in my opinion, these weapons are too expensive 20 k dil for a MK XII weapon. if you add to the cost of 1 weapon, the upgrade and the re-engineering random tool.
they could be MK II weapons, at least we would have a chance not to waste a ridiculous amount of ressources or they could be MK XIII UR. In all cases, we will have to spend our dil yet, everyone would be happy.
At tier 6, why we don't have the new weapons: for example, withering phaser.
I have created a rom plasma build for my main, but never again I'm going to waste so many resources, and it is really sad that the cost of these rep weapons prevents the creation of various builds.
ps: i know that these weapons are not very good, but the creation of builds is 1 of my pleasure in game. I don't chase dps, i don't care about the meta stuff.

I believe the intent is to help keep the DL Exchange in check as much as possible. The alternative to just buying them is to use the hourly boxes and hope you get the desired weapon type.
Did that with my Withering Disruptor build on my Romulan, because I wanted the red beams that kinda look a bit like lava to go with my Breen Rezreth that I named after a certain Subterrainian Lava Dragon. Slow process, but it works.

Yes.
Like many things in life, there is choice between the cheap way and the fast way.
I do this myself sometimes, when I'm looking for something specific. And other times I hit the rep store. Like when one of the other accts I play needed a certain energy ground endeavor and they didn't have anything of that particular type. Thankfully I've been refining their dilithium to be able to do that.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.

I'd just grab a cheapo one off the ex for that if I didn't have a free one.
Considering you can get many of the Rep Store items whilst you are levelling the rep for zero Dil, I don't think you can really complain. Just queue the hourlies.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
I'm doing that too. Keep what I think I'll need, sell the rest.

For MOST of the reps... you pretty much break even or even come out a little ahead. There's only a couple right now where you really are guaranteed to be losing ECs. Competative and Discovery. Competative because you can't sell the things and you only get 10k back out of the 15k you spend, and Discovery because all the consoles are worth less than 10k.

if everything was so simple. first of all, when i have levelled my rep, i wasn't interested by withering disruptor or something else, and even you have all the weapons given by the hourly (I did the hourly for my rom plasma beams), these weapons are MK XII purple, and the cost of the upgrade is still excessive.
this is an ineffective dil sink, because even if the weapons are "free", the cost of the upgrade is too high, and finally I don't try to upgrade the weapons.
i don't understand why the costs must be excessive and restrict spending. After all i don't care, it is not my game.
btw, it is not a complain just an observation, currently I just right click and discard the weapons when i get them during the hourlies. My though was only that this is sad, the devs have created stuff which are never used (or almost never used)
I use the Replicator, from the Inventory menu to discard unneeded items. It gives a comparable value to Stores and is more efficient than travelling.
The Dilithium cost for Reputation items is somewhat fair, in my opinion, but it would be nice to possibly have a rarity increase for modest price increase. Between Duty Officer missions and Dilithium Mining, as well as Admiralty, it's possible to earn a fair amount of Dilithium regularly. Currently I'm saving Dilithium to purchase the additional trait(s) and their respective upgrades from the Fleet store.

Given that you get over twice the dil for running the support project than converting the marks directly, it would be highly profitable to do it even without an item box at all.

I made a mistake, I wanted to write MK XII UR instead of MK XIII UR. the same level and rarity than the fleet weapons.

And that's why in real life there is Dollar Tree and Nordstrom's.
Dollar Tree has the cheap socks, Nordstrom's has the better socks.
Pay for what you can afford, and don't bemoan the possibility that someone else can afford to pay for better stuff if you can't.

Aside from very few things, I look to episodes for most of my weapons and gear. The rep stuff has always been overly expensive. Sadly, I doubt they will ever change that. The only things I get are a few consoles, and torps. But even then, they are only for specific builds.
It would be nice if they were to lower the cost of the gear when you hit T6 in the rep systems. But the only way to do that is with an expensive project for each rep system. I counted it up, and found out I would be spending more on that project, than I spend on all of my toons on any 1 rep system.
I know it is worth it for some people. But for me that project is more a waste of resources I have to grind for.

Leader of Elite Guardian Academy.Would you like to learn how to run a fleet? Would you like to know how to do ship builds (true budget as well as high end)? The join the Academy today!
The reputation weapons and gear in the store is expensive, but why would anyone have to use it anyway? You get something like seventy random items for each reputation just leveling them and they are the same as the ones in the store.
The set weapons are another matter entirely, they are generally worth the cost, especially after the cost reductions from older toons hitting top end in the reps. They are not vital mind you, fleet gear and some of the crafted and mission gear is just as good or better depending on what you want to do, but they are all you really need if you like the style.

sure, but I'm not a temporal traveller, I could not know in advance which builds I would like in the future; i'm sure that i'm not the only one in this case.

and why not? I personally don't chase the dps, my pleasure in game comes from the builds that I can create. I would like to have a protonic polaron build, for example, just for the fun and the diversity. I had the idea 2 weeks ago.
where would be the pleasure if all my toons had sensor-linked builds? nowhere!! (btw, i have sensor-linked builds)

Exchange is usually where I go too, for specific energy types.

lol.. you think Reputation Weapons are the best?
