If this was true there would be a few Romulan ships my fed would be interested in. I tend to focus on just one character and so my fed would buy ships like the various versions of the T'varo-class and carriers. Just looking though the T6 Romulan ships now incase there are any others.
Well they stopped working on Romulan faction and Romulan ships a fair ways back, presumably because they feel there isn't enough market for them to justify the dev-hours. (Which is weird, because Romulans are seriously the best race to play - but that's a player mindset issue.)
I assume they are looking at this because it will make for a nice cash bonus (selling Rom ships to all those Feddies out there) and will possibly open up the re-development of more Romulan assets in the future (if they sell well).
So I do kind of see the "Well Romulan faction just became even more generic" issue that some will feel is a result, but I also have hopes that this will lead to a few more Romulan designs in the future.
This isn't a ploy to sell Drydock slots. The vast majority of Romulan ships are C-Store and are thus freely reclaimable after dismissal. No need to Drydock them. Fleet versions would though, but anyone creating Fleet versions would seem to be serious about flying the ship and not just interested in scoring another Admiralty Card.

They haven't stopped working on Rom ships at all, with one released in the Temporal Warships pack, and I'll remind you that the Roms have the most unique faction missions, more than ALL the Fed variants and Jemmy combined, and those missions have been getting a spruce-up since the beginning of the year, with new cut-scenes.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
This is news that definitely excites me, and I doubt I'm the only one who saw this coming since we saw the faction-agnostic nature of the latest Romulan Temporal Warbird that was just released.
I know most people playing games like this have a ton of alts, but I don't roll that way personally. I play a Fed, but I looooooove Romulan ships, so I'm going to have a field day raiding the C-Store. I don't even know where to begin, honestly lol, so many ships I can't wait to use. What a boon for PvP nuts: Feds with battle cloak without a console tax. Heavenly.
This will only be good news for Romulan players, since Cryptic will obviously make more Warbirds since anyone can buy them and fly them. Nothing but good news for everyone.

Wow...you're right! One ship in over a year....they're really working hard on dem Roms!

No they wont....if that was true then we would have seen more JH ships since they unlock for any faction. We haven't...except for one token ship in over a year.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Hmm...still no T5 mirror ships mentioned in the exclusion list, so presumably they are supposed to be available.
I wonder if they're going to remember to actually enable them this time. And if they're going to notice they still haven't enabled the F/K ones for romulans.
Great news. I haven't purchased many Rom ships due to the fact that they are were only usable by a few of my toons. Compared to the numerous KDF and Fed ships I have purchased as they were all useable by a good percentage of my toons. Now, unless I read the article wrong, Rom ships are now basically non-faction and can be used by anybody, making them (other than from an RP perspective) the best bang for the buck available. Buy one ship and it can be used by all your toons, no matter what faction they are. I love it.
Of course even though other than possibly for mastery traits I will probably only fly my Rom ships with my Rom toons, I am still going to end up buying a lot more ships now. Knowing me, it won't be too long until I own every T6 Rom ship in the C-store other than the ones that are still locked in as Rom only.

There is a small exclusion list, mostly temporal warbirds, including dreads like Valkis
+ So now all my captains can grab all those romulan ships I own for admiralty
- So...death of the romulan faction it is then.
I'd like to think of it as the covert take over of the other factions is complete. D'Tan will drop all the remaining pretense will declare himself Praetor of a new and slightly more benevolent Star Empire.
Its not like we didn't know they were going in this direction given hints dropped in Temporal story and when they unlocked almost all the allied ships for the Roms. My hope now is that enough federation players buy and fly ships so that when I hop into the Sol system I can see a massive fleet of warbirds over Sol in all its glory!

The ones who've devoted their life to the game, yeah that's a whole 'nother problem.
But even though I'm not a Romulan main, it's still sad to see the distinctiveness of between the factions continue to erode. It dulls the experience overall, for those who enjoy that distinctiveness - whatever little was left of it.
I have to expect this is part of something building up to Picard though. Otherwise it's really strange to make such a wide change to something affecting Romulans so close to potential major changes coming when Picard airs.

It's not really that sad tbh. Roms have enjoyed access to other faction's ships for years, and as the blog sense, it makes sense, now that the 'alliance' is formed to share technology. Talk of it diminishing Rom's is just plain hogwash, as they still have the longest run of original missions by a country-mile.

For years? I think they got it like around Discovery season announcement when they had the topic: Romulans command the ships of your allies. Found it:
So now there are no factions left at all, since Fed/KDF already died when they unlocked their ships last year and the jemmies were born dead with no "exclusivity" to begin with?

when can my fed use kdf ships then... "makes sense" is all fan fic. you man make sense of anything if you try hard enough.
I guess that kinda means we can stop worrying about breaking packs. Buy the ship you like the most, and if you later "need" the trait or console on a character of a different faction, get the Romulan ship.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. It does seem to fudge the lines between the factions more now, making everything open to everyone. But, there are players who years ago made alien-gen Romulans and didn't want to remake them when the Rom faction was introduced. Now, those player and captains can fly Rom ships, be they Fed or KDF alien-gen Roms. This is a nice thing for those players.
For me, all it does is open up more Admiralty cards. Sadly, Admiralty is something I haven't bothered with in years. Way too much of a hassle to go thru and claim all the ships. I do appreciate that now I could have even more ships to use, it's just more time wasted claiming them. However, I'm in the minority as far as use of the Admiralty system goes, so those that do play it a lot, this is yet another boon for them.
As far as flying Rom ships goes, I've always loved the looks of most of the Romulan ships. There are of course a few that look, ummm, less than stellar, but a majority are incredible ships. Unfortunately for me, I absolutely detest the Singularity mechanic. So much so that while leveling my various Roms, I used what low level Fed/KDF CStore ships I had over flying the Rom leveling ships after my second Rom alt, even the CStore ones I have access to. It's a personal choice, and I've seen many players really do incredible things with the Rom ships. I just can't physically keep up with all the micromanagement they need.
Even though I have every CStore Rom ship, if it doesn't have a warp core I do not ever intend on flying them. They were a "bonus" from buying all the cross faction packs. I mean, when I'd buy the 3 pack of cross faction ships for 6k Zen, I was getting the Fed/KDF ones, the Rom ships were just tacked on freebies. The few with warp cores, though I will look forward to flying. Eventually.
Eh, still not sure if this is a good thing or not, but it's here now (or will be Soon™) so I guess we'll just wait and see how it goes.
Hello. My name is iamynaught and I am an altaholic.
May as well just unite the factions already....so everyone can fly everyone else's ships and KDF can visit ESD and Feds visit Qo'nos...ect ect.
There is literally almost no exclusivity left, only needless boundaries.
They should probably do exactly that. When the game began there was only the Federation faction as a PVE thing... the KDF was pure PVP... basically something you could make a PVP only character on so Fed PVPers could blow you up. At some point they ambitiously decided to make full faction differences like WOW, but they lacked carry-through. It's been ages since there was any faction-exclusive game content outside of the odd ship. Might as well just go with a single faction like the early days.
unless there's some ship trait that was locked away from my fed characters that I can now get, not really a big deal. my romulan flys romulan ships.
Any romulan trait that was only available to the romulan faction tended to appear, for free, in the dilithium store for your non-romulan characters once you unlocked it on the romulan.

So much for your Star Trek immersion experience.
It's a cash grab; not a good idea for long term Star Trek development.

Excellent. Looks like everything is available except for the lockbox/lobi vessels. That's fair I think.

Also like others have said, if this means more nice warbirds, it's all good - faction uniqueness was given away long ago with the whole RR thing.
