B'Tran Cluster Technicians

Two questions:
Is there a particular "trick" to getting a Very Rare technician from the B'Tran cluster? I've completed 7/7 on two toons, and only received a Rare both times...

Also, does it start again after completing it?

It used to be that once you completed 7/7 you were awarded a DoFF, usually Rare.

After that, you could get recruitment missions to try and recruit new technicians and those are the ones that grant the VR Techs that everyone wanted.

I recently returned to B'Tran and tried this technique on an alt that I was going to convert to an Aux2Bat setup and found that it was simply no longer possible to farm the cluster for officers. After completing 7/7 I checked the cluster twice a day for a month and never received another recruitment mission.

From what I could see, this was stealth nerfed at some point, because it no longer seems possible to get VR Techs from B'Tran. Not sure if this is intentional or not but it really sucks.

I will have to check this out. I have never had a problem and all of my toons have multiple copies but I have not tried recently

Well.. I can head up to B'Tran and check...I have 3 more Characters to do DOFFing tonight.

My check of B'Tran at 5pm....Pacific Daylight
OK... first character....no joy in B'Tran Cluster. Update to happen in 30 mins.
So I will go grab some dinner then come back and check with another.

My check of B'Tran at 6:20pm....Pacific Daylight
OK second character....no joy in B'Tran Cluster.
Another DOFF assignment update to happen in 2hrs and 30min.

I am not going to wait 3 hours to do my 3rd character. LOL!

BTW...I am looking for the Support B'Tran Colonization Efforts assignments.

You will always get a Rare upon completion of 7/7. After completion of 7/7 you need to run Support Colonization Efforts which rewards the VR technician on a critical success.

You need to find the Support B'Tran Colonization Efforts assignment after doing 7/7 and achieve a Critical success to get a purple Technician.

It took me a little over two weeks to both get 7/7 and get the Support assignment enough times to get 3x purple Technician, when checking about twice a day a few months back on my KDF character.

They are so broken, If anything ever gets fixed I would love for the doffing be it. One of the main reasons I will not create another alt.

It was on a Federation character.

Maybe that makes a difference, I do know what missions to look for.. I have farmed the cluster many times in the past. I haven't done it in quite a while, decided to hop back there last month and try and grab a couple Techs. I sat there for probably about 3 weeks, logged in once or twice a day.. never saw a single Support Colonization mission.. not one. I did get the Rare at 7/7 but after that.. absolutely nothing.

Maybe I'll pop back there later on my KDF and see if I get different results. Anyone get a VR Tech from B'Tran recently on a Fed?

The quest pops roughly once every 24 hrs. If its not there, relog your character, this will sometimes give you a different mission set.

Note: FYI...I changed instances 3-4 times each time I checked B'Tran Cluster...still did not see that Support Colonization assignment in B'Tran.

Make sure you tell people what that instance number is.

Picture gets bigger if you click it. I was in Zone #5.

I was mainly confirming that it still exists, but if you need it... DOffing would've just clicked over to a new list at the time of this post.

A few additional things that might be worth noting:
This is on PC, given what I'm hearing on Consoles who knows what bugs PC doesn't have but XB1/PS4 do.
You have to fly up to the cluster and interact with the button to show cluster missions, not just open the usual DOffing window, hence the 'B'Tran Cluster' heading under the 'Department Heads' on the left.

I just went there on all my characters and realized non of them was up to 7/7 for B'tran, and most were actually at 1/7.... but I was able to find chain assignments just fine.

I used the method @seaofsorrows described but on KDF side earlier this year.

Worked without issues for me. Only thing I noticed was that I went there for 3 weeks without managing criticals on the repetitive assignment for the doffs. Chances were always in the mid 20s %. I then saw to doffs on the exchange triggering better crits there and ended up with 3 critical hits in a row after increasing chance to lower 30s %. It’s a game of chance but was still rather strange.

Been trying all day just to verify, did exactly as posted in this thread.. playing on PC.. missions simply do not exist for the character I am trying it on. Changed instance, re-logged.. tried everything.

