Shangri-La or Jupiter Dreadnaught

morrow#1528 morrow Member Posts: 39 Arc User
I think we need to discuss the future of this game and it's content such as it's old ships. Before the Jupiter Class Carrier was introduced into the game there was the Jupiter Dreadnaught which is currently used as a NPC in the Jenolan Dyson Sphere floating around in circles like vultures not in any combat, it's like someone just put them out of the way for others to see them. Will it be possible to bring them back but better in design like what they have done to the Typhoon and the other ships.

Now as for the Shangri-La Class Light Cruiser I think its best to have this in the game as well as a rare ships like the Kobayashi Maru which isn't in the Lobi or Infinity ship category. I know they model the Titan / Enterprise G after the Shangri-La as a Constitution III which is a next gen variant of the Shangri-La Class, same design, bigger scale and 25th Century Tech. But what if we had the original Shangri-La Class are a very rare ship that can be rewarded in events like the Christmas and Summer events.

Its best to say we do love the command ships of their Origin from the Constitution, Excelsior, Ambassador and the Galaxy but I think the other ships deserve more.

I don't think we're getting the Jupiter Dreadnought because it was outright replaced with the Jupiter Carrier.

As for the Shangri-La, I would welcome more TMP era designs. And since the Shangri-La was backdoor canonized in Picard s3 with the gold model of the original USS Titan being a Shangri-La class...

Ah, but the Typhoon was officially replaced with the Command Battlecruisers, yet the Typhoon has made its triumphant return nonetheless. So, the Jupiter Dreadnaught could make a return as well. Personally, I'd love to see it.

But the command battlecruisers weren't called Typhoon, where as the Jupiter carrier was intended as a direct replacement to the Jupiter dreadnought

The Typhoon had its charms, the old Jupiter not so much

Unless they're willing to do a full remaster, they would probably find it easier to replace the Jupiter DN in the Jenolan Sphere with something that has up to date graphics. Like maybe the newly remastered Jupiter carrier?

No, they weren't called Typhoon, but they did say, at the time, that they were officially replacing the Typhoon. Though the Jupiter carrier has the same name, it was never explicitly said to have replaced the Jupiter Dreanaught, which could acquire a new class name, if it were remastered.

That is similar to the Excalibur classes. Both share a name, but they are totally different ships. In their case the original one, which was nicknamed "the sitting dog" (it is only seen for a few seconds in the initial cutscene for the second Dyson sphere) because of its unusual use of a curved and almost vertical secondary hull instead of a traditional neck, is actually the better looking of the two (the playable Excalibur is a rather generic variant of the Constitution Refit).

It would be nice if the Devs eventually brought out playable versions of both the Jupiter dread and the "sitting dog" Excalibur, they both show valid Federation style without being just another slightly modified kitbash of the Enterprise.

In the case of the Jupiters, it would even add more depth to the design lore to have the two sharing some parts the same way so many other Fed ships do, and some people might even buy both if, in addition to the visual sharing, the remastered dread could kitbash with the carrier.

For the Jupiter, I'd rather have some of the losing designs from the 2015 contest. Alpha being an obvious choice, but I'm fond of Gamma and Delta as well.

Well... we do still have the T3 ships to get remastered after they finish with the T2s, so in theory they could revisit some of those for inspiration for the T3 Cruiser revamps.
