When I try to log in via steam (and before you ask shorts to bypass this won't work) I get this message "Unable to authenticate:exceed timeout while waiting for steam login ticket"
I woke up to the same issue as well, my Steam is logged in, I do in fact have internet connection. "unable to authenticate: Exceeded timeout while waiting for steam login ticket". Literally after hitting the "PLAY" button.
"I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, and reminds us to cherish every moment... because they'll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we lived" Picard to Riker
I am also having this issue,i can start the launcher directly but since i signed up via steam i have no idea what email and password to access my account.
It's still having the same issue. I did what others have done and opened the launcher directly, signed in with my username and password and was able to get on.
I too have the same problem just like one of my fleet members so it is definitely not a local problem I live in Sweden and my fleet member lives in Norway.

Well at least not local within your country, it doesn't mean it isn't an EU or Nordic wide issue, though I suppose it depends on the people having the issue or more correctly their locations.
The workaround works (oh and the password is the same you logged into this Forum so if you can remember that you're fine).

I know for a fact USA members are also impacted, so it's not limited to European clients.
Star Trek Online is providing a Bad Customer Experience. I wish they would take us Users into account before they start messing with files without properly testing changes on their Test Servers. I have been a Platform Engineer for the past 20 years, and If the STO Teams says they tested these changes on their servers, and it worked on test server but not in the production server upon release. That means their test server programing and production servers are not the same. Just Saying.

Only Steam users are affected. It might be an issue on Steam's end. If that is the case then Cryptic has no control over that. Also, remember it is the weekend, most are probably not working right now.
the problem with lunching sto exe with out steam is i have money on my steam wallet but cant use it to get zen if i dont log in through steam as there is no option

This doesn't appear to be a Star Trek Online problem. It seems to be a Steam problem.

It's a Steam issue, not Cryptic issue and their test server cannot replicate the interactions of the live server. They ALWAYS test their patches on not one, but two test servers, but if you are an actual platform engineer, you would know and understand why bugs can and will happen, and that they cannot 'test' them on the live server.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
