A CHEAT is a cheat NO matter what you call it.

There is an unfair advantage to those who have it as opposed to those who don't. Like others said. ALL similar cheats/hacks should not be allowed in PVE or either events like Winter event, Summer or any queues.

What makes it a cheat is that is not available at the same for anyone else to have it at the same time. For instance frost boots are available to anyone during winter event so it should be used for winter event times. So follows the sufrboard with speedboost that are available during summer event time for all.

The cat's boost is out of sequence with winter/summer event and should only be allowed in ESD or during halloween events.
Only allowed it on social places not on PVE races or where a competition comes out.

Just my 2 cents on the matter.

While I wouldn't call it a "cheat", per se, I do generally agree with this.

Leave the charm out of the winter event. Or maybe allow me to use my floater to fly above the ice as I race.
To me it's the same principle.

Let people earn and use winter items in the winter event and that is it.
Let people earn and use summer items in the summer event and that's it.

So while I have no problem if someone wants to look like a cat on the winter event map, once they actually join an event the effect should end.

If it will help, here's a list of the speed-boosting things I know about (no doubt there are more) other than the cat

For the "Fast & Flurrious" PVP race, there are some things make you go faster -

    1) Traits from Terran rep (tier 1, Close Quarters Combatant), and Delta rep (tier 1, Physical Conditioning)
    2) Counter-Command rep armor (+25% runspeed for 3 seconds after performing a roll)
    3) [run] mod on ground weapons
    4) The Command Specialisation, (not Commando), Tier 1, top of the left tree, Forward March
    5) Delta Alliance Elite ground set (two-piece bonus +5% Run Speed)
    6) Maquis Guile ground trait
    7) Burnham's CQC armor +10%
    8) "research lab make sure to have combat boost activated"

The first seven I can personally attest to, but #8 is hearsay, and I don't know what it means.

While I'm posting, I have three comments-
A ) This event is sponsored by Q. Why would anyone expect it to be fair?
B ) The actual running is only half the event. The other half is grabbing the flags, which is a whole 'nother ballgame. This also applies to both the surfboard race and the Biathlon at the Summer Risa event.
C ) It is a crying shame that some folks have to get all hot and angry over what is supposed to be a fun holiday event. Why have we become so unkind to each other? Especially at Christmas. You know, peace on Earth, goodwill to men*.

    *obviously, women also.

A couple of other armor sets that give a run boost are the Coalition Repulsor Armor and the Imperial Assault Armor both give +10% and both were event rewards.

    11) Black Alert Tribble: +2% run speed
    12) Mycelium Tribble: +3% run speed, +100% Bonus movement speed ( did not know this even existed till I looked up black alert one on wiki)

It seems currently you can't breed the Mycelium Tribble only the Mycelial Tribble which gives +3% run speed and +5% Maximum Hit Points.

Another speed tribble is the Terran Fortune Tribble which gives +5% Run Speed.

has anyone tried a cat on a powerboard on Risa? May as well get a head of things

That would be funny as hell to see.

Yes, it is a sight to behold. Using a floater while in cat form is even funnier.

I don't understand why they don't just reskin the powerboard from Risa into a sled so everyone is always on the same playing field and all the perks and "cheats" don't matter. All the in game mechanics is already in place, should be a trivial thing to add and more reliable than trying to band aid all the speed bonuses and stop a lot of a whining (not all, thats not possible).

Leave the cat charm/traits/frosted boots etc for the solo race and moving around the map easier.

Well said, to quote Q from the TNG-episode Hide and Q: "Fairness is such a human concept. Think imaginatively! This game shall in fact be completely unfair."

I have bred plenty of Mycelium Tribbles this winter. Make sure you have no Cannibal Tribbles in your inventory.

Using something you have obtained through time or money is not a cheat. If you take part in a race in real life, the quality of your training and performance is based upon the time and money you have invested, this virtual race is no different.

If there are players that have not put in the time to complete the events, breed tribbles, acquire the gear through the rep systems, crafting system or even buy it off the exchange, then that is a problem for that player only.

The race is PvP and everything has been obtainable in the game if the player was willing to put the time and effort to get them.

Plus, even with all the speed boosts, something as simple as a slight delay in a turn, or turning too much or too little lead to a delay, getting stuck on an obstacle, or can get you disqualified.

If the issue is about the ability to obtain Epohh Tags, then one or two tags can be added to the rewards of the PvE race. But all run boosts should be allowed in the PvP race.

Not one single person has put forth a rational argument as to why speed boosts should be allowed. No wonder, because it's a no brainer - in a competition based on speed, anything that grants a direct bonus to speed that is in any way exclusive is, by definition, an unfair advantage.

If you really can't be bothered to remove an obvious unfair advantage, then the alternative would be to either raise rewards for slower finishes or nerf rewards for placing, the former obviously being the ideal. This way you eliminate any pretense that it's supposed to be a fair competition and is really more of an amusement, and suddenly speed boosts don't matter. Frankly it would be more in line with the attitude of QWW to do this than it would be to try to make the race fair, tbh.
