I went through my 8 toons last night and re-rolled almost every weapon (space and ground) that needed it or didnt meet my Mod preferences.
My thoughts:
1. Cost is fine. Both Dil and Salvage. It takes some but not an overly exorbitant amount.
2. There needs to be a "Salvage" button on the replicator that allows only Salvageable items to appear and allows mass Slavaging like the Recycle tab does.
3. Add Salvage as rewards to some Doff missions.
That's my list.
~Thanks
Only problem is they seem to have (or it feels like they have) lowered the drop rate of items that you can "salvage" on patrols and other such.
Do agree with adding salvage to DOFF missions as rewards would be a good idea, definitely.
It wouldnt surprise me at all if drop rates were poked at as it's something they appear to do quite often to push unpopular lockboxes. The tzenkethi & son'a boxes dropped like leaves in a storm but disco boxes are suspiciously scarce in comparison.
Just tried Re Engineering for the 1st time on one ship. Surprised by how inexpensive it was. I was only changing one [Mod] per weapon and I was only doing five weapons though. I can easily see where someone changing all the [Mods] on a weapon could rack up serious costs in a hurry. Overall, it is a decent enough compromise between my selecting the [Mod]s I want prior to crafting a weapon and Cryptic's need to monetize this game in order for it to remain profitable.

I disagree, because a month down the line, you'll be asking to be able to do more stuff with salvage because you've too much of it. Once this 'early rush' is done, Re-Engineering will be rarely used again.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
I've done a few engineering doff missions and the rewards came back without the salvage option.
As far as monetizing the game goes I've put far more into path of exile's supporter packs than I have into STO. I find that polish and gameplay encourages spending far more than money sinks and buggy content. Even their lockbox's "trash" content is of better quality/value.
It's okay, but very limited. Oh my main character I was only able to work on three items. Rest are locked and can't be modified. Very limiting... ground is the same. Can't modify anything.
I wanted to salvage some rep items I thought I'd be using but really just have sitting in the bank gathering dust and I couldn't do it. That made me sad but re-engineering isn't bad, just wish there were more modifiers on the weapons like Pen and such. It's certainly making junk items more useful when you get a bad fabrication for a new weapon and want to flip one modifier over.
Indeed, the re-engineering feature is pure genius. I've rerolled most of my stuff and tweaked it for lots and lots of extra crit damage. Getting the desired results didn't take long at all. It's entirely possible I just lucked out on the RNG, but the process was surprisingly quick, pain-free and affordable.
It will probably kill the crafted weps market, though; but I don't care about that.
While I really like the re-engineering system (a good space wep can set you back 100mil easily, whereas this method is dirt-cheap by comparison), I wish [Pen] were an option. But they probably don't want ppl around running [Pen]x4 and such.
And, just like auto-loot, we need an auto-salvage option! Or at the very least a way to batch-salvage.

Yeah individual salvaging is quite time consuming.
I would make two small changes. Either a separate button or tab in the recycle interface and add to an EC value to R&D Materials since you get salvage and R&D materials from salvaging. Some people (like me) don't craft all that much and don't want to bother with the exchange. Maybe 100 EC for common materials, 250 for uncommon, 500 for rare and 750 for very rare materials. If possible make it so only the materials from salvaging have an EC value. But materials from space, admiralty and DOFF missions still don't.

