U.S.S. Akron - It is pronounced "ACK-run" not "ack-RON"
Sol System - It sounds like "Soul" not "Saul"
Sol sounds like Sol (short o) as if you're saying sold without the d....not Saul or Soul, their both wrong.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Sol sounds like Sol (short o) as if you're saying sold without the d.
That's how I pronounce it as well and how I have always heard it pronounced.
Either way, I think we can all agree that words have different pronunciation in different parts of the world and that the OP is being petty and looking for a reason to nit pick.
I'm pretty sure this question shouldn't have 2 "to".
oof. dangling preposition. tsk tsk.

Either way, this seems like a rather petty complaint.
To be fair... we had a similar case back when the 2800 FE series was first released, over the name of Facility 4028's AI, all because it was around the same time a certain terrorist organization was running rampant in the Middle East. No connection between the two whatsoever, but one or two people took enough offense to go public over demanding they change it.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

I don't think they even considered the Ancient Egyptian Goddess. Or know about her. All they know is terrorists = bad. Anything with same name = bad. At least that's how it came across back then. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they felt that way.

LMAO.. who died and left the OP as the authority of how TRIBBLE is pronounced? lets play my favorite one.. Cairo.
I guarantee you go to Cairo, GA and pronounce it K EYE RO they will laugh you outta town, there it's pronounce K AY RO.
and BTW OP, I have seen a few documentaries on the USS Akron airship, and NO ONE pronounced it AKRUN

Outrage is the new black, not orange.
A person or two was outraged about the female NPC's accent in the No Win Scenario too.
A few people don't seem to get that it's centuries in the future and not everyone grew up in whatever culture they might "look like" they belong to. Even in this century someone of Asian (or African or Pacific Islander or...) descent could have come from Asia, the US, England, France, ...anywhere. In the future they could be from a different planet, and could be half Organian or Ferengi for all we know.
That weird sorta-Australian accent an NPC is using might not be a clumsy voice actor, it could really be an officer from planet Claire. As Rose Tyler almost said: "lots of planets have a down under"

I don’t think so. Proper dicctionaries have phonetic notation too. And if the OP is giving away dictionaries.—I would like the 20 volume Oxford Second edition please. I really like etymology.

Everyone I know pronounces 'soul' like 'sold' without the 'd', so I'm confused by this statement, is there some other way to pronounce 'soul' or 'sold'? I do pronounce 'sol' the same way, but I've also heard it pronounced the way Janeway says it in the new mission so that didn't bother me.

Hmm. Pretty sure I've heard it like "Saul" from lots of sources over the years. It didn't stand out to me as odd, at least. /shrug
(and saying it like "Soul" out loud sounds strange. So, yeah. I don't think this is the only place I've heard it pronounced like that.)
Neither way is 'right' or 'wrong.'
You can actually listen to all the pronunciations here.
