Game is Super Laggy Without Fail Every Evening UTC+8

Hey Cryptic,

I am a Lifetime Subscriber of Star Trek Online for years now and I look forward to playing the game almost every evening after a day of work.

These few weeks however, it seems your servers are constantly lagging so badly that I cannot even play the game. One or more of the following problems keep occurring:
  1. There are times the game loads into the character section screen but fails to load my selected character.
  2. Seriously horrendous rubber banding till the point where it is impossible to move my character or starship.

I can't even play your new Dailies in your new "Delete Alt Ctrl" Event.

For example, I just came back from work this evening and logged into the game at 1430hrs UTC and I could not even contribute to the rest of the team for the Red Alert. I was seriously thinking of doing the Daily too in the TFO: Guillotine but I gave up. I really do not know if I will be able to complete it and earn the rewards before the Event ends.

FYI, this extreme lag is not there in the daytime.

Please look into this!!!

Thanks.

Have you run a tracenet. Have you restarted your router. The problem may lie with your internet provider. Other factors might include other users around you locally being on the same router channel so might be worth running a scan to see how many other internet users are using the same channel as you. Might want to do a DNS flush to see if that helps improve things. Admittedly there has been lag issues with the game in the past but they have or are doing things to improve things, however try to see if it is something you can do your end. From what you say that the lag isn't there during the day it could be due to too much traffic your end during your peak times.

Yup. Tried all that and the lag is still there.

At this point, it is either the ISP or really Star Trek Online.

I can't seeing it being the game, if so there would be tons of other posts. Not that the game has had such issues in the past, but cryptic have done alot to resolve issues in relation to lag and rubber banding. Have you reset your router that is another thing you can try. Might be worth contacting your isp too and explain the situation and see if there are tests they can do to test your connection. Another thing ... Are there others in your home using the internet at the same time as you are trying to play. Do you have your phone connected if so try disabling that and see if there is an improvement. One of the mods @darkbladejk can also advice you. As you can see I've pinged them in.

Well, I think I will join in here too. Although I already did so in the other thread :P .

I also have the problem with horrible lag, because of a bad routing to the STO game servers. Here is a tracert I just did a few moments ago.

    Routenverfolgung zu patchserver.crypticstudios.com [208.95.184.200]

As you can see, the problem starts right at the *Boston1.level3.net* hop!!!

I have seen these spikes happening at that specific hop for at least the past 4 month :rage::angry: !!!

It would be really great if someone with enough influence would do something about this mess. As it stands, the game is with this sort of connection nearly unplayable. And although I do have a LTA, I am still a customer who wants the company he is a customer of to provide a reasonable service!!!

    Hello Everyone :sunglasses:

I was just going to open up a thread about the horrible problems I have since a week with the connection to the STO-Server(s) and the resulting lag coming from it. But now look at that :astonished: . I am not the only one and there are already at least 2 or 3 threads about it!!!

So, let me join in, too.

Blame can not solely be placed with the game. Admittedly yes there has been issues in the past and they have done remarkable in relieving the lag, rubber banding connectivity issues some players have had. With that said not all issues stem from the games side, players may have issues with their ISP, routers etc. So if you do encounter an issue clear your cache, flush your dns restart your router, if you are connecting wirelessly too much traffic may be on the channel you are on. There are programs you can run to see how many people are on the same channel as you locally so you can switch to a channel that has less users. Always try to connect using an ethernet. No the game is not perfect, but nor is the internet or network providers. Doing a fresh install of the game may also help alleviate connectivity issues. This seems to be happening to only a handful of players and not widespread, so from my perspective issues seem to be at the players end and not the game. I am sure @darkbladejk could give better insight and other players may be able to suggest other things to do to help with connection issues.

While you are correct that it is often a problem on the user site as well, and going through the motions needn't hurt, I don't think that any of that is the case here. For me the game is also almost unplayable, TFOs are absolutely unplayable (I will not get control over my toon or my ship until e. g. a whole red alert has already passed), so will probably be the summer event, while no other game I play has comparable problems. And I have a wired connection, restarted everything and so forth as well.

However, there seems to be a common thread here: everybody posting here (including me) seems to come from Germany. So there might be a connectivity problem when data is put through a certain route - which at least at first would be neither the players' nor the game's fault. Unfortunately, since that means there may be no easy fix.

Risa has been exceptionally laggy since the event went online.
For the last few days I have been on risa and it has not been laggy at all till today.

Since I changed to the EU proxy connection I am getting from time to time a new message, in combination with getting kicked from the server:

*Too many attempts; please try again later.*

The only thing I am doing is playing normally and logging from time to time from one char to another one. Okay, now during the Risa-Event I am logging through 5-6 chars, during the Horgan Hunt. BUT, I never ever had this happening to me before and I did log through 5-6 chars during Horgan Hunts, during all Risa-Events in the past!!!
