Windows 10 April Update

We’ve recently identified an issue where the Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) caused graphics drivers to revert to an unstable version. If you’ve taken this Windows Update, please confirm that you are using the most recent version of your graphics drivers provided by your graphics card manufacturer. You can find your most up to date graphics drivers on your manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel).

In general, please be aware that any update to your operating system has a chance to affect your video drivers, and that it may take time for our team and/or your graphics manufacturer to react and improve compatibility with the update. This is particularly true for major updates such as the Windows 10 April 2018 Update. If you’d like to prioritize stability, you may consider delaying major operating system updates until they’re confirmed to be stable.

    A point to consider:

As AmbassadorKael hinted at, you absolutely want to get the latest drivers only from the manufacturer's website. Do not rely on Windows to give you the latest drivers, as they have to vet the drivers through their own systems first before porting it out to the users through the system updates. Often this means that the drivers Windows provides are a generation or two out of date, and sometimes the drivers have been "sanitized," which means that some of the functionality has been merged or broken.
Space Barbie Extraordinaire. Got a question about Space Barbie? Just ask.

    Things I want in STO:

    1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
    2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
    3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
    4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
    5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
    6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
    7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.
    8) Independent Faction, because yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me!

Or just disable ALL updates - at least until Microsoft works out the bugs. Lately these cause more trouble than good IMO.

I had no problem... at least not in my notebook, on my desktop PC was a disaster... it was due to a format, so not that much of a problem, anyway, just check your drivers an all that..

I did lol a thought aww great new mean better. As you probably know am no that tech savvy when it comes to computers lol I know how to do most things and checks I’ve learned more from help you guys give in the forums. Intel stppped supporting hd3000 graphics so my safest option is to go back to the original windows that came with machine followed by a very large patch to install game again lol

Starting around the first of the month I began having a "Black Screen" issue with my OS. Every time I logged in, I had a completely blank black screen. No Desktop icons, no Start Button, no Taskbar. If I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del I could get to the Task Manager and from there I could launch most apps (including STO) which would work fine, but Explorer (the Win10 "shell" I think it's referred to), would run but do nothing. Anyway, Google led me to various fixes, including installing the latest Nvidia drivers, none of which would be permanent. Finally, I found there was a new Win10 v1803 had not yet been delivered to my system, so I manually installed it. Since updating to 1803 I haven't had the Black Screen issue.

The only STO issue I had recently (days after the above) were sudden/daily CTD. I read about the 64b launcher, switched back to 32b launcher, and have been problem free since.

    So, yay?

    LOL

Anyway, thanks for the notice, Cryptic.

You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

Last night I got a notice from Nvidia of another update dated 05/09 (which I applied). Didn't notice any changes afterwards, but at least I still have the latest version.

I'm still leery of this whole "Windows for Workgroups 3.11" thing. Will this be very different from my good old Win 3.1?

Darn newfangled tech! Maybe I'll just go back to my C-64, it was way more stable! ;)

Having the latest drivers did not fix the issue reported in this thread:

Mine has made everything look terrible. I have a GTX 1060 and run with max settings. Everything is blurry and makes it hard to play. My driver was not updated, updated it and still looks bad.

if stuff looks blurry and terrible, your render scale might've gotten TRIBBLE up

try /renderscale 1 and see if that fixes it
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

I haven't gotten the 1803 update, and don't want to get it. Trying to figure out how to disable Windows updates. I had reinstalled the latest video drivers for my card and Tribble is still not working. I had the same thing that did the recent crash to desktop with "unsupported device" error that was reported after the 5-10-2018 patch. The 5-11-2018 patch for the NVidia cards fixed Holodeck, but still can't hit Tribble.
