So...is the 23rd Century Boost going to force me out of the 23rd Century or not?

kayajaykayajay Member Posts: 1,990 Arc User
The news article says:

However, applying this boost will allow the character to immediately be free to access parts of the game that are beyond their timeline.

Do so with care! Though such content is yours to freely explore, doing so may result in leaving the late-23rd century TOS-era behind for good, and there are no options to return to it.

Emphasis on the "MAY" part. Not will, but may. So...is it going to kick me out of the 23rd Century or not?

I've been purposefully keeping a toon in the 23rd Century and trying to level her by just replaying the first few episodes...I just don't want to leave the era!

I'd take the boost if it allowed me to stay, but it really isn't making it clear whether I'll get to, or if it'll force me into the 25th Century :-/

I can bring this up with Kael for clarification. Although I woldn't be surprised if this was more for players who already have played through content rather than fresh, new players.

As for my interpretation... I personally don't think it will just automatically boot you to the 25th Century the second you use it. The issue might be if you queue up for a TFO after doing so. But even then, a TOS character can still run the AoY missions again as they are accessable from the normal 25th Century Sector Space locations.

I would suggest that perhaps the boost box should be faction-locked to Federation, which would prevent it being used until the TOS character had advanced to 25th century normally, since TOS characters in the 23rd are not treated as Federation.

It's specifically faction-locked to TOS Federation. But there's nothing written that says you HAVE to use it at level 1. Do the 23rd century stuff first, THEN boost it. And if you're not wanting to boost just because you'd get taken out of the 23rd century map... well, don't get it at all, would be my recommendation, but eh.

I always thought it was a shame for the devs to spend all that time and effort to make something that unique, only to lock players out of it after a couple of hours of play...

I want to have my cake and eat it too. So, staying in the 23rd Century, but being able to do more than just those first few episodes. You're right, when SO much effort was made into creating the 23c it's a terrible shame to just throw it away so glibly.

Like the Flotilla for Romulans, you should be able to still go there.

I'd love to play a STF for one-on-ones, but I'm digging my heels in about abandoning my era.

When you leave a TFO you'll most certainly be placed non the regular galaxy map (the 25th century) since a TFO is not suppossed to place you back on the TOS map. I think that is what it means.

There's a 23rd century boost package? (akin to one they offered for the Klink). Will it be tied to a Legendary ship too?

It's tied to the Legendary Miranda that just came out.

    No. Based on this paragraph:
“Never tried the TOS-Fed experience before? This boost opens the door to playing the entirety of their unique and recently remastered story arc, without the worry of leveling up and re-gearing between episodes.”

I mean, there's already a precedent in the game with the Legendary Discovery boost.
Has anyone who got the pack used that boost while still in the Discovery era, and if so were you able to stay, or were you shoved to the 25th century?

They did what?! Just bought 6,000 Zen for the lv 65 boost. :( They better have it fixed within 11 days, or the 50% discount on the bundle runs out (after which I will be quite upset).

They had to take it down cause it was broken, but it's already back up according to this follow-up tweet:

it's glitching....me and others, who opened the level 65 boost box can't even reach Cestus, in the second quest. I HOPE it's either fixed, OR we make new toons, BUT be given REPLACEMENT level 65 boost boxes, with "DON'T USE IN 23RD CENTURY!" warning label.

Wait, so it isn't fixed yet? Very confused now. Haven't gotten the boost pack yet. Should I wait?

Based on my experience and the reports I've seen, it works fine if you use it after you get to 2409. Before that is when the Romulan "Choose an Ally" screen was coming up but that should be fixed now, smokebailey is the only one I've seen mention problems after that.

You can't just hit the replay button for the TOS missions and Transwarp?

I wasn't saying you were, only that you were the only one I personally saw mention problems after the fix for the erroneous "Choose Your Ally" screen went live.

Hope we get some fix on this...I don't mind making a new AOY character, but please replace the that level 65 booster, with "DON'T USE IN 23RD CENTURY!" warning label on it. That's pretty fair, right?

This was happening to me as well for the planet Eladrin. The area I could travel seems to correspond with he discovery era map even though I was on the TOS map.

I started to use the transwarp button in the mission journal to try to get there. The first few times I auto warped back to the middle of the sector I had left. After the third or fourth time I got the button that I had reached the planet. I was so happy I entered the mission before it could warp me out. Once the mission completed I was on the 25th century map. Although I can’t return to 23rd I do not seem to be impeded from completing the missions.

Pretty fair. :) And thank you for bringing this all to my attention.

I left the 23rd century now, and got my Tesseract (or whatever it's called).

(N.B. Interesting: what would happen with a new TOSling that does not get to be a Temporal Recruit? Do they just explode at Caleb IV, and that's it?)
