QOL And Cosmetic Things We Need In This Game!

magusshadowmoonmagusshadowmoon Member Posts: 24 Arc User
Feel free to add any that you think I miss.

1. Vanity Weapons (yes I know in the FAQ) But for this I would pay even if it was a per ship token or some such!!!

2. Make all ship traits for ships I own account unlocks!!! Having to grind out all my ships on all my toons is getting old. My KDF and RRW toons do not want to fly FED ships just to unlock a trait.

3.Full tailor locks...Colors, costumes, bodies. And there are things like tails for aliens. Would pay for this even if it was a per toon token!!!

    - Infinite skill retraining. When my toon is all caught up and I'm just running RTFOs I'm usually experimenting with a gimmick or maybe I want to tailor my skills better around the ship I want to play. I have a couple old old characters that through the years have just spent up all the freebies so they are frozen in time with that one ship I spec'd them for. I'm not interested in spending this or that currency to buy more. Why not let me enjoy the game in different ways without constantly reminding me that I have to pay for everything. Even if it's just a Lifer thing. I've done it all by now and it will get stale if I can't change things up every once in a while. Yes I have a bunch of toons so it's not a great big deal right now, but that shadow looms over all my toons. Should be an end-game thing if you ask me.

    - Unifying the color palette for uniforms would be nice. When I get wrapped up in space barbie, I'd like to mix and match uniform pieces I've collected, but many times the reds don't match, the blues don't match, etc, and I just end up going with black and white - and even those look different between pieces. And please fix all the clipping issues. I want to look fashionable whilst scanning unknown tachyon particles and facepalming enemies, for Jim's sake.

    - More varied pewpew sounds. I understand phasers sounding like phasers, but I love all the unique sounding weapons in the game and would like more of that. Or maybe an option to select the sound it makes? Like modifying a tuner car.

    - Instead of pumping out "The Next Big Ship" all the time, how about designing more pieces to use for all ships when customizing them? Maybe add custom lighting or something to spruce up that feature. I love customizing my ships.

Keep in mind if it wasn't for the QOL change in 2021 that allowed your KDF or RRW characters to fly those ships, you wouldn't have those traits. "Grinding" for a hour or so at Argala seems like a pretty good tradeoff.

Not even an hour. Depending on DPS output it is possible to fully level a ship in 2-3 patrols. Two of which have spawnning waves for a duration.
My usual rotation for leveling a ship is Rescue and Search, Ninth Rule, and Wanted.

Not only is it good for leveling, but Ninth Rule also gives you a feel for different enemy groups as well since they're randomized in that one.

You can get over a dozen skill respecs from the Reputation Lvl 6 projects, per character.....and it doesn't cost you nothing but marks.

There is no 'one size' fits all for ships. The parts, and ships are scaled individually, and it would be a huuuuuuuge project to replicate each part at a specific size over a few hundred times! The benefit of the way they do it means we'll not see any silly 'out of proportion' looking custom ships.

I on the other hand do not want that to be replaced. Instead for those who want it, auto-loot like what those on consoles have or a toggle for your option. Also, I just pick up loot, I am not sure how the icon could be more immersive. Adding the functionality of being able to move loot windows would help people though.

There already is custom lighting in the ship customizer or are you referring to something else?

I mean like trick out the lights on the ship in some way. I don't know, maybe they flash different ways or in different colors.

And on the ship customization, I don't mean make a part that fits every ship. I mean take a ship class and add a new saucer or new pylons or something. A new costume for that class so to speak. Doubt that's a huge undertaking. Instead of Next Big Ship, maybe jazz up an older ship in the catalogue for use in the customizer.

    Forgot one..

Ground loadouts.....and the to be able to change Specs on the fly out of combat. With random TFO and mission with both space and ground it would be nice to beable to adjust to the mission at hand. i.e. You are spec out for space and ground TFO pops being able to change to ground based specs like Commando would be great.

They do that already when they put out a new ship of that line. Just look at all the Miranda variants we have now, including the new Bozeman parts.

They tried just selling parts in the past without a new ship. Just like bridges it didn't do very well, and those parts that were being sold were rolled into fleet ships as cosmetic unlocks for getting the fleet variant. May have been on a per character basis with that, but still...

If you're gonna put out just parts... why not just make a new ship that comes with those parts?

A big part of why bridges/interiors do not sell well is that they are not universal so there is no guarantee that they will fit in a particular ship you want to use them in, so even though they cost as much as a T5 ship they could be a complete waste of money, so people tend to give them a low priority. Making it so that any purchased bridge is available to any ship the player has would go a long way to making bridges sell better.

While on the subject of bridges, a great QoL for the ships that wear other ships as skins would be the ability to choose which of combo ship's bridge to use, the 23rd century one or the "future" one. For instance, I use the Ranger/Paladin combo on quite a few characters and on most of them I would prefer the 23rd century bridge instead of that weird, totally impractical thing the Paladin comes with.

Getting rid of the nag button (which wants the player to go back and do the extremely annoying Dyson grind missions first) when killing Voth ships in the Dyson contested zone for the endeavor would be good. Characters advance to endgame so quickly (especially with all the events one after the other) that they usually hit endgame way before getting to the Dyson missions in the normal course of things (and get there via the reputation transwarp), so having to move the interaction window out of the center of the screen while there works but it is annoying having to do it all the time then move it back when leaving.

