Totally getting the Holo-Kurland so I can equip him with no gear or weapons whatsoever and watch him die repeatedly.
....that sounds more like of a weyoun move
and on that note, this essentially means that you can in fact have a vorta boff on a jem character, which doesn't even remotely make sense
so remind me again why no vorta were included because it didn't make sense?
They're holograms, not Vorta.
Holographic vorta is still a vorta. Don't split hairs
A holographic Vorta is an in-universe facsimile made to resemble a Vorta, not an actual Vorta. It's not a Vorta unless it has Vorta traits and no photonic traits.

I was just about to reply...I agree. In universe, this is a holographic crewmember designed to emulate the appearance of the Vorta species, Lor'iss or Weyun in particular. But they are not flesh and blood Vorta, they are not members of the military rank which command the Jem'hadar. They are regular crewmembers.
Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

I know they seem to get a pass because they are FTP, but with everything that has happened we are still doing more lockboxes (aka lootboxes)? Just counting the days till legislation makes this slot machine TRIBBLE illegal or at least heavily regulated in many countries. Despite my belief that they are overpriced, ship/item packs in the z-store are a far less sketchy way of keeping your game going

The Belgian authorities, with their insanely strict gambling laws, cleared STO already. You should really pay more attention.
They didn't clear STO, it simply wasn't one of the four games they evaluated.
Does this mean Boff pathing is going to be fixed with VIL ? Also not happy about the Dominion Battlecruiser being put in a lockbox "BUT !" happy it finally got into the game as I've wanted it for years ever since Dominion ships came into the game

When you replicate bread from the replicators it is still bread. Likewise this is a Vorta made of photonic light. But it still a Vorta. The reason we didn't get playable Vorta (if you can believe this) is because 'ONE' intro episode (yes you heard that correctly one) was written specifically for Jem'Hadar in such a way it would cause the fabric of space and time itself to collapse if they added a playable Vorta (real reason: it wouldn't make sense.) As if that ever mattered, tell that to the odd looking aliens that run around KDF & Romulan starting worlds ◕_◕
I thought it was because all the episodes were Jem'Hadar making into this deep giant Jem arc going through the Dominio War to the present time. But it turns out it was just one bloody episode. And that is the reason you can't play Vorta. Least there is talks about adding them. But I wouldn't get your hopes up.

The more direct comparison is "when you simulate bread on the holodeck using photonic energy, it's still a simulation of bread. It has no substance, you cannot eat it. Likewise, Holo-Weyoun does not taste the same as real Weyoun. He is not a Vorta, he's a hologram made to resemble a Vorta."
And that carries a whole different set of behavioral parameters and physical responses. See. The Doctor in his entirety (through VOY) versus Zimmerman in his meatiness, or any hologram in Star Trek versus any humanoid life form. The major question was never "are they physically comparable?" (explicit answer: no.) It's whether a set of computer algorithms could become an emergent life form with its own unique characteristics (see again: The Doctor through his entire arc.)

So for the Ferengi coats with tails... you guys ever fix the 'gravity' issue with the Voth coat tails? Cause I assume this uses the same broken mechanics.

If the revised Battlefront 2 lootboxes have been cleared (and they were) STO has exactly zero to worry about.
That's conflation & speculation upon your part with Battlefront 2 & STO. I didn't buy that Battlefront just because of that gambling & now I'll have to eventually buy it because it looks too damn pretty. I'd like an explanation about how what STO does & other games do isn't gambling when there are no official published odds. If one doesn't know the odds, whether it might be a better chance or a worse chance, it is a gambling. In any legitimate casino world-wide they have to display the official odds for accountability & transparency. The reason PWE, CBS, & Cryptic doesn't is because the odds are so abyssal that publishing them would deter purchasing & hurt their revenue stream. Our, USA, laws haven't caught-up yet with the technology nor will it under our current administration, & there's others in the world but strides are being made for informing consumers world-wide more & more. It's not a lot to ask for accountability & transparency when gambling. It's just information that are the official odds, imo, that need to be published. Also, if your method is purchasing items via the Exchange that is indeed the smarter method.
I am a bit disappointed to see the last canon jem'hadar ship end up in a lockbox. It's a shame, really liked that one. I suppose it makes sense since that's where the others are.
There's some pretty nice stuff being added here, I'm just not a fan of the way it's being added. In particular, the holographic boffs seem like they could be a lot of fun.
If the revised Battlefront 2 lootboxes have been cleared (and they were) STO has exactly zero to worry about.
It's worth mentioning that since it's official launch EAfront 2 has not had purchasable lootboxes. The ability to purchase the boxes was removed the day before it's release and when they did re-include microtransactions they removed the lootboxes completely in favor of a simple system where you just buy cosmetics. This doesn't make what EA attempted to do with EAfront 2 any better, but it does mean there was never any cause for it's lootboxes to be regulated as by the time anybody thought to do so the offending systems had already been removed from the game. As such EAfront 2 being cleared has no impact whatsoever on whether or not the lootboxes in this game or any other may or may not be illegal in Belgium or elsewhere.
As a whole I may not like lockboxes for obvious reasons, but their inclusion in a game doesn't destroy the whole gaming experience. As long as the game doesn't go full EAfront 2 and design the whole game around getting people to buy them.
...900 Lobi though for a raider, lol, only if it has better stats. I guess even the "Space Rich" Country Clubers need their top-of-the-line golf carts...
Twelve lobi are worth one Cardassian Lek so for a mere 75 Leks you can get an entire space ship. I wouldn't call this space rich.
If I were planning to main a Klingon, Romulan, or Cardassian toon in Victory is Life, I'd keep an eye out for that Maquis Tactics ambush damage space trait on the Exchange once the box starts circulating. Other than that, there's nothing in this box that I'd find terribly compelling, and I honestly like that. I'd rather see the stuff I want come from reputations, events, or the actual store.

It depends on the holotech you use. Holodecks originally used holomatter instead of magnetic fields and light. The Yareda used an Omicron Field to make physical objects (these might be biological beings created from particles in the field) then there are light and magnetic fields like the doctor, amd finally there are Isomorphic Projections that are the most advanced holograms, I don't think they are made of light, I don't know what they are made of.
They could even bring back ship cosmetics as a C-store items or bundles.
They would be more popular than the bean counters think as long as the price wasn't stupid. 50-75 zen for per character and account unlock option at 200-250 price range would get them shifting.
As they are the vanity shields are a rather pathetic attempt to lure folk into the gambleboxes as in theory the drop rate will be higher than a ship BUT the drop also relies on the weapon crate appearing instead of dil mining vouchers, doff xp boosters or the other naff padding items.

Plus you can just buy it off a player for EC so you dont even need lobi.

I hope the console for the BattleCruiser works as part of a set with the older Jem’Hadar ships.
That will benefit both players who went for the existing Jem’Hadar lock Box Ships as well as those getting the T5 versions on their ViL Gamma Packs.
Really looking forward to seeing stats. Especially since I love battlecruisers.
Holo-kurland had me checking the date to make sure I'd not timeslipped back to april 1st.
I look forward to avoiding another gamblebox
