It was never that big a problem for me, tbh. But relatively recent additions changed that. On the ground, the lightning effect of the recent set and in space especially the pink jellyfish are a real distraction.
And yes, in general it's definitely too much visual spam going on, even just my own effects are annoying for me, so that I stopped using certain abilities due to it.
I have no idea how to sort of dull it down altogether, but I'd like to at least have the ability to turn off visual effects coming from other players.
Seriously, I just sigh loudly, whenever I see someone is using that stupid pink jellyfish.
And to be honest, I do have to question why in a game ALREADY overloaded with VFX the devs decided to add several real distracting ones as rewards in the last year or so.
That seems contra productive, regarding an already existing issue.

because thier "market research" told them Moar VFX. Kinda like Dr Wu talking to Maserati in Jurassic World
Yes Please do away with all this...you do not see this kind of thing in the shows or movies. And on the same note can you please disable consoles/abilities etc in public places like Sol space, Nimbus space etc.
what of the issue with the flickering black boxes that devour half the screen when there is an explosion when the bloom is on i get that turning the bloom off is a work around but i was just curious
The black boxes are a new bug since the new explosions were implemented. It seems to happen with certain cards like Nividia. And Kael once said Cryptic was unable to reproduce it. I have been playing with lightning 2.0 off and it solves the problem for me. But I wish they would fix that too.
I haven't posted on the forums in a very, very long time, but this is an issue that needs to be addressed! This takes away from the games playability, especially in group play! I have recently returned to the game, and I can't recall the FX spam being this bad. This has even stopped a couple friends (who I'm trying to talk into coming back to the game) from playing. The effects can vary depending on who you are grouped with, but some of the ship effects screen bloom is so bad, I completely lose situational awareness of what's going on. This is not something that makes me want to continue playing this game. Visual effects can be appealing and adds to games, but if given the choice of having it as it is now or just turning all effects off, I would choose turning it all off.

Good to know. I’m glad we can talk about it again then. I have been afraid to try it. Thanks to badmoon for the clarification! And thanks to mattjohnsonva (wherever you are) and everyone for their great ingenuity in creating the Vertigo system.

I'm in that fleet, that's how I knew about it, most of the guys are using it and apparently Jesse the Dev said it was fine to use. I'll pass on your thanks to Matt.

You sure you posted in the right place as screenshot from previous version of the game (possibly Alpha/Beta version) has nothing to do with VFX of the current version of the game.
Folks, be careful when quoting other's posts. You never know what you might be getting yourself into. Thanks.

I am also curious to hear what the team thinks should be done to address the issue. I am hoping that they come up with a system in settings that will allow the player to turn off/on what visual effects, and the corresponding sound effects, they want to be rendered/heard. It's so immersion and fun breaking when you fly a little escort in close proximity to the enemy, keeping the tight arc of cannon weapons on target, and you can't tell where your pointed, if you've flow past, hit an obstacle, and the sound in your headphones is obnoxiously loud.
Being that's the first I've seen of it - and someone would've mentioned it by now if it were older - I'd say that's one of the new bundle consoles or traits. No idea which, though, since I haven't tried any of them.

if it's new then it's clear to me the Devs don't give a TRIBBLE about the players concern over the vfx. I'm guilty, I like space magic as "easy mode". I guess tyo do my part I'll back everything down to phasers and quantum torpedos

This came up in yesterday’s livestream as “being worked on.” So I think the fix is still going to be a significant amount of time.
I like my tank carrier hybrid with stacking Lukari rep Piezo-Polaron for big self-heals, but playing it is obnoxious due to the visual + audible clutter, hearing the "dmm" sound each time the whole ship is encapsulated by a massive, green sphere, that blocks vision when not playing with the camera zoomed out to its maximum.

Wow, and for the past year or so, I thought all the problems I've been having running STO on my laptop was because it's not powerful enough. Now I know that's only a small part of the problem.
So there is SRS' Vertigo now, to nullify most of this stuff, and I'm super happy for it - I fire a whole bunch of binds every time I fire up the game, so satisfying. However, there are *way* more effects that I personally would like to turn off; 'transported torpedo' that constantly counts down on my ship and what have you. Is there any sort of list that could be published will all buffs and effects, so I can manually bind a disable for them?
Im going to end up having a stroke from the sheer amount on my screen.
I dont know what issue cryptic is having isolating this issue, but I know in FF14, its basically a toggle, that disables/mutes other peoples effects and keeps your own.

It's not. I've asked about it.

And that's not mentioning the sounds this new party popper makes.
Also, the VFX seems to get worse the further you are from the bolts.
