So when the current Tholian event ends, we hit April 4th, so nicely in time for First Contact Day, April 5th. However apart from an announcement of a bonus marks thing, there's no upcoming event details. Are we having a gap? Or are even posts and such getting caught up in the Cryptic to DECA transition?

They rarely give an 'early' update details because people will complain if it then doesn't arrive on time or as expected. It is normal to get details 24 hours beforehand.

Well, we're within the 24 hours beforehand, at least for what would normally be the start date for First Contact Day, and it's still crickets. Got a single patch note, and that's it. Cryptic is being unusually, well, cryptic this time.

I am starting to think that the First Contact Day Event is next week so that it hits PC, PS4/5, and Xbox One. Either we are having a filler event or a break. Since there was only one patch note tomorrow unless they add to it.

Tagging you too as you also mentioned the 24 hour thing. That isn't normally the case and we've had no announcement of anything.
If we haven't heard anything about a major event, I imagine its probably going to be another Red Alert coming up. We usually have those as buffers between major events.
And now we have a sudden Red Alert event, with zero notice. And still nothing about the First Contact Day event. Is everything okay at Cryptic right now? Because even for them, this is a baffling lack of communication.
There have been a lot of bugs lately, so maybe they are delaying First Contact for a last-minute check and bug lockdown before they spin that older event code up to avoid another mass bug infestation this time.
I miss the days when we had a reliable calendar that would show you upcoming events. Neverwinter still uses one, I really don't see how Cryptic couldn't keep the one we had.
First Contact Day is tomorrow. Are we not having the ship launching event or something for it, this year? I thought that was the original point of the model ship building queue, literally labeled "First Contact Day Event" in the TFOs? No time to think up a prize or something? Just give an epic phoenix token or two if not.
Change in leadership/companies, or something else causing that to be cancelled this year?

Its happening. Just got a week of Red Alert before that. So I'd estimate next Tuesday we're getting First Contact Event.

We usually have a Red Alert between events, kinda like a buffer or if players want to see it as such, a break.
It kinda stems from a time when we didn't have constant events and players complained about having nothing to do. So we got more events to fill in the empty spaces between seasonals.
Admittedly it can be a bit of a grind, but STO doesn't have the wide options of much larger games like FF14 that has side quests and stuff that players can do between Main Scenario Quests and the seasonals.
Do what you can with what you got, ya know?

I don't think this is normal, though. Leaving aside the fact that they've never delayed First Contact Day like this before, they also haven't said a word about this Red Alert through any official--or, as far as I can tell, unofficial--channels. It just popped up in-game with no comment anywhere. I've long thought Cryptic was a bit too fond of living up to their name, but this is very unusual even for them.
I mean, I get that something probably happened behind the scenes, but some communication on the matter would be nice.

From what was said back when they first took it down, it was actually part of the remote collaboration software they didn't really need when everyone worked in the same office but which they had to return to its original purpose when COVID measures came into play and everyone who could worked at home. Apparently, there was no reliable way to have it automatically generate two separate calendars, the one to keep all the devs in sync remotely and a limited version for players that did not contain unintended spoilers.
Also, I doubt it would have helped this time because the sudden delay feels more like something went wrong somewhere and they need extra time to hammer the kinks out, and that calendar never reflected last minute changes when they had it (which caused quite a howl in this forum every time it happened).

I like your optimism, but bug checking and fixing isn't their current strong suit.

well, it's april 4, looks like a red alert? is first contact pushed or just tomorrow?
To avoid overlaping events, we usually have a buffer in the form of a Red Alert Event.
Based on in game evidence, I'm predicting next Tuesday is when FC Day event will start.

It was delayed last year too so it could launch on all the platforms.

Far as I am aware the changeover is going to take a year or two.
Pretty much this.
Well to give an example, the current Tholian event, which started 13th March, was announced via blog post on 8th March - https://playstartrekonline.com/en/news/article/11565413
https://playstartrekonline.com/en/news/article/11564663 - Red alert posted 1st March for start 7th March
https://playstartrekonline.com/en/news/article/11563353 - Pahvo event announced 8th Feb, started 15th Feb
And so on and so forth.
We are also within 24 hours and nothing except for a single patch note.
