Star Trek Online - Mirror Universe

xuelxuel Member Posts: 169 Arc User
Was going through all the Terran Empire reports from rep. It got me thinking how it'll be to see how they beat the Iconians first hand. So why not a sister game to STO that has everything game has but takes place within the Mirror Universe (with some differences, such as traits having different effects, ships having different console setups, ect.). Then after a year or so when people get built up link the two games together for some awesome pvp.

Assuming that CBS would allow that, it's probably way too expensive to maintain and develop 2 version of same game, I'm not saying it's impossible as City of Heroes/villains is essentially that but I wouldn't hold my breath as anything like that happening in the foreseeble future.

Yea... I don't see that happening. Also... would that mean replacing the Terran Taskforce rep with Prime Universe Taskforce rep?

How about a faction (with appropriate recruitment event) that lets us play Terran Empire toons?

The problem with "evil" factions is that they don't really work for MMOs as playble faction even the Sith in SWTOR aren't really evil.

It would just be another Romulan Republic situation just without a good justification as to "why would they join us", not mention that the Mirror Universe runs solely on being "stupid evil" so any "it's pragmatic to join forces" solution wouldn't work.

That's not a mirror universe thing, it's a bad writing thing. The prime universe has plently of stupid to go around.

This was already tried with the KDF and it failed. It was tried again with the Competitive queues and failed. Your idea has story-line merit, but not faction merit, and this has all been suggested before, and it will no doubt be suggested again.

At least the Mirror Universe in Discovery wasn't moustache twisting gotee evil. It really was a dark reflection of everything.

But that's more in line with the TOS version of the MU, not the game or DS9 versions of the MU.

    Are you sure about that?
Between "I'm gonna try to kill a human raised by Vulcans by myself and warn her just before", "Eating sentient species is awesome!", "You're from the Prime universe? Let me kill all the Empire leadership except me to cover that. No way this will create issues later", "So, you're the guy who understands how the mycelium network works? Good, now die because you're a turncoat, so this way, no-one will ever know how to use it again", "Na, I was a complete evil jerk all along and never had any character development! Make the Empire Great Again", "She's covering her not-daughter! Let's run head first in her line of fire while she's standing there menacingly!" and "Let's do nothing as that ship is about to blow us apart because it could be the Emperor locked out all control but it's really because we're dumb and our leadership sucks", the Empire seems as laughably bad as before.

Agents of Yesterday is a more direct parallel. TOS FED doesn't have a unique role in the universe but instead a unique backstory. A Terran mini-faction could just give that, allowing the player to essentially create their own Lorca but with a lasting presence in the prime universe. The character goes through an arc while the faction remains "stupid evil."

So, a stupid evil MU character that turns out to actually be smart and "good". After a life of acting evil just to survive, once given a chance they defect to the Prime Universe, give up their evil ways act and join the Feddy bears ?

Sounds like a certain character in a recent FE, I think it would be a quite fun and interesting story line playing a character that has no choice but to do evil deeds until finally managing to "escape".
    LTS and loving it.

While I suspect that this concept might be better served by a single-player RPG experience (Tyranny, Deus Ex, and KOTOR come to mind), it has come to my attention that an enterprising player has recreated Terran-flavored incarnations of 3 or 4 of the Federation intro missions...

This could prove interesting in terms of giving the writing team room to properly develop STO's Mirrorverse (and yes, this means avoiding the 'stupid evil' trap). For example, you might actually meet/work with Mirror!Leeta somewhere in that initial arc, leading to different dialogue in certain future missions (i.e. 'Jabberwocky'). Eventually, the arc could climax into what is essentially 'Mirror Incursion' in reverse with the PC's ship being part of the dreadnought's escort group... and taking advantage of the confusion to, shall we say, retire their captain and turn themselves in to Starfleet. Note, the tutorial episodes would imply that the PC has been planning this for some time, and the bridge officers are his co-conspirators; by way of precedent, consider that Mirror!Picard assembled such a cabal to seize the ISS Enterprise in IDW's 'Mirror Broken' series.

Speaking of 'Jabberwocky': after defeating the Cardassian ambush and the first group of Terran operators, take the time to turn right - there's one NPC you can speak to at the checkpoint for a bit of background flavor.

Admiral Leeta took her taskforce back in time and wiped out the Iconians in the past. Now whether or not that created an alternate Mirror Universe or not is anyone's guess.

Considering the Terrans went from "rebels against the Klingons/Cardassians just barely holding their own" to "a massive, powerful Terran Empire that can throw away 300+ vessels every hour in the Badlands Battle Zone," I'd say she did create an alternate Mirror Universe.

    "Eating sentient species is awesome!"

of course it is - that's why we eat them every day

newsflash - animals like dogs, cats, horses, pigs, cows, etc., all sentient; the term you were looking for is SAPIENT

Unless ‘Mirror Broken’ is part of the sto timeline

Don't Trek changes to the timeline in time travel more often than not replace the original timeline rather than create a new alternate one? That tends to be what happens most often on the shows.

Of all people, Janeway did the best impression of a MU officer that wasn't stupid evil, even if it was actually computer generated propaganda.

No idea what you are talking about. On a totally unrelated note: what would Mirror Tzenkethi, Lukari, Kentari and especially Deferi be? Could be interesting to explore.

Storywise it would be interesting for sure. Some missions would have problems with the chronological order though.

There's not only that one, also the guy sitting at the fountain is mirroring his counterpart on "our" Bajor, and I think there are even more.

I hate to say it, but the mirror universe was the only part about Disc I really actually liked a lot and wanted more about it, which is the opposite to Star Trek's mirror universe.

It would be fun if they made more Mirror/Terran content & visuals as storyline and event rewards for our existing characters, and of course the ability to add custom prefixes on ships.

you sure we arent already in a different version of the mirror universe... all the Fed caps do is kill and shoot and blow things up... war after war... battle after battle... we move and assimilate all into our Fed collective.

...And not making enough from that to keep operating at a respectable return on investment (ROI); which was why it was sunsetted, ergo probably not something other developers want to try again...

I could see a Klingon-Cardassian Alliance faction, with some Terrans that sided with that Alliance as part of it, because they are enemies of the Terran Empire like the Federation/Republic/Empire/Dominion Alliance but not a Terran Empire, because they don't do outright enemies of the F/R/E/D alliance.

I wouldn't want Cardassian's allied with KDF at all, there's also nothing about KDF which interests me whatsoever.

I was referring to the Mirror Klingon-Cardassian Alliance with Bajorans, Cardassians, Orion's, and Terrans who sided against their fellow Terrans, maybe a few other races.