There really needs to be a way to translate mail, especially fleet mail, without manually retyping it into google translate. Having them 'copy but not change' would work for that without having to code some kind of in-house translation access and have the additional benefit of being able to copy the slash command to join a new ingame channel as well as the address strings for Discord channels instead of having to retype them letter-perfect.

Having some way of searching the banks and inventories of all of a player's characters on their account would be very handy (one of the most popular ESO addons does that, and it is extremely useful). A corollary to that which would also be handy would be some way of exporting a sort of character sheet for characters that shows their space and ground build along with the character background.

Unlocking off-duty and the other tabs in the tailor for boffs so that the captain and crew can actually wear the same uniform most of the time (unless you just go with the default it turns out to be that mismatch more often than not nowadays).

Of course, the biggest QoL improvement of all isn't an easy fix apparently, and that is fixing the problems that cause so many players to get dumped to the login screen at nearly every map change. Personally, I do far fewer missions because of that problem than I would do otherwise because it is so irritating getting dumped at least two or three times or more as the mission goes from map to map, and from what I have heard in chat I am not alone in that reluctance to do missions with that problem still happening.

The only QOL-change I really care about nowadays is a change that would allow us to play the game without being bothered by item pick-up interactions or one of their consequences (the need to get rid of all the useless garbage) at all.

    Ideas:

    - An option to render the loot on the map itself (the weird white/green/blue etc. crates) invisible
    - An option to render the need/greed/pass thingies invisible
    - An option to remove the 'take items' interaction buttons from my screen (as I noticed elsewhere, during some parts of missions like in Counterpoint they are very, very annoying)
    - An auto-discard option for loot below a certain MK/rarity, with that boundary being customisable by the player

When I'm playing the game, I want to play. I don't want to be constantly harassed by all these useless things or - when I do want to pick up loot - to be forced to stop playing every hour to become an inventory manager instead of a Starfleet captain.

Loot spam and inventory management are - by far - the things I get most annoyed about during longer play sessions.

Other than that, I wouldn't mind seeing options to customise weapons indeed.
Or at least a way to disable the odd weapon colour that comes with unique gear that have single-equip restrictions (Nausicaan disruptor beam, Gamma rep beam, Quantum phase beam, etc).

Removal of transwarp cooldowns and/or access to bank and mail in more places are another thing I'd like to see. Players should either be able to immediately go to places where they can manage stuff - or they should be able to manage stuff wherever they are.
If playing the game should be promoted, then reducing the number of times players have to stop doing that to visit a hub is a logical thing to do.

Somewhat related to that: allow us to use gear from our bank or other ships directly. Last year, I was in Winter Wonderland and I clicked a weapon slot. I didn't see WW weapons, so I bought one, wasting resources on an additional weapon that I'll never use. Cause later on, it turned out there was a weapon in my bank, but for some reason only things in our inventories are shown for quick equip whenever you're a bit farther away from a bank console.

Lastly: change bound-to-character to bound-to-account for things like fleet gear. I have toons with - for example - both Polaron and Phaser spire tactical console sets. Simply because I didn't know, years in advance, that I would someday prefer to switch from Polaron weapons to Phasers. I'm sure that many players who've been here for a while have collected stuff that will never be used again, while their other toons could make use of that gear but can't obtain it from them.

    Removal of transwarp cooldowns

It's possible to do this now, by starting a mission, transwarping to it, then dropping a mission (Jabberwocky to get to DS9 for instance).

I'd be in favour of dropping transwarp cooldowns for this reason as well.

Something i would really like is an autoplay option for content in which one is forced into another setup/character once that mission is completed on a single character.

The forced character switch/terran gameplay without having the option to vary play style between characters drained my will to play the new episodes on new characters.

The mission themselves are decent enough, but having to go through exactly the same route/game play several times is detrimental to motivating players to play the new story content.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Some way to translate mail would be great, either a built-in function or just the ability to copy the text to clipboard to use Google Translate or whatever.

On PC a mouse click in the body of an in-game mail then Control + A and Control + C will copy it's text to clipboard. For chat just highlight the text.

If there is a problem with collecting loot, go to the Dyson Undine Battlezone and speak to the 'Loot Creature' to work it out. ;)

Seriously, since we don't have the Weekly Featured Episode that unlocks a piece of the Reward one week at a time, let's introduce some sort of mechanism that allows you to unlock all the remaining Special Rewards for some sort of Dilithium cost after you've run the Episode once. For example, you run 'Beyond the Nexus' for the first time and you pick the Trilithium-laced Omni as the Reward. For, let's say, 500 Dilithium each you can pick up the Torpedo and Console as well. I know Nexus is one of the easiest to run multiple times quickly but that was an example.

Klingon hair styles for aliens, also cold dwelling trait for aliens as well, seeing as Andorians, Aenar and Breen NPCs have that trait, also Q's Hat and bling.

Reputation weapons. Reaching tier 6 unlocks a different damage type variant of any given space or ground weapon that is a slotted project. It would be nice if the rep store ALSO offered the different damage types of weapons to be purchased with dilithium.
