I honestly don't know what the problem could be. I do know there's been almost hilarious amounts of rubberbanding, lag, framerate drops and slowdowns (although not constantly). I'd be surprised if it has something to do with the temporal recruit event, due to the fact my own temporal recruit is progressing smoothly, and if there ever is a problem, I'm one of the first people to encounter it (due to being a "Murphy's Law magnet" LOL).

Nothing to worry about. Every so often they do back end maintenance for all games. Login server etc and sometimes they incorporate a game patch too. This is normal pure and simple.
The client itself has a notice stating there's going to be extensive maintenance performed (hence the rather long downtime). I'm clueless as to what exactly the downtime is even for, as the only thing I've noticed is the usual lag due to the increased player load because of the summer event (and temporal recruit event). Honestly, you'd think a scheduled downtime, especially of this length, would be mentioned on X, Facebook and Reddit.

Personally, I think the client is a good place for such notices, and I would be happier if they mentioned it here in the forums and the supposedly "news" page of the STO website rather than relying so much on third party social sites.

This is normal. Every few months they do back end maintenance across all games to ensure everything is running as smoothly as they would hope. They replenish the food and water for the hamsters running the servers that sort of thing and on occasions toss in a patch for the game. But this is mostly back end stuff. But I do agree with you on it not being mentioned on social media, they have been very lack lustre of late in posting key stuff in a timely manner.
True, but having those third-party social media platforms as additional sounding boards is beneficial. Not everyone visits these forums or looks for the news on playstartrekonline.com.

Agreed. You won't be getting any argument from me on that. I remember the days when you could go to X (or twitter as it was back then) or FB and all the news or info you needed relating to certain things (patch notes, blog, updates on certain things that may have gone awry) all the info was there. But it seems now we are being left out of the loop so to speak. Of late we have had things posted on social media late or not at all. Of late we have been going weeks without patch notes for both PC and Console but when we do get the info I do have to say @baddmoonrizin is the bees knees at getting said info posted on here. For a volunteer moderator she definitely goes above and beyond for the community on a daily basis. She should be so so proud of everything she does.
kinda surprised they are doing such a long maintenance during the summer event. is something terribly wrong with the recruiting event?
This extended maintenance, as other's have mentioned, is to be expected and normal. They do this about 4 times a year and is physical maintenance on top of the usual.
The only time to get conspiratorial about what is going on is if it's an emergency maintenance
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
I do hope they fix that bug where your ground captain ends up in space as your ship . It was happening alot as of late.
"There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life." - Ten Bears (Will Sampson)

And with zero notice. I had been online earlier in the day and the client did not have any warning less than 24 hours before this sudden shutdown. We honestly ought to get an extra day on the events because of this.
I believe this maintenance will address one issue some people were having with the new Terraforming Kit Frame, which would lose all its combo buffs if you actually attempted to get five elemental Risian kit modules (it would stack up to four, but the fifth would cancel all buffs and reset you to as if you only had one kit). I personally was not a fan of the new Terraforming Kit Frame, but I might try at least one of the new kit modules--hey, everyone wants to be Thor, so gimme MORE LIGHTNING! LOL
I just read the patch notes, and sadly, the bug involving the new Terraforming Kit Frame was not mentioned. I would suggest getting last year's kit frame or maybe the Vulcanology/Cryogenics ones, due to them having been proven to still work. I don't have nearly as much hope now of the Terraforming Kit Frame being fixed in this latest patch. There's still a chance (they may have forgotten to mention it), and yes, that's happened before--they fixed something but forgot to mention it; can't expect them to list every single thing that each patch fixes, some are rather esoteric and under-the-hood, and hardly any players will even notice (as they didn't even notice what went wrong in the first place).
