Ron Moore writing a new sci-fi series

From The Nerdist, via The Hollywood Reporter:

After spending years exploring the past in Outlander on Starz, veteran writer and producer Ronald D. Moore has booked a return trip to outer space. Apple has ordered Moore’s new space drama straight-to-series as part of its aggressive entrance into the realm of scripted original programming.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story, and revealed that the currently untitled series will take place in an alternate timeline where the space race never ended. Beyond that, we don’t really know much about it or even when it will take place within that new timeline. But between Moore’s stints on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the Battlestar Galactica reboot, there are certain things that we may be able to infer about his next project.

Moore’s strength isn’t simply writing compelling sci-fi stories, it’s his ability to create the complex and flawed characters that inhabit these fantastic worlds. Most of Battlestar Galactica's main players were damaged human beings who struggled with their circumstances and their inner demons against a science-fiction backdrop. Additionally, Moore and his creative collaborators used the Battlestar Galactica reboot as a way to offer commentary on modern issues in a way that didn’t feel forced. That’s a very useful skill to bring to the table for any drama series.

Apple hasn’t announced when Moore’s new series will begin production, but it is definitely on our radar.

Nu BSG was garbage so not all that interested.

I dunno, I think that evaluation's a matter of opinion, though they did pretty much jump-the-shark with the ending.

A lot of the problems with the later seasons were the result of executive meddling. E.g. they wanted less serialization and more standalone stories (for syndication). And then they were cancelled because Syfy lost its marbles (a lot of speculative fiction shows got canned by Syfy about that time, from Stargate Atlantis on down) and had to end the series before they were ready.

Hell, the whole "the Cylons have a plan" thing was some suit's idea: Moore said recently the Cylons never had a plan (beyond "destroy humanity", which didn't survive contact with the enemy), it was just something a studio exec thought would be cool to add to the titles.

Or, as my wife liked to put it, "And they had a Plan. But that didn't work too well, so they came up with another Plan. That one failed too. Now they're just Winging It."

DS9 and BSG were awesome, so I am looking forward to checking this out whenever it becomes available.

I enjoyed the rebooted BSG up until they did the New Caprica arc... that was where it jumped the shark for me. That arc just derailed the story so much that they never seemed to recover after that. Even after they got off that rock it just seemed like one bad idea after another. The finale was a huge let down though... nothing about it felt consistent and bordered on being nonsensical.

"Destroy Humanity" is a goal. A plan would describe a means of accomplishing it.

Is there a difference between Destroy Humanity and Destroy All Humans?
