They used to give away Ship Upgrade Tokens with the purchase of T5 Ships during Store-wide Ship Sales. They have not done that in quite some time.
They have display bugs resulting from the recent UI Performance changes. There are other recent bugs, but this patch was directly solely at getting those T1-T4 Ships out of the C-Store. And that couldn't even be done correctly. Headlong rush - to what end? Just so there is no time for one to get the C-Store purchases/unlocks for these ships.

I assume the patch is primarily to deactivate the BotBS event, they just hoped to double it up with this change. They still need to take down the event today but yeah, they should delay the entire Tier change until later instead of half doing it now.
Given how they implemented this, I just don't understand.
All the T1-4 ships players already own are in a combined "Tier 1-4 Reclaim" tab.
So why couldn't all the ships just be placed in that one tab entirely, owned and unowned?
Just place them all in the one tab, for anyone that still wants to buy them.
This change just makes no sense in general, and the push of a knowingly broken fix that couldn't even do the one thing it was supposed to do, is baffling.
I have no problem with adding a way to buy these ships with Dilithium, but as someone who runs a number of Alts (I prefer to start a new character for each profession or timeline I'm doing) I am upset with losing the ability to just buy them for the account as a whole. Even if the overall price might still be cheaper going the Dil route over my alts (not everyone is going to use all those consoles) I don't want to have to spend all that time grinding on all those characters.
That's something everyone seems to be ignoring is how long it will take to refine all this Dilithium, especially for a new player. It takes 2 days of max dilithium refining for the tier 1 ships, by which point the player will be needing a tier 2. (Assuming they even managed to generate that much ore.) That trend continues the whole way. Tier 4 ships are especially bad, it takes almost 3 weeks to refine all the dilithium you need to buy a tier 4 premium.
Assuming you're level 40 at the start of that process... what level are you going to be 3 weeks of dailies later? I mean, it's not like there are a lot of ways to generate ore that don't also generate XP.

that's no excuse. the patch was implemented while it was known that there were problems with it.
Until Cryptic fixes the bugs and the huge lag problem, i refuse to give them a single cent. A company that charges hundreds of dollars but can't even give a stable bugfree game (or at least doesn't have bugs that are years and years old), doesn't deserve my money.
Also when coming back after 2 years not playing STO, spending $30 and getting hit immediately with a 7 day account probation.
This shows very little respect from cryptic towards their playerbase and, this is another reason to not spend any single cent on this game.
It was implemented to get those ships out of the C-Store before too many additional Account Unlocks could be purchased.

No, it was implemented to move the T1-T4s off the Zen Store AND to make them buyable with Dil....They just screwed up the Dil purchasing bit and knew they had and couldn't be asked to fix it, which is fairly standard

That is not an excuse, that is reality. As long as it does not totally break the game, I can wait for the fix. Also, keep in mind this might have also been a casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. They probably were getting ready to implement the patch but by the time they implemented it, they then realized that there was a problem that was not noticed until it was too late.
They certainly could have canceled the Patch, ended the Event, and turned on Bonus Marks.
Here's something you wouldn't know because they never said anything about it. The original Dilitium Ships (not the C-Store ones converting to Dilithium as they are not there) have had their prices lowered as in the News Blog AND there is an additional 35% Discount on top of that.
The T1, T2, T3, and T4 Tabs in the C-Store have been replaced with a T1-T4 Reclaim Tab instead.
Other than for the existing Ship Vendor Dilitium Ship this change is meaningless to me as I own all the C-Store T1 - T4 ships anyway.

reality is that if a patch breaks something, than you delay it.

Dropping the ball is a tradition here. I play this game, with some pauses, from almost day 1, and we still have bugs that dates from when Cryptic was owned by ATARI, so this don't surprises me at all.
afaik, events just end by timer or a simple GM command to turn it on or off

I think you can make T5U ships very viable these days, the 2500 ZEN ones though which are upgradable, I'm not sure many want to then spent another 600 ZEN for the upgrade. Might be nice they reduce the cost to 200-300 ZEN to make them attractive again.
But that's just a thought, as some ships can be very capable even without the specialist bridge abilities.
If you remember, they went a couple of years where they provided FREE T5 Ship Upgrade Tokens if you purchased T5 Ships during Store-wide Ship Sales.

They don't do that anymore?
I think I got one T5 ship when that was occurring, and another one during a giveaway. The latter one I found isn't eligible for the upgrade token if it was a free ship. Other than those, I haven't really gotten any T5 ships in years.
If the free T6 tokens could be used for T5 ships, I'd get more.
I may be alone in this, but I frequently purchase mid-tier ships for the consoles (Like quad-cannons or Picard Maneuver, for example). At this point, I have most of the ones I want, but I am still getting more. It would surely suck if I had to shell out huge amounts of Dil every time I wanted a console to add to one of my ships. I'm hoping this will be an either/or situation and not a total replacement to the current system. Do we really know for sure yet? Reading the announcement, it's not too clear.
No more C-Store unless you already purchased the Ships there already, then they appear in a new Tab called T1-T4 Reclaim.

Right there with you bro. But it's more like they forgot that half of said console where "generational". Meaning they with lose all the revenue on half of the consoles needed to fill out the 1/3 of the T6 roster if they give away those ships. So yep they did not think this through enough. But the fix is real easy. All it take is a tab with the any of the Consoles on sell for a reduced price since it is no longer 'need' to sell "with this" ship. Est est. Now think about AAALLLL the New "I am stuck at home with nothing to do. I think I will try that STO my so and so keeps on about" players that are now going to show up. And look ALL of the first four tiers for free! Can you say bankruptcy? So if you are reading this Cryptic. Keep the consoles for sale on the side and adjust the price to reflect the lack of a star ship, problem solved.
It's no mystery why those T1-T4 Ships were given the bum's rush out of the C-Store,with the Charge Bonus and Sale going on now.

Did I miss something, because I see some ships in the store that I don't own but now I can't buy them with dilithium either. The only zen store ships tier 1-4 that I see in the store are ones that I have previously purchased. Same thing at the shipyard no option to purchase ships that I didn't previously purchase.
There is a new Tab in the C-Store called 'T1-T4 Reclaim' under Ships. Any T1-T4 Ships you previously purchased from the C-Store will be there and in the Ship Vendor for 0 Zen.
The former C-Store T1-T4 Ships you never purchased are still not in the Ship Vendor for Dilithium. The only T1-T4 Ships you see in the Ship Vendor for Dilithium are the ones that have always been there, at the new reduced prices.
