So Friday, I sat down and started playing a new(ish) character, and something weird happened. Seems like every single mission became available for the character all at once. And clicking on them one by one lead to quite the amazing run of episodes from all the story arcs. I went from the Klingon missions to an alternate universe with Tasha Yar and Castio! to Running from a Herald right behind Empress Sela to Dark Mirror Tilly Hijacking a planet weapon! It was a fun filled romp for many hours! ...Did I mention Dark Mirror Tilly!!!!?
Vague thread title. Please change for clarification. Thank you.

I think that is how it works once you've gone through the game for the first time, the game lets you skip missions and do them in any order. I don't know for sure since I have never seen it any other way as I've been in game before most of the existing missions were.

Once you have completed a Level 65 character and missions on your first character, your following characters get access to all of them irrespective of level once you have finished the tutorial.
And yes, you can disable auto-hail in your options menu.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Not just less linear. 5 minutes of, "Here, do this!" And Lee, I'll look into that once I get home from work. Now I have to check n see if I am 65th Level...
they removed level req and for the most part you can play any mission you want and skip what you dont... for the most part. Some still require you to do the opening mission intro to open up that arc thou.

It is a limitation in the way the program is designed (all programs have some somewhere). In this case it is either the mission flood or a rigid linearity that kept a lot of people from doing various endeavors because the leveling is so quick that if you do the events you end up at 65 before many of the missions are done.
Also, for some reason the mission skip function does not always work for everyone if the strict level requirements are "on" regardless of whether they qualify for the mission they are trying to skip to or not. Enough people complained about that bug and it proved elusive enough that the only practical solution was to just unlock it the way it is now.

It is not a limitation, it was intentionally programmed that way and duly the player-based was widely informed of this change. This was a QoL improvement asked for by many players who have multiple toons.
As for mission not unlocking, this is because the Account Server has not updated, and usually a map-change is all that is required to kick it off.

I believe “Spectres”, “Lost Dominion” and a handful of other “Galaxy At Large” side-missions still require L65.
I get the "don't like it, turn it off/ignore it," but I do wish it was slightly more sensible. All of the Lukari missions at once, instead of sequentally? Kobali I, II, and III popping out of order? It just feels incoherent.

They do, though having completed (or skipped) the arcs up to a certain point is also required.
For a Federation character, it's "Klingon War": either skip it or complete it, and "Wasteland", "Spectres", "Lost Dominion" and "Breen Invasion" (iirc) are unlocked in the Available tab of the mission journal.
For Romulans and Klingons it's their respective unique story arc.
Not agreeing with someone doesn't give you the right to be an TRIBBLE.
Ci sono tre tipi di giocatori:
- quelli a cui non va mai bene niente... e vanno sul forum a trollare;
- quelli che sono talmente imbesuiti da credere a qualunque cosa i dev dicano, perfino che la luna è fatta di formaggio... e vanno sul forum a trollare;
- quelli che credono a quello a cui è giusto credere, sono d'accordo con quello con cui è giusto essere d'accordo e sono critici con quello che non va;
Be aware that Missions in Arcs only in the Available Tab do not unlock all at once. You need to proceed through each Mission in an Arc in order to get to the next Mission in that Arc.

Good point, @ltminns! Also, you can't repeat them until you've finished the complet arc.
