Let's get back on topic, cosmetic customization on the actual weapon itself
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

In the space, if some effeminate fed will want to shoot pink phasers, why not. I'll stick with my green and red disruptors and teal plasma. On the ground we have enough nice weapons.
And to TR-116b , I would suggest that projectile weapons should have a smaller damage on the fabrications and robots and almost none on the holograms. The borg might have a greater resistance to physical damage.
Regardless of whether this thread is talking about how a ground gun looks or a space weapon is coloured (To be fair OP, that was the most vague title you could have chosen, and come on, beam colour is just as much customization as the gun itself), my vote is a yes.
I'd absolutely love having a proper stun phaser without all the random glowing bits, or change the gaudy barrel end of a plasma rifle to pretty much anything else that exists.
I'd also adore being able to give space guns a different beam colour, or use the half-beam half-projectile Kelvin Beam Emitters while still using an actually useful beam type, or make my 8 different set weapons a uniform visual style so it won't look so mishmashed.
And there isn't really a valid argument against it, aside from "I'm not interested." I mean, all I have hears from people is that it might be hard to tell what someone is using, which is already kinda ridiculous. As if somebody could memorize every visual for every weapon in the game and the different stats for each, how would it be any different from allowing people to use shield visuals or turn off EV suit visuals?
I love customization, to keep it sensible being able to kitbash your own rifle from unlocked parts would bring a unique touch to the weapon. Add something like a work bench to do it because the basic kitbash mechanics are already in game with the shipyard ship customization.

Definitely would not mind if they introduced a set of weapon visual slots like they did with the shield/deflector/engine. An i mean such a thing even if we wanted to look at impact on pvp could be disabled in pvp-tagged areas, or maybe an option that can be toggled-on/off that overrides such things computer side.
Where the idea of doing a customization feature for ground weapons, allowing you to use unlocked parts from various weapons, or merely just choosing what style you want to use from a drop down I think could be doable. Yet the idea of being able to create the look of your weapon via using unlocked parts is quite a bit more dev intensive, but we used to not have the ability to choose what kits parts were shown on our character via the tailor an instead it was based on the kit we used if i remember right.
As a weapon visual slots? Yes please!
But just a slot that only changes the weapon model, and leaves the colors of the energy beams and bolts unchanged.
And then we could have a second slot to change energy beam and bolt colors.

personally I think it would probably be closer to the system from most games where you'd have "weapon a" with the model and textures of "weapon b"
as far as I know weapon models are a single "unit" as far as the game in conserned and you can't change parts of them out outside of the 3D modelling tools the devs have.
I did this once myself. After a 20 minute battle I had a ringing in my ear. Actually, this is an old video. Maybe they tuned that sound down some since.
I'd be happy if we just got the ability to recolor the beams/bolts/glow colors for beams, cannons and torpedoes. Keep the weapon spec and model, just let me color the beams,...

the ability to change the sound fx of the 23c phasers would be a great addition, nice visual effect but... the sound fx is really annoying.

It would be interesting to add cosmetic options for certain things. Space gear would be infinitely too problematic, simply because of potential server strain. For cosmetic ground gear, though, I would love a system more like GR:FS, where you could customize individual sections of the weapon within set options (X amount of stocks, X amount of barrels, etc)
If I could, I would be making it so it looks as if I'm unleashing tasteless bran muffin torpedo's and 99% fat free Spaghetti strands from my beams array.

I think it would be fun. Of course the first, and really only thing I would want to customize is the lightning, bug zapper thing to be less openly flamboyant.

I voted yes..But I think it should be tied to the weapons youve made or purchased..Like the Rep armors..If I want the Temporal Defense AP look for my all Polaron beam boat, I should have the weapon set to earn the "costume"
As for some of the nicer Mission reward weapons or lock bock..those should be giving the option to "match" current beam color"

Or take it one further and have two slots one for the visual effect and other for colour.
Seems silly to oppose any idea that does nothing but give people more options.
