Repeated and frequent disconnections from the server

OK. A couple of weeks ago, now, I started getting repeatedly disconnected from the server - not the occasional disconnects that we all know and (since we're still here) presumably love: we're talking about "beam down, get disconnected, wait ninety seconds to be disconnected again before I can try to log back in, get back in, take a couple of steps forward, get disconnected again." By any rational standard, the game's unplayable - it's a good thing I'm not rational, isn't it?

I'm not entirely lacking in sense, though, so I submitted a support ticket. And after quite a few days of reading traceroute outputs and DxDiag files and things, and trying several no doubt excellent suggestions, the support team has revealed that - drumroll, maestro, please -

"it looks like the issue is the result of a bug."

So there we are then. The support team have promised to escalate this further, to the Cosmic Minds who maintain the code... but they also suggest submitting the problem to the Cosmic Minds in this here forum. So, distinguished colleagues, have you ever experienced anything similar, and what did you do to fix it, if anything fixed it at all?

(I'm on a fairly bog-standard Win10 laptop with a Radeon graphics card and associated software. Drivers are up to date, I've tried things like reducing graphics, disabling patching on demand, running Safe Mode, flushing the DNS cache - support actually came up with quite a number of useful suggestions. And I've tried them, and they haven't worked.)

No takers? Here's a traceroute and a pathping, in case it sparks any thoughts.

I have no help bar being able to say have been having the same issue which is a shame having just come back to the game after a couple of years trying to see how everything has changed.

I am new to Star Trek Online, and just encountered the bug. Players have stated, on Reddit, this is occurring at any ‘Ground Mission’ that involves ‘Borg Enemies’ in any Story/Episode Mission.

I’m hoping to continue enjoying this game soon.

Well, I've been doing some experimenting.... There are some connectivity issues at my end, and going to a wired-in connection has two distinct effects: 1) I keep tripping over the patch cables, and 2) the disconnections are replaced by crippling lag spikes. The game's still effectively unplayable, of course, since you do need to be able to move in a consistent direction and respond to events. (The mini-games are especially a nuisance. If you thought dilithium mining was an annoying chore normally, try doing it with a half-second delay between keypress and action....)

I've tried reducing my graphics settings to the point where the game looks like (tribble), I've tried launching via ARC, Steam and just the launcher... I've turned off my graphics software (and I mean turned it off, going into Task Manager and killing the relevant processes.) Nothing works consistently, though there are occasional days when everything is fine, and sometimes, even on a bad day, there is an occasional lag-free half hour. Frankly, it's baffling me.

Sounds like the same issue I have. I just got back into the game. Ground missions but not space. Game freezes, then crashes. Submitted ticket. They claimed newest patch fixed it. Still happens. Reopened ticket.

I've been having a couple of good days - I'm not going to say "the problem's solved", because the last time I did that, I jinxed it and it just came back worse the next day. But I might have found a possible solution, and I'll post it if I get, say, a consistent run of good days.

In the meantime, here's a traceroute and a pathping from a time when I'm not having problems, and if anyone can spot a significant difference from the ones where I am… well, that would probably be very helpful!

I have to admit, those 100% packet losses in the Akamai bits don't look encouraging... I assume it's a rounding error, and the occasional packet does, in fact, get through. I have this mental image of them, panting, out of breath, dripping blood from a dozen bullet wounds, as they arrive at the Cryptic server, gasp out "Shevet's toon has moved to the Fleet Starbase map!", and expire, nobly.

Right. Going through my own system, I found something had gone wrong with my firewall settings - gameclient.exe was there in the list twice, once with private but not public access and once with public but not private. That's the sort of thing that could confuse a stupid person, or a video game. Fixing that made the disconnects and lag a bit better.

And, of course, I have been on this so long, a new set of drivers came out for my graphics card... downloaded and installed those yesterday evening, and this morning everything was fairly smooth. Still the odd slowdown and glitch and rubberbanding, but not much worse than the usual... or, at least, what used to be usual, until a month ago.

I'm not going to tempt fate by saying it's fixed, but things are looking up a bit.

So - checked firewall settings and updated graphics drivers, now waiting to see if the improvement is permanent or just a flash in the pan.
