Will STO ever make the Valkyrie Stealth fighter a flyable craft in-game?

toddjohnson100toddjohnson100 Member Posts: 138 Arc User
I absolutely LOVE the design of the Valkyrie Stealth Fighter. It looks so much better than the boxy Peregrine and I for one would be willing to pay top ZEN for a flyable model in-game. Is that on anyone else's wish list? Put the Stealth Fighter Space set on one of those and that would be my dream small craft. Hope they'll put that in game and not just as a hangar pet !!

Cryptic has pretty much abandoned small craft content, with TFO events retired and no new episode content in many years. So it seems unlikely. It's a shame, the shuttle events were fun.

Agreed, Cryptic pretty much said shuttle events weren't popular enough to justify keeping them. Think it was last year this was decided.

I miss Shuttle Fleet Alert. That one was fun. The organized chaos of 20 players in shuttles swarming things. It was probably one of the only 20 man queues to be popular. At least in my experience.

I'd love a playable Valkyrie, and even a playable Kodai.

Personally I wish they would've just left the shuttle event TFOs in the game full time and let people goof about with them vs potentially retiring them outright. Shuttle content could be fun it just needs/needed a bit more polish imo. It's a shame that if it's not a select handful of TFOs used for so called meta chasing certain content never pops or gets used in this game, but I digress.

It's a weird way how STO evolved, it has the trinity but ignores it
Judging ones DPS in a MMORPG is always being tested in new challenging content, but in STO it's always judged by the easiest spam happy aoe map

I'm hoping STO makes this little gem more readily available:
    https://sto.fandom.com/wiki/Andorian_Kumari_Light_Escort
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I loved that one so much. It was the most mental TFO they ever made, and so simple. Didn't the star base have weapons too!? It boggles my mind why SB1 doesn't have anything to fire!

Far as I remember it doesn't. And since it randomly picks a Fleet Starbase from those participating, you could get everything from a fully maxed out T5 Starbase to a brand new, still under construction not even T1.

It makes perfect sense why Starbase 1 or ESD have no weapons on them, they're at heart of the Federation and no warp drive equipped enemy will be able to get to those without having to battle fleets or bases built for defense while SB1 or ESD are more for monitoring and controlling traffic and to act as logistics bases.

    • Starbase 1 has been attacked in the 2250s by the Klingons.
    • ESD was attacked at least 3 times in STO.
    • The station's Defense Grid was mentioned at least once in STO. My understanding of Defense Grid doesn't mean just shields, otherwise why not refer to the shields specifically?
    • Earth was attacked directly by the Breen in the Dominion War.

Frankly it shouldn't matter if the station is in the heart of the Federation or not. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Besides ESD and Starbase 1 are both basically fortresses and one of the last lines of defense. They SHOULD be armed to the teeth. I mean look at how much fire Probert Station took in the finale of Picard. Tanked everything for quite a while.

All of those are good arguments but we got remember that UFP is very heavily against having an obvious military force which is why Starfleet is officially an exploration organization first and foremost even though they got the military power to defend the Federation. By same token arming stations so close to the heart of the Federation suggests building up a military something UFP dislikes doing if it isn't an absolute must.

Still, weapons on those orbital stations could be spun as asteroid or other debris defense, anti-piracy measures, and all sorts of other tool uses the same way they are spun on starships, and why (according to a surprisingly funny talk Roddenberry used to do at conventions and such) the Constitution class was called a "heavy cruiser" instead of a battlecruiser or battleship.

The only reason not to arm those stations would be the government trying to allay citizen's fears that they would turn them on the populus, and the Federation has too good of a reputation and the people trust it too much for that to be a problem.

I miss that shuttle TFO a lot. It would be nice to have it back, even as an endeavour only. I'd take that over Gravity Kills and the darned Doomsday Machine one anyday. And I too would pay zen for a Viper (I mean Valkyrie ;))

However nobody in Star Trek ever made a secret out of the heavy weaponry the starships fielded. Yes, they always tried to say it's a defensive reason, which is true, however I don't doubt ESD is heavily armed and they don't have to tell tales about it. It is the planet's last (only?) defense after all.

I'm pretty sure that in STO ESD and the fleet starbases used to take shots at enemies. I don't know whether they were "real" or just vfx, but I do think leemwatson is right. I definitely remember that.