Not sure what to tell you OP.. keep trying, obviously it's possible for some people to get them. I can tell you this though, it's not possible for me anymore. I have done this many times over the years, I have several characters that each have 3 purple VR Techs, I used to farm this thing like crazy.. but it doesn't work (for me) anymore.

Could be a bug with the character, I am not really sure.. all I can tell you is keep trying. I'm going to keep checking and see if I can get it to pop for my Engineer, but it's been 3 weeks + with nothing so far. At this rate, assuming I can get one to show up in the next week, given critical chance.. I should get the 3 VR's in about 2-3 years. lol

For those having troubles, what does the DOff Chain screen say for it?
Any special modifiers on these characters, like being Delta-rerun toons? I don't recall hearing of any issues during the first Delta run, but maybe something broke this time. I didn't make any Delta-rerun toons, as my first run KDF-Delta still isn't complete with all the stuff, so I can't test it for the new ones.

Yeah, if it comes down to it and I really need VR Tech, I can get them other ways.. it was just always nice to have the free option. Hopefully it's just a string of bad RnG and eventually I'll unlock them. Luckily, I am not in a rush, the character is already well equipped, I just want them for an alternate build for her.

I am parking one of my KDF characters at B'Tran.

6:30am check.... Support Assignment not available.
2hr and 30mins before update. I will check again at 10am.

10am check.... Support Assignment not available.
3 hours before update. I will check at 1pm...maybe.
Because this is more of a pita than I thought it would be. LOL!

1:15pm check....Support Assignment not available.
3hr and 45mins before the next update. Which means sometime after dinner time for me.
Breaking my day up into 4 hour blocks is annoying. LOL!

6:30pm check...Support Assignment is not available.
Next update is going to happen at around 9pm... no way am I staying on the computer that late today.
My eyes are already tired of looking at STO.

So, this is my last round for Today. Still have not seen the B'Tran Support Colonization assignment.
I would like to note: I sign out of the game at least once and change to at least 3 different instance EACH time I do a check.

I do not remember it taking this many tries when I ran these assignments for my older characters. I know that switching Instances DID NOT change the assignments in the clusters, either. There are WAY too many Instances of Sector Space to try to figure out which one has the Support Assignment. MOST of them are already filled, anyways....so can't even get into them!!!!!

I think whatever changes they made to the way this work...it made it MUCH TOO RANDOM.

As I recall, for KDF, the D'Kel cluster DOFFs are some of the best for getting the crits on the other clusters.

This is true as they have all 3 traits needed for highest critical percent. Of course there is the problem of getting 5 of them from D'Kel. ^^

You don't want to use those DOFFs for the Support Assignments though...not high enough Crit with them.
Do not use the Assault Squad Officers or the Security Officers, I believe that was them.

So, I have been trying this furiously all day long.. and finally just now got one of the Support Colonization missions to show up.

They're still there.. but they seem to be very very rare.

Given how long it would take at this rate to farm 3 VR DoFFs, you're probably better off buying them off the exchange. They go for about 10M a pop, to they're not too bad.

Alternatively, you can buy 3 blue ones and use those while you wait out the long process of farming B'Tran cluster. When I farmed these many years back they didn't take nearly this long.

Well...since I am awake and on the computer at 2am.... I may as well check out B'Tran, again....
No B'Tran Support Colonization assignment on every instance I could get into.
There is one more instance I am flying back to B'Tran in as I type.

I definitely do not remember this being the case to find one Support Colonization assignment when I did this on my 6 mains a few years ago.

I finally got the mission with my Delta Rom/KDF twice after initial doing 7/7, both time the doff that was rewarded was a Prisoner not the blue or Purple Technician that I should have got. So yeah something is up.

as I recall, the repeatable support colonization doff mission is rare or the like... so it is not always up even if the cool down from the last run is over. odds of getting a critical purple, listed odds, should be mid 20s to low 30s depending on what doffs you are using... but my experience shows that it's worse. you just need to keep trying and hope you luck out.
