Getting peoples thoughts and opinion about Starship Mastery

Hi folks just wanted to gage other players thoughts about starship mastery, more importantly having to level individual ships for their traits across an account on each character.

I don't mind levelling the ship once, but wish it was an account unlock for all characters.

My answer says it all. I'm a very casual player and it doesn't bother me to fly the ship on alts to get the trait for them.
Now a LTS and loving it.

Would like them to be account-wide unlocks, the 'Account Reclaim' for traits is also a little barren on the Fed-side.

It gives me a reason to switch ships once in a while. And try the video game "battles"...which I need practice on.

Doesn't go far enough. Mastering a ship in less an hour is not encouraging you to 'master' the ship at all. There should a longer mastery track and more buffs. As for the traits, they are fine as they are. You still have to collect the ship AND 'master' it regardless.

It's admittedly pretty fun to run around in an entirely different ship than what my builds are normally used to, but that fun dies out kinda quick when I have to keep running Romulan Patrols for hours because I can't actually use the ship effectively when I only wanted the trait in the first place. I appreciate wanting to make me use the ship I bought, but I also hate it from a player perspective.

It gets sooo boring and slow when a ship has to run without any of its proper components just to unlock a trait so I can go back to only using it on one character, or possibly two.

It encourages me to play around with other ships that I might not otherwise consider using just to get that trait. I've got no issue investing an hour of my time playing the game I choose to play anyway. Account unlocks would be nice, but I'm not going to sweat it.

Honestly like the whole thing. Makes you have to play around with different ships, sometimes ends up finding you a diamond you never would have tried.
Only complaint is that some of the traits are rather... Weak

For one character, it's fine. Doing it on all of the characters is tedious monotony. Just like Admiralty.

I don't know how to fix it, I just know my least favorite parts of the game.

Back when we could solo Starbase 24, it didn't bother me at all, as I knew that I could always complete it whenever I want, without having to rely on others.

Now, I don't mind it too much, but it has turned a bit more of a tedious chore, as queues hardly pop, Battlezones don't give very much XP and doing patrols several times in a row is just silly.

But yes, as others already mentioned, this poll comes off as biased.

I really just don't bother buying ships for the traits only. The ship itself is useless to me and the trait labeled as a "must have" really isn't worth the price when I have no use for the ship it is locked to initially.

Agreed. You have 1 postive option, 1 neutral one and 3 negative ones. Umm...yeah no, this is not how you make a poll.

Indeed. And I'm starting to get tired of the 'zero effort for maximum reward' attitude of some people highlighted by this poll.

I'm honestly fine with mastery as it is now (level for the traits depending on the character's ship), but I have over 20 characters. I'm all about the account unlocks. Plus I'm lazy and greedy.

I agree. Ships are like characters themselves and should take more attention. I'd make ships have at the very least XP levels and some kind of item-based upgrade grid.

I would like to just buy the trait instead of the entire ship and vice versa (buy the ship and not the trait). It is also a pain in the butt to:
    1) Save your current ship load out
    2) Activate the new ship
    3) transfer all of your current ship equipment/consoles to the new ship
    4) Use the recycle function in replicator to get rid of that awful mk x equipment
    5) Load all your BOFFs that you need
    6) Adjust all the powers in your power tray to work with your key binds
    7) Adjust your preset power levels for the new ship
    8) Go out and level up the starship master to get the trait you need for 30+ minutes in Argala, N'Vak or Borg red alerts which offer a larger bonus XP than the others
    9) Go back to starbase to reload your old ship
    10) transfer ship equipment back to inventory (so that any consoles you did not have on your prior ship won't stay on the new ship)
    11) beam up to space and reload your ship layout.

Wow.. sure is a lot of work just to get a trait.. especially for something I just paid for. Please let us buy the trait only.

I went with other because although I think the mastery system is an okay idea, but one that was poorly executed. Example I could do lots of queue and story line missions -killing hundreds of ships and barely get anything towards the mastery, but if I run a dozen Argala patrols and master the ship completely.

30 minutes X 4 characters = 2 hours. Considering I have more than 4 characters, it takes even longer than that.

Since I'm a very casual player I only run the masteries on one toon at a time, on different days. And I do have more than four (many more) toons on my lifer acct. So yeah, just run them up when I feel like it, no hurry to do them all at once.

Azrael hit it on the nose. Yes, there are people who say you 'must have' this or that, there are very few must-haves for me. And ship mastery on every single character is not one of them.

A God damn brilliant way to get people to buy ships they don't really want to use.

Wish it was account wide unlock. I just 'love' running 8 toons through Borg RA every day (when I have time) just so I can then move to another ship and do it all over again! Tomorrow 3 toons get to start the Breen Xmas 2017 ship!

Alot of my alts are so bar behind, they just finished doing the Summer Event ship! :dizzy:
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

Don't mind flying the ships to get the trait on my 7 characters, only my main get all traits and the alts only the ones they need. Personally I would like that the ship you are flying has always the trait that the ships comes with equipped after you unlocked it. This should be in addition to the 4/5 traits people have. Because for me, it seems strange that you can just "unequip" a starship trait, it makes sense to me that you can use what you learned from a certain ship and take that to the next, but the thing that makes the starship unique can't be stripped away. Don't know how others feel about that.

It’s plain old grinding when you’re doing it individually across characters. There’s already so much to grind.

I paid for the ship so why is a feature locked behind a XP wall ?.
Once a ship and its mastery is unlocked it should be accessible by all characters within that affiliation. Cross faction ships and mastery should be accessible across the board.

The current system is nothing more than a cash grab... Infinity box #307 is where I got my first T6 ship and Im a bit salty that it and its mastery are behind another f***ing paywall for any future characters I wish to create. I'd like nothing more than a serious character for each faction but the thought of spending £300 -400 on each of them is putting me off.

Theres not a chance Im going to create another character other than for storage purposes.
