No, I’m looking forward to it. Not much interested in a Dominion faction but considering that all kind of progress sounds like a walk in the park I can enjoy it easily.

I really don’t think we needed yet more power creep but since it’s for free or just pocked change hip hip hooray cryptic.

    DS9 Revamp sounds awesome too!

So far it sounds meh at best. VERY limited faction that has one race to choose from and 6 episodes... Oh boy...

while i find the Cardassian playable race an interesting one, i'm still not certain on ViL. Some details are out in the open now, but a lot of details aren't yet shown and it doesn't help when the blog writer isn't clear enough on certain details. i've already caught two details masqurading as minor points that weren't clarified to my liking (where others have taken it on themselves just to argue with me instead). so there is some confusion on some of the ViL details.

I can't yet tell what to expect and at this point there are too few details that i'm just not interested in a starter pack at this point, obviously as time passes more is revealed, i can make the choice then.

Since there is no mk xiv loot drops in the game anywhere, and no indication that will change, and since your wrong anyway...

Probably didn't word that the best. Just trying to alleviate the fears of the guy about his gear getting left so far behind without spending tons of in game money for upgrades. The new green drops, probably even white, will surpass his purple mark 12, and that's almost a guarantee with an expansion that raises level cap and gear level, and if STO doesn't, it will be the first time in my remembrance of any mmo that has done so, from WoW to ultima online.
but lets say that they go against the grain of any modern mmo game design, and white/green drops are not better than his purple mark 12, there are a host of design problems with this. Firstly power creep with what is already present. New enemies in the expansion will have to pose a threat via toughness, hit points etc. to top end players in top end gear now...or they will just blow through content in a day and be like "that was it" On the other hand if new enemies are that powerful and new gear doesn't drop that's greater than his 12 purples (thus really and truly making him spend bookus of in game currency to upgrade his gear before even playing the new content)...and they keep one shotting these people, they will just quit. Neither of these scenarios of what the company wants.
That's why most games just go...new white common gear > = to the best old gear, it solves both problems, only leaving some people saying "I Worked so hard for my current gear, now it's gone", to which they are always told, that is the way of mmo's. -- Most people already know that, so it's not really that big of a fuss.

Except in STO you just apply a few upgrade tokens, just enough for 1 level increase. Done.

Your Mark XIV gear is already 93.3% of the way to being the new endgame gear.

There's no need to re-gear from scratch with a new set of endgame raids to earn gear through random boss drops. Just use those upgrade tokens.

Want to see how it plays out at this point - the 'expansion' storylines tend to be some of the tightest versus the one-off Feature Episodes too.

I'm looking forward to it myself. I can't be disappointed in something that hasn't even gone live yet.

Then again, I'm pretty easily entertained and not as picky as some I've seen on these forums.

The one thing that really bothers me about the new season is that they could not get Avery Brooks. I have always been wondering whatever happened to and when "The Sisko" would be coming back. This would be a prime opportunity to do so. And if it is a lack of funding that is the problem, then why doesn't the STO community put up a kickstarter or indiegogo and fund it?

If this just about "content"...Don't ask since you will get a bunch of noobs beaten you up or those die hard STO fans who are happy with any content. Same as AoY, a few new starter missions and a couple STFs. Very poor excuses for 'expansions' but hey, they are free so...

Free?! Yeah, no. Do you have any idea how much Epic gear I have!? And can you even fathom how much it will cost me to upgrade everything to Mk XV?! A typical Cryptic response will be to do the same sales pitch as they did for Delta Rising: you know, something about this being a good thing, because it forces you to choose, thus causing variety (watch for the podcast with a Dev telling you this; and remember, you heard it here first), and yada, yada, yada. Thing just is, they're instantly invalidating all of my gear, overnight... AGAIN.

Will I put up with it? I'm honestly not sure. After Delta Rising, I promised myself "Nie wieder!" And now Gecko is pulling the same sh*t all over again (and it's worse, actually, for items that aren't Epic yet, as the gap between XIV UR and XV Epic will be much larger than from XIII to XIV).

Come this Summer, I've planned to spend 700 Euro or so on a GTX 1080, to satisfy my smooth building needs in GTA V and/or Second Life. I'm not threatening to quit; but come June, I may well decide to do something for myself, and forego on spending hundreds of bucks on STO.

So, in case you don't see me any more one day, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!

The Dominion pack doesn't really do it for me. I was never a big fan of their ships or the Cardassian ships. The leveling missions with DS9 actors does interest me though. I just hope the missions won't be broke going out the door or break other stuff in the game that gets left to the side for "extended" periods of time.

Hard to be let down by something that isn't out yet.

Even harder when cryptic are consistent at not hitting the mark on delivery. They do get some good stuff from time to time but quality control is too slap dash and fixing issues is rarerly quick unless it affects the zenconomy.

6 missions sounds sparse but how long are said missions (renegades regret or suface tension?) how much time padding are in those (by that I mean how many map transitions and loading screens are going to be piled on rather than using a massive space map and porting us between sections instead of new map entirely) and of course how many cliche's are they going to pile in to the writing (just a handful or taking a page from jack o'niell's book)

Ship packs are not something I really care about anymore, I already have more than enough of those and would much rather see content to use them in. STO devs could have a word with their compatriots in the neverwinter office and take notes on how to make a campaign moderately interesting using dailies etc rather than buggy BZ's soon to die queues and marks which may or may not just get farmed via red alerts and events like MI or breach.

....Looking forward to it to be honest. Really excited to see the revamped DS9!

oh yeah. ive been waiting for a revamp ds9 for a long time. though the last revamp didnt do a bad job i have to say. but ever since the SB1 upgrade its been lacking.

but seriously. when is K7 and poor forgotten old SB 39 Sierra gonna get some love? they should make K7 in all its tribble filled TOS Glory with the SB 13/ TOS SB 1 assets (perhaps leaving the consoles to be 25th century to make it unique, that blend of old and new would be fun) and remind people that 39 even exists. and maybe make them actually useful starbases too?

obviously its not something that needs to be done right away of course, but it's something i would like to see at some point.

Unless you're a "GOTTA HAVE MAX DPS/EVERYTHING!!!!!" person, this is an over exaggeration. I still have alts in T5 and T5-U ships with Rare/VR MK XII gear that blow through the game just fine. Why? Because I too spent the time and resources to fully pimp out one or two characters to the max and to be honest, I don't see a difference significant enough to justify spending the time or funds to pimp out the rest of my alts. You don't need max level epic everything to be successful.

Precisely. I have many alts using MkXII VR gear and they do just fine. But like I said somewhere else, I'm also easy to please so I'm not going to pre-judge VIL until I've had a chance to play it. And no, I'm not a 'gotta have the latest shiny' type of person.

Until content outside higher STF's requires gear to be taken above mk12 doing so is a matter of choice.

Par for the course in mmo's that at somepoint your gear will lose relevance.

the way i look at it is there are only a few episodes BECAUSE of the voice acting. paying the actors vs paying the devs for more story. I'd have been much happer with 12 episodes vs 6 with voice. I'm just trying to justify the 129 pack. it's 5 ships, so basically 25 a pop..

Even for the current content, there is no reason to go above Mk XII VR. Elites might be the only reason, but their reward isn't worth bothering with.

I played all the way up through the Iconian war, in the freebie promotion Patrol Escort you get at level 40, in all MK XII VR gear. Remember, the level of the NPC's in STF's scales to the average party level. If you do the math, that's generally floating around the level 55 area.

Blast.. forgot to add 40 in there.
