Command a Section 31 Dreadnought!

fleetcaptain5#1134 fleetcaptain5 Member Posts: 5,051 Arc User
Emerging from the shadows comes the next top-secret vessel of the secretive organization founded to defend the Federation at any costs, by any means – the Section 31 Intel Dreadnought Cruiser!

From March 17th until April 7th on PC, we will be running a promotion that will provide an additional bonus when opening newly-purchased Research and Development Packs, or Duty Officer Packs.

I wonder if it's actually bigger than the Battlecruiser.

Also, hopefully they finally fix the targeting box issue of Swarm Mode.

They kinda forgot to post the specs on "1 Hangar Bay equipped with Section 31 Drone Swarms". I wonder how good those are.

Trait sounds interesting for Carriers and console pet builds, but I doubt it'd be meta.

Interesting, I wonder how micro-arrays interact with Surgical Strikes. Makes the trait a bit more useful as these will for-sure have some crits (all ranks will be +30% critical hit chance after the Intel change) and thus some Category 2 damage to leverage the 33% (presumably) Cat1 of the trait a bit more.

So is this a Cryptic Original design? I was under the impression there were only 2 S31 ship classes, and we already got them both.

If it is, it definitely fits - though it's not too hard to create more...S31's design aesthetic is simple enough to easily create an entire fleet out of it - and I hope someone does; I want to see an entire S31 fleet in games like Armada/Armada 2 (hopefully now that they're available on GOG and Win10-compatible, modders will come back to them - more likely A2 than A1, though) or Stellaris, which already has a metric *censor bark*ton of Star Trek ship models, including several designs straight from STO.
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

I somehow doubt it very much.

There is nothing interesting here for me.

It seems rather anemic for a Promo ship.

The confusion duration of the console clicky IS quite remarkable and likely to fly under the radar of most.
I presume the fighters are squadrons if they're sporting that many beam arrays, but their surgical strikes will interfere with SAD builds seeking to maximize them.

It's probably a respectable torp boat with Kinetic Magnet, Ionic Turbulence and Concentrate Firepower. However that 6.5 turn rate is far too cumbersome for anything I'd personally want to run a dedicated torp setup on. (Not sure how much swarm mode would actually help in that regard, and it would be vulnerable to forced-cancellation by some encounter groups.)

There are only 2 kinds of ships - account unlocked (good) and character unlock (expensive) know what bucket the ship you want fits in and plan accordingly. For me, i'd avoid it because I am biased only for account unlocks because I like my alts having the same ship as an option. That is clearly my bias and I might be missing out.... and that's ok.

The trait does look interesting for a carrier but unless the damage boost stacks per trigger then its not going to be very good. 33% damage boost to pets is pretty unnoticeable to total Pet DPS. Even on my full carrier build I don't use Dominion coordination as that 33% is to small to be any use.

There were three ships altogether. This is the last one from Section 31 besides the drone ship.

Legendary Gal-X exists. Don't really see the point of this ship.

Might buy and sell a few boxes for the gamblers though.

Hard pass on this one. It's not as ugly as the Emerald Chain, but its definitely not to my taste.

Its a cool S31 Miranda looking ship but I don't chase RNG anymore. If it ain't on the C-store I just don't even bother.

    There are 5 Discovery-era S31 Ships + Drone Ship.

Of those, 4 of them share the exact same saucer section, but have different setups depending on their role.

Shiva is Miranda-like (but larger), and the one we're getting with this Promo.
Hou Yi is the Shiva with 2 more nacelles, somewhat evoking the Nimitz/Europa-class.

Deimos is your traditional 2-nacelled design, but form-wise is closer to that of the Sovereign than the Constitution given the blended engineering/saucer.
Nimrod is the Deimos with 2 more nacelles, and is the S31 Command Battlecruiser we have in-game.

All 5 can be seen during the Battle vs Control, but the Deimos is harder to spot since it shows up at the very edges or in blink-and-you-miss scenes. The Nimrod and Hou Yi can be easily spotted, and the Shiva can be seen off to the side a bit more often than the Deimos, but is also one that could be missed or mistaken given the similar glow and lack of visibility as the S31 Stealth Ships.

This might be an almost perfect Promo Box ship. It's almost pure Space Barbie. I mean it's not a bad ship, but the main draw is it's looks. You can easily buy a near functionally identical ship way cheaper from the C-Store. There is no feeling of missing out on anything from skipping it. But if you get it you have a cool looking ship. Even if it takes 3 sector maps to make a turn.

yep. for me it's a pass since I gave up the completion fetish. unless they come up with some new darling of a ship, I'm pretty much done. I have the escort i love, Defiant, the cruiser I love, Constitution, Dreadnought, Odyssey, and science ship, Nova and Intrepid. and on the Alien side, D7, T'Liss and jemnaught.
