We had a quality of life and wish list thread on this board a couple months ago. This is the very thing I asked for only I also hoped they would make them upgradable like T5’s. Glad to see the devs read the forms.
One thing, Am I missing it or is it implied? We will be getting admiralty cards with these ships and the skins will unlock, correct??

Of course you'll get the admirality and skins.
But they will not ever make all the t1-t4 upgradable. There is no need to.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
They are trying to get people to purchase the somewhat less than useful ships. For someone to buy one for Dilithium it would have to be very competitively priced. For someone who needs it on all appropriate Characters, it will cost more, and in some manner be a Dilithium 'sink'. They are moving towards more things as Account Unlocks not less.
This will spur some sales of these ships as they are fairly cheap. These ships would be useful for Consoles, skin unlocks, and Admiralty Cards.
Edit: To account for initial release Blog lack of proofreading and new Dilithium prices for C-Store T1 - T4 prices.

While it is nice to see the low-tier ships get a major cost reduction, I think this is a step backwards with the fact that these will now be character unlocks. Speaking as an altaholic here, I see no reason to buy character unlock ships just for admiralty cards, skins, or the (ultra rarely) useful console on toons that are already 65 and have admiralty completed.
But, of course, it is already done and Cryptic won't change anything, so what I or anyone else says about this doesn't matter in the end. They are just trying to find ways to siphon dilithium out of peoples' stockpiles.

They still have a few of these ships that need to be made into a T6 or at least a T5u. The Star Cruiser being first on that list for me.

Doesn't bother me in the least. Hell... I haven't bought anything under T6 for quite a while. I wouldn't mind having access to some ships at a lower tier, even if its just for the cosmetic unlocks.
Interesting idea. One wonders if they're just going to do away with tiers altogether, given that T6 ships can be used right at the start, and all you need to do is the tutorial...
Also remember that these will not be reclaimible if disposed of. If you want those T1 Constitution Phasers that scale, it may end up costing you 60,000 Dilithium or 150 Zen.
Edit: Corrected to account for the dopey initial release Blog and the new prices.

Well, this goes hand in hand with the saying 'Let no News Blog be released without an error'. Or was that 'an egregious error'?

Still character unlocks. Well that would mean I just skip these going forward... didnt buy any of the old "free" T1 to T4 ships from the vendor wont buy now.
There are 2 ships that I see being worth it for their console/weapon and that is the Pesus for the M6 Computer (for those of us without DOMINO) and the T4 Defiant/Valdore for the Quads

Other than that, skin fodder
Thought someone did the math and it was concluded that Dual heavy was better than Quad due to energy drain? course this was a while back when I read it...

Looked through the store, and I've already got most of the ones unlocked that I'd care about (costume-wise) from previous free giveaways. And I'm not that motivated by low-tier Admiralty cards.
I don't own most of the T1-T4 ships since they are almost all completely useless. With a very small number of exceptions for a few consoles and quads. Account unlocks are always nice and some folks may be a bit unsettled that they are no longer account unlocks. However, the trade off is more than fair. And if like me, you didn't already own those ships, you literally lost nothing by them now being single character only for dilithium instead of account unlocked with zen. Like me, you were probably never gonna buy them for zen anyway as evidenced by the fact that this is now a 10 year old game. This is especially true now that scaling T6 is a thing.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.
They are bad purchases IMO for those costs, most especially when you consider how quick leveling is in STO.
Yeah, they're basically just expensive admiralty cards.
They rendered everything obsolete the day they made T6 scalable. I'm not complaining, the scalable T6 decision was a great one, but they need to realize that the value of these ships is next to none. The only T4's I would pay 150k Dilithium for would be the Valdore or Defiant if I didn't have them already. I'll concede that 150k for something like the Valdore console is a heck of a deal, that console is fantastic.
Overall, doesn't effect me.. I already own these ships account wide.. but I personally believe the prices are a bit steep considering this is all obsolete stuff that you use for 10 levels which is like.. 2 missions.
I doubt I'll even glance at any previously Zen Ships, I'd fleet marks over doing that. However the new lower prices on the previously dilithium ships doesn't look to bad.
Thanks for the Advanced Light Cruiser, Allied Escort Bundles, Jem-Hadar Light Battlecruiser, and Mek'leth

Here is a simpler way to look at it. Since the former C-Store T1-T4 Ships are now going to be single Character purchases, ask yourself, is the original C-Store version, now Dilitium, worth 15x the cost of the same Tier original Dilitium Ship counterparts?

T1 = 15K
T2 = 37.5k
T3 = 75k
T4 = 150k

Also the T3 BoP for KDF quad.
