AI of new enemies in SCYLLA AND CHARYBDIS mission

xuelxuel Member Posts: 169 Arc User
is it just me or do these Hur'q have a improved AI, no matter what i did short of reverse'n, they stayed on my rear. I'm flying a escort with pretty good turn rate. This was a refreshing fight to deal with as 90% of my dps is coming from forward weapons (dual beam banks with ommi's in back). I hope cryptic puts this AI on all other npc's.

Edit: These ships made me happy after all the boring fights we've had till now. Yes they were just swarmers but I am sure bigger and badder Hur'q ships are coming with improved AI and combat skills/abilities. Going to try this on my fed toon who has grav well and that ability like grav well from temporal boff skills (forgot name), and he's a broad sider with ap weapons (let loose the crits lol).

Yeah, now I know why Cryptic made the shield with more rear points and why the new Bajoran one shoots plasma after a shield goes down. All these ships with <4 rear weapons will have put some omnis on the front! :D

...oh, finally a dogfighting challenge for my bop and xiyfius who run literal rings around escort class mobs? (That said, my carriers can do that too, lol)

This makes me happy and eager to see some space battles with them

Try doing the mission in a Presidio, really hard to keep them in front

Yeah, I didn't really notice. I did the mission in a broadside Kelvin Dread.

I think I'll run it again in my Phantom.. sounds like it might be fun. :)

Given that they homed in on yours ships backend I suspect its less to do with improving the ai as it is paring it back to make them focus on a specific point no matter what.

A very specific one too given the area a vonph has and how many tried to stack up dead centre waiting for an oblivion gate.

Very much a one trick pony and the only thing that might make it hard is to fly a ship with a frontal focussed set of weapons.

Wonder how they'd cope if a ship was reversed into something like the station for a physical barrier.

They'll shoot you through the station.
Now a LTS and loving it.

I hadn't really noticed the AI, the Hur'q fighters just all died too quickly for me. I definitely do like the idea of smarter enemies, but only if they actually live long enough to use that wit.

My Scryer makes them regret getting close.

Wipe out the whole mob with reversed tractor and a cluster of Krenim torps.

      SCIENCE!!

Finally, a reason to use the mine-laying pattern my tac officer had just sitting around!

Really, that saved my proverbial bacon more than once during this fight. (Full disclosure: I still got blown up twice. There are a lot of swarmers, their tactical doctrine is sound, and I made the mistake of trying to fly this in my Sao Paulo the usual way, as a series of strafing runs. You can't strafe a Hur'q swarmer, at least not very well.)

BFAW and multiple-torp attacks make the mission a lot easier; there are a lot of swarmers, yes, but individually they're not that tough. You have to try to hit as many of them as possible for best results.

I may have to consider a grav well set up, turn their numbers against them

The only trouble I had was targeting now and then. Instead of TAB going for the targets ahead of me it picked up something behind me so my torps couldn't fire right away. BFAW though trashed everything in sight so they were also dying faster than I could do torps on a group.

I did okay in Tucker using deploy gravitic induction platform and a torp spread off the rear arc

My Risian Corvette did well, all cannons up front and turrets on the rear.

I would love to be able to mount a second nausican torpedo launcher to have front and rear nausican torpedos.

I just played merry havoc in my scibop, flinging out subpace booms and photonic shockwaves with a side of torpedo spread justice..

...then I took a pilot raptor with the itano circus, sorry microbarrage console and its double rocket spread (and the microrocket trait..set her up to match her visual weapons loadout for screenshottery - turretx4, dhc, 'rengi and kentari rocket) ... truely glorious, twisting and spinning while laying down fire and fury the likes Bajor has never seen

Even got my 200 ship kill accolade in the mission which was pretty awesome - I ought to get a statue on Qo'nos for that massacre

Have to say had no problems with them either, but i was using the winter event raider so was reversing a lot to be able to catch all those torpedos.

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles

I thought they were ridiculously easy given that Martok said they were the greatest enemy the Klingon Empire has ever faced. The Hur'q look like those from the Voyager episode Swarm. Are they the same? I don't remember the Hur'q at all, what series are they from?

To be fair, all we fought were fighter pet swarms... we have yet to see those bigger ships in action yet

We've also had a 1000years worth of tech evolution spurred on by various wars while they've been away.

Warp plasma suddenly gains in usefulness...
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
        Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

Worked like a charm for me... some GravPhotons with Spread 2 and GravWell 3 and they were bunched up like a litter of puppies ripe for plucking :)

Now if only our carrier AI worked this well with cannon based pets.

I hate swarmers. There is a difference between "challenging and fun" and "Challenging and annoying". Swarmers are annoying. Now, to be clear, I was able to beat them without respawning once. What makes them so annoying is when groups of them get on your 6, and seem to stay there forever. As noted above, why do our carrier pets have no tactics this effective? I usually run a cruiser with balanced firepower, so getting on my 6, you are NOT attacking a weak spot. If we are going to be facing more of these pests, I will redesign one of my ships specifically to fight them, because I can think of a lot of tactics that would work against them that I have not yet used. Still, i'd rather fight different enemies, because these things are annoying pests.

It’s gotta be my fave mission so far. I was using my bajoran interceptor and it felt like an actual space battle