I would be surprised if they did, but it certainly isn't impossible. However, with lockboxes, I have a different experience, did get almost no Tzen box at all. I also don't seem to get less normal loot since reend came.
There could be a number of issues at hand here, like small sample size, random fluctuation, confirmation bias, ... As I said, it is not impossible that they tweak numbers here and there, and of course all that above may be on my side not on yours, but considering how some newly issued content's numbers are way unbalanced, I doubt they would start by turning so small a TRIBBLE in the clockwork.
My mother was an epohh and my father smelled of tulaberries
I think this new skill is for new players. I been playing since beta, have life account yadda yadda, and it is soo infrequent that I need a new gun or gear that this tool seems fairly useless. It just seems like it is another way to clutter up the game with skills that are already covered by other skills.....crafting, loot rewards.....another RNG resource sink that is trying to remove a large chunk of cuirrency from the game.....
Is it useful? Not for me.
I applaud them in trying to create fresh new content and skills.....but this is a no go for me....
Today we fight the GAULS......monstrous and HAIRY beyond reason.
I freaking love it!!...However..Id love to re-engineer some of the old borg 3 piece Space sets. Adapted Assimilated and Omega sets could be more fun for me as a sci player..Im not saying..All rep stuff..just some of the older ones.
The Assmiliated would be fun as an EPG deflectors and would make sense with the Assimilated Tractor beam (which is still hard to understand how much damage it does..)
Omega might be nice as a Drain/Epg Hybrid due to Tet Glider (not that that 2 piece add on is much)
It might be nice to make accidentally salvaged Item Retrievable..
so far I like it. in the long term, finding/crafting sone accx2 fro the low level, and as the toon gets the skills that make the acc mod obsolete, reroll it for CritD/H.. like it. only gripe is PLEASE let us reroll the special mods. does ANYONE use Thrust or snare??

Yeah so, How does this re-engineering thing work? I know it re-rolls the item stats, but what exactly is the effects for the stats?
Yeah, I've been away for a long while and it shows.......

SO If you have a Beam array thats say... [CrtD] [Acc] [CrtH] [Dmg]..You can now change those individual mods to come out with [CrtD]x4 with the use of Salvage and some dil..

Hello Kael,
I deeply appreciate what you did with the re-eng. I was finally able to get the equip I wanted. Thanks.
I am not sure but I think there may be a problem with the RNG. It seems to me that the chance to get
a specific mod depends on time. Maybe it's just an impression but I tried quite extensively. Let's say
you start with "mod_a", you re-eng get "mod_b" (not the one you want), you quickly re-eng and you end in
"mod_a" again, re-eng "mod_b" again and again.
I like the system, but wish I could auto salvage either on item pick-up or at the vendor. Having to confirm each and every item you salvage gets to be a pain after a while.
I like it, it should help bring down some overly priced items in the Auction House...
But I do wish it'd be able to be used on things other then just manufactured & loot items (would be nice to choose to get set bonuses aswell as just certain item enhancements by trading out a set piece) the tradeoff otherwise, as it sits so far, will drastically limit its actual usage after awhile...

Snare is good for a 360 weapon(turret or omni), since there's a trait that gives you a damage boost against enemies with control effects on them(such as Snare).
I don't like how the Re-engineer mechanic has bloated the prices on lockbox ship weapons. I'm seeing beam arrays with garbage mods(Acc/CrtHx2, CrtHx3, stuff like that) going for 10 mil fresh out of the lockbox, regardless of mark and quality. Didn't start seeing that until the day Re-Engineering was announced. Vaadwaur Polaron Emitter Arrays shot to the moon within the past few weeks, for example.
I love it. I managed to buy a massive stock of lockbox weapons prior to the price bloating....not for profit mind you it was so i could equip my alts with shiny stuff.
I would like it rolled out to rep and lobi stuff too please....id love to change the crth mods on my herald staff to crtd or dam. Same with my ttfdba.
This new system is most welcomed, but the trait(s) you are trying to replace need to be lock out of the RNG so you are not wasting dil/salavage just to get the same darned trait.
I would also LOVE to see this system expanded to be able to change weapon colors, i.e.: change orange phasers to blue, pink or whatever color you wanted.
Yeah with all the praise & promotion of it the slot machine definitely sucks down a lot, too much, of dilithium! After a few rinse & repeat cycles it definitely plays just like the other randomness coding.

Not sure I'd use it very much, but I have nothing against it. My other acct needs the ECs more than she needs to save up salvage.
Other than that it’s an alright addition to the game as far as I can see.
