ambassadorkael#6946 ambassadorkael Member, Administrator Posts: 2,674 Community Manager
Greetings Captains!
We will be having a maintenance tomorrow, 9/11 at 5AM Pacific on all platforms. PC is estimated to be down for 6.5 hours, Console is estimated to be down for 5 hours. (What time is this for me?)
You can find our PC patch notes here. No Patch notes for Console, just routine maintenance.

Dissapointed that some of the major problems still are not fixed yet :(
Continuing to wait for more substantial updates.

Nice to see that the Iconian rep shield has received a fix since I still use that set.

So much you need to fix that's never getting fixed. The bug forum simply isn't big enough to file every bug we encounter every day. Not that it does any good since nothing important ever gets fixed anyway.

Hey look on the bright side its new ship day. But yes it would be nice to see a patch note with proper bug fixes in them and not text, graphical or space Barbie fixes.

We already had a maintenance on 9/11 (you know, where you guys introduced that silly voting system). I expected a regular maintenance event today, starting at 4 pm my time: not at 2 pm already. :( And certainly not one that's going to last )(*&%$%^&*() 6.5 frikking hours!

Why are we having ANOTHER 5hr downtime 2 days later (the 13th)?! I just got ZEN and want to spend it... in 3 days 10hrs of downtime, not even in WoW did this happen! lol

As a developer myself I completely understand the need for such extended downtime so thank you for attempting to keep us in the loop. However, the patch notes do not merit a 6.5 hour downtime. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to what else is being done. I'm very curious. Otherwise people are just going to assume you're ninja patching more Discovery things in preparation of the new expansion. Any clarification would be much appreciated.

Exactly. I gave up on my Engineer captains since 2 of their space powers are broken completely. My temporal drain powers seem to be unreliable, within range and with full entropy the consumer does not consume or drain shield or replenish my own shield. Reports of more broken space traits, broken risian corvette console, pets that still do not reliably respond to player commands (dock, wait, nothing; intercept/attack/defend, dock, wait, nothing), and that's in addition to un-fixable core code issues such as powers not activating on toggle unless keybound, and we just lost the 2nd keybinding row, and zero keybind rows on Jem'Hadar, HUD being a massive FPS hog, still seeing FPS abilities that cripple high end gaming computer.

Although I agree with you (while we're at it let's throw the cloaking bug of 2011 in) but bugs are not easy to fix always. There's a balancing act in fixing and maintaining the existing content whilst pushing new content. On one hand you have to try to keep the game playable. Secondly, you have to make sure the bugs are being addressed methodically. Thirdly, when new content is pushed out, more bugs are destined to show up, thus putting a strain on my aforementioned points. Finally, the devs also have to address the longevity of the game which requires more content and so the cycle starts anew. You would hope they would already have this cycle(system) down, however it seems they do not as far being balanced with it.

    > First, you are wrong, my brother played WoW for years, 10 hours of downtime in a week was not even uncommon. Second, due to requirements Cryptic has to operate under with both Microsoft & Sony, the console versions of STO often can't be patched on Thursday when PC id patched.

I started playing WoW like a month after it came out and I just recently stopped playing... I've NEVER seen a 10hr downtime for maintenance.

Now there has been times when the servers had issues due to weather etc... but not for maintenance.

Cryptic/Arc are updating their server hardware. When this was done last month, we were told about it well in advance so we could prepare for it. This time, they haven't said a word. Just springing it on us and not mentioning anything that this week is just week one of three. As eazzie posted earlier with the link they supplied, there will be more maintenance next Tuesday the 18th and the Tuesday after, the 25th.
    Tuesday, September 11th - 5am PST

    4 hour maintenance
    All games will be offline

    Thursday, September 13th - 5am PST

    4 hour maintenance
    All games will be offline

    Tuesday, September 18th - 5am PST

    7 hour maintenance
    Games affected:
    Neverwinter
    Star Trek Online
    Champions Online

    Tuesday, September 25th - 5am PST

    10 hour maintenance
    Games affected:
    Neverwinter
    Star Trek Online
    Champions Online

Now, why we can't be informed of these maintenances on the official forums and have to dig around to find this information is a bit strange.

As already posted. There is extended ARC maintenance https://www.arcgames.com/en/arc-news/detail/10999993 Just to clarify. Age of Discovery is NOT an expansion. It is a content update.

Two mega-maintenances just when there's an event where it actually matters when exactly you log in are a bit inconvenient, but if it had to be done, it had to be done.

  • gameversemangameverseman Member Posts: 1,110 Arc User
This game existed before Arc was introduced. I don't see why Arc maintenance should now affect STO (or any game for that matter). Arc is just one of two (technically 3) ways Cryptic/PWE uses/implements micro-transactions in the game. Does that mean to say the game, to the developers, is nothing without those micro-transactions; even in a temporary sense?

Arc has affected STO since PWE bought Cryptic, and that was back in 2011? This isn't the first time Arc maintenance has affected the Cryptic games, and it won't be the last.

I used to use Arc for the "Arc Points" system they had, to earn some extra Zen, but since that feature has gone away, I don't even bother with Arc anymore. And I never use Arc to load and play the game, unless I make a new alt and I want the Khan outfit, since you need to log into the character while using Arc to get it.

If anything, with Arc being down it gives Cryptic a window to do their own server maintenance, adding or replacing hardware, which I believe is exactly what is happening.

There's still 2 more weeks of this, though you'd never know it by what we get told here on our official forums.

I complained about that on the ARC FB page...but still nothing about the extended maintenance from PWE over here.
