The new changes to infinity boxes.

Got to say I really like the changes to the infinity boxes and hope those changes carry on to newer boxes. The upgrades to the Temporal science/destroyers as well was a welcome change. I like the direction you chose to go with on getting the older ships back up to top tier, instead of doing new boxes simply updating them for the infinity box was a good choice. The whole ultra rare ship thing needs to bite the dust in every way honestly, 1.5 billion credit ships is just insanity.

Good job Cryptic! Looking forward to whats next.

Agreed. The "Ultra Rare Ship packs" only had two options, so the ships with the lower drop rate became the most numerous and lowest valued. It was nice for the buyers, but if I had won one, I'd have been greatly annoyed.

Nice work, Cryptic, these are good changes to the ship packs, and the revised temporal ships are a welcome addition.

Now please add a T6 Recluse for the next Infinity Box. I'll be your friend!

It pays for the DS9 cast. Victory Is Lockboxes (and R & D packs).

1.5 billion for a ship is driven strictly by the player base. People who want them are willing to pay that much so people that have them charge that much. Cryptic does nothing but provide the ships in limited quantity, the players set the prices.

Agreed. Especially when its the very desirable ships like the T6 Temporal Connie.

The one ship I never really cared for, the fact that it has 3x Lt. Com boff seats is the only thing about it which even remotely interests me.

Just wanted to say I like the adjustments mentioned in regards to the upcoming Infinity Lock Boxes. In particular, " In essence, players of any faction that open an “Infinity Prize Pack: Tier 6 Ship” will be presented an option to choose ship packs named “Kelvin Timeline Starship” or “TOS Dreadnought Starship” (among the many other existing choices). Each of these new boxes may be traded to other players, and will reward a ship appropriate to their faction upon opening, rather than locking in the ship at the time that the Infinity Prize Pack is opened."

Also am really looking forward to T-6 versions of these ships, •Verne Temporal Science Vessel (T6) – Federation Only, •Qul’poH Temporal Science Vessel (T6) – Klingon Only, •Sui’Mor Temporal Science Vessel (T6) – Romulan Only & the Temporal Destroyers also. The T5 science versions were pretty uber, tank wise way back in the day when they 1st came out. So really looking forward to what a T6 version can do.

    Whatever. Infboxes are <yawn>

Separate boxes were more interesting, more event-worthy (not that Cryptic ever took advantage of that) and kept a more varied in-game economy.

I really like the ship change. I have a low level toon that I keep low level just for opening boxes. That way if I get weapons etc, they come out at MK II so I have a better (iow cheaper) chance of getting them to Epic. But getting a ship meant that it was locked into being a Fed ship since that's what the toon is.
    LTS and loving it.

A noob question on this topic. This change affects ALL infinity boxes right? The ones currently in our inventory and on the exchange? Cause i swear i've gotten a T6 box off an infinity one time that was missing ships and the answer i got from chat was it was an older version of the infinity box....

The change isn't live yet, that's tomorrow (at least for PC). Your T6 box should update to being able to grab the T6 all-faction box version once the patch goes through, barring bugs.

Hard to tell since you weren't clear in what you were talking about. The "ultra rare ships" are infinity box ships that regularly sold for 70 million. Not 1,500 million like promo ships which have nothing to do with infinity boxes.

One thing I would liked to have seen is the option for any captain to obtain any ship regardless of faction. So I could for example use the box my romulan has to obtain a ship for one of klink or feds, a double confirmation clicky should be enough to divert the morons away from getting the wrong ship.

Or to make the boxes account bound so that I could gather the various ones all in the account stash for use as and when. Seems if I want a klink based ship I'll still need to gamble on a klink.

Just checked the ones I have had stashed and other than contents being increased its the same rules to open as before.

They’ve gone one better. The reward has been changed to a box which contains the faction appropriate ship. This has the effect of eventually equalising the prices, meaning KDF players don’t have to pay through the nose.

    Really?

Because the boxes I checked on my klink, both old t5 and upgraded 2ndry types, showed the full list under details as before but using the box only showed the cross factions (like the APU or d'kora) and klink specific ones.

One better would have been the option to obtain (for example) klink only ships on my fed or rommie. But I couldn't.
  • echattyechatty Member Posts: 5,918 Arc User
You've never been able to get Klingon-only ships on Fed or Rom, nor Rom-only ships on Fed or Klingon. The updated ship box doesn't default to faction-specific until it's opened, where it would default upon opening the infinity box and getting the ship box before.
Now a LTS and loving it.

I know about not being able to do it.

But it's something that I wish they'd have gone that little bit further and added into the game rather than having people open infinity boxes on a specific race.

Or as my alternative suggestion, make the boxes account rather than character bound to again allow the prize to be an actual prize rather than dustmagnet in a bank slot.
  • rattler2rattler2 Member, Star Trek Online Moderator Posts: 58,664 Community Moderator
If I understand the Dev Blog on the changes to the Infinity Box correctly... its instances where we have Faction specific prize ships like the Kelvin ships that give us another box if we choose Kelvin ships. That other box is tradeable so you don't have to be on a KDF to get the D4x. Just trade that Kelvin box to the character you want it on and open.
    • Open Infinity Box on a Fed
    • Get Kelvin Choice Box
    • Trade to KDF
    • Get D4x
    • ???

I agree with all of that. However, the system also got very unwieldy and confusing to newer players, plus tons of inventory space getting lost for 7 different lockboxes (some of them doubles) during the drop event.

They had to switch to an all in one because we had so many lockboxes.

I mean... if you wanted something from a specific lockbox, you'd have to not only farm for those specific lockboxes, but know what is in EVERY lockbox we've ever had. And we have had...
    1. Cardassian (first ever)
    2. Ferengi
    3. Tholian
    4. Temporal
    5. Dominion
    6. Tal Shiar
    7. Elachi
    8. Voth
    9. Hirogen
    10. Undine
    11. Xindi-Amphibious
    12. Delta (First with T6 ships)
    13. Vaadwaur
    14. Xindi-Terrestrial
    15. Year of Hell
    16. Herald
    17. Mirror Universe
    18. Na'kuhl
    19. Kelvin Timeline
    20. Sphere Builder
    21. Undiscovered
    22. Privateer
    23. Son'a
    24. Tzenkethi
    25. Discovery

And that is the CURRENT up to date list of all lockboxes. And that list grows each time they add a lockbox. So now... which is more preferable? The all in one Infinity Box where you can select from the stuff that was in ALL these boxes? Or trying to remember what was in each and every box there ever was and pray you get the box you want, as well as pray that you get the item you want from said box?

People complain about ship prices on the exchange, but they are much, much lower than they used to be for any ships in the infinity box. Old-box ships used to be 400+ million, back when keys only sold for 2-3 million EC. Now they're 200-300 million and a get gets you 4 million plus.

That's a much nicer deal for buyers.
  • postagepaidpostagepaid Member Posts: 2,899 Arc User
Finally got my last 10 cardy lockboxes sold off last week for a couple of million ec so either someone was asleep or my typo wasn't a happy mistake.
