They did support other operating systems, for quite some time. They stopped because no one used them.
Well that and IOS seems to have stopped supporting gaming....

Despite the usual sycophants having their say, there are a number of things the Devs can do to improve the game. Most of them involve not pandering to the whiny, status-quo players (see above) who jump down your throat the moment you suggest anything that might make the game less casual (read: less tediously simple).

Maybe, at the end of a long day at work, contending with stressful customer interactions, too many projects due simultaneously, with no time to write progress reports, and endless demands from management to cut costs--we just want a casual game? Something that isn't like the day we just finished? Perhaps, for those of us that saw TOS in prime time, who got married the same year TNG premiered, and whose first children were born in the middle of DS9's run, this is all the complexity that can be managed in the 45-60 minutes we get to ourselves at the end of the day?

Is it possible that there are more of us than there are of you and your fellow travelers?

How are my suggestions bad? Simply put this is a good start. PVP is essential for a MMO to grow, if they wanna attract new people then they need to improve the PVP.

    1. Rewards for PVP
    2. Add new open space PVP zones with no PVE elements that people can also que up for
    3. New game modes, sandbox game mode to spawn NPC ships of various difficulties to create your own battles and fight against them yourselves, would be a great testing ground to see how many elite difficulty ships you can go up against
    4. Option to voice over content with Forge created missions so people who create the missions can do voice overs themselves, voice overs with texts makes the game far more immersive, sitting there to read it is boring.
    5. Cardassia Prime? Betazed? There are many major star trek races and we can't even visit their home worlds.

    mneme0 suggestions

    1. New places and more missions, not new mechanics, lockboxes and new ships and new stuff to grind for.

PvP kills every game period! It's been the same in every game. It ends up becoming a hate and bile viled experience full of trolls. And on top of that, it makes the 'P2W' claimers come out in force. The reason I like this game so much is because there is literally no PvP, forced or otherwise. There's also no appetite from players for PvP matches at all. Have you actually watched the numbers queueing for the current PvP?? There's barely anyone that plays it. And finally there are (or were) EC rewards for PvP matches.

For sandbox games, just make them in the Foundry.

As for personal VO, well it will still have to be vetted before publication, and I shouldn't have to tell you why
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

    My suggestions are pretty good.

PVP has never gone over well in the game, and youa re asking the devs to allocate more resoureces that what, 2% of the player base wants? every other criticism you pointed out is fall false. they HAVE increased the graphics in the game with the new lighting scheme, they are adding new content, at least to the fed side with adding Levar burton to several of the early episodes. you want a sandbox, thats the Foundry.

as someone else said, Content. they need a new sector where the system are explorable i don't mean pop in scan done. i mean a system that is RNG.. pop in, RNG how many planets, asteroid belts, that sort of thing RNG is there life? RNG is there something interesting like dilithium? is there intelligent life? is there some threat to the system? all of things could easily be programmed where you need to explore, scan, maybe tractor asteroids out the a collision with a planet, observe withotu first contact. i could go on and on. but each system could (and should) take HOURS to complete

Had that when the game started - the Genesis System, they called it. You'd go into an Exploration Zone, and these "procedurally-generated" planets would come into existence. Except that given the system limitations, they became a series of "find these five objects/kill these five enemy groups", and on planetside missions, the objects/enemies would frequently spawn underground. (There's nothing in the game currently that's half as frustrating as watching your entire away team blasting pointlessly at the ground, as the Klingons who spawned beneath it shoot at them and you with impunity because the surface only exists in one direction.)

When the Genesis System was removed, there were surprisingly few complaints. And there are few who want to see it return, either. Even with upgraded systems like No Man's Sky has, procedurally-generated planets tend to be, shall we say, rather less than entertaining.

(Oh, and unless you've done coding yourself, please don't say unequivocally that programming anything would be "easy".)

Specializations: rendered it impossible to develop a basic build with less than 160 hours of PvE grind. You simply can't avoid it, this creates a significant time/attention barrier for even really aggressive players, and completely locks out the casual types that don't want to grind for forty hours a week for hte next month to get a match after three to six hours of waiting, t hat will last two minutes and result in a 15/0 or 15/1 result.

Examined as a case of "Rule of natural consequences" whre you're looking for motives based on actions and results, Cryptic's development staff has been on a long-term crusade to drive out anyone who PvP's and isn't an exploitive troll with too much time on their hands and mommy's credit-card on the desk beside them.

Even before spec...if you were not spending real cash, you needed well over 200 hours of grind to make a basic PvP ship. So really, the spec didn't change that much. But yes, high cost of entry is a pretty big issue with PvP now...and for a while actually.

There was a time where PvP didn't have a high cost to entry, just a player high skill requirement. Now it has both, and that's the worst case scenario for PvP basically.

Unfortunately, the gear creep is basically the way to keep the players playing and the servers running, so it is not going to go away, and it can probably not taken out of PvP either.

which is also based off an outdated franchise (any pre-TRIBBLE).

sto is an outdated game, which is also based off an outdated franchise (any pre-TRIBBLE). i think you people ask too much, and try too squeeze too much out of this tired old dog.

the future is either star trek 2, or sto will become as champions online. not truly abandoned, but not alive either to receive any significant overhaul, and will be kept "alive" by a few die-hards and 1-week casuals.

ironically, when there's nothing left to do once sto has reached "CO" popularity, people will start doing pvp out of boredom.

Outdated Franchise? Boy are you wrong on that end!

While ST: Discovery is the current version of Star Trek out there (besides the Kelvin Timeline movies), It is by no means the only source of star trek that should matter. There are people out there that want to continue the timeline that TNG, Voyager and DS9 exist in. The books do cover that, but STO also does that, as an alternative universe to the novels.

Right now, STO is covering longstanding, open ended questions about the franchise that were left open and connected portions of the franchise that we figured would go unanswered.

    - The mysterious aliens in the 22nd century whom were blowing up Earth's communication relays. (revealed to be the Elachi)
    - The overall events of the Temporal cold war
    - The parasites that were deemed to be a threat to Starfleet command and attemtping a takeover of sorts. (The Bluegill)
    - The solanogen based organisms that were experimenting with the crew of the Enterprise-D (the solanae)
    - The overall identity of the Tzenkethi and the Iconians, 2 of species mentioned but never seen on screen
    - The Klingon problem of how they managed to get their ridges back
    - The fate of the Vaadwaur after Voyager left them

The Gamma Quadrant remains the last place that players cannot travel through outside of missions and with the upcoming expansion that has a big push towards the Dominion, this will likely be the point we finally get to travel there.

There's also the potential to expand the game further thanks to discovery and their introduction of a new version of Klingons. If Discovery doesn't cover how they can look so different from say the ridged Klingons or the ridgeless Klingons from TOS, STO could take a crack at it.

If you want to improve the game you should stop gating everything behind a ridiculous paywall. Anyway this will be my last post because i honestly don't care enough about this game or the stupid business model to waste my time any longer. The game has no ambition beyond milking the "whales".
  • casualstocasualsto Member Posts: 672 Arc User
The paywall keeps the game running. And since you can obtain the payable stuff via ingame effort, you re not reasonable and misleading other.

dont mean to be harsh, but sto is lackluster compared to everything else out there right now. it better shape up, or become the next champions online.
So then you're only here to act smug and superior to those of us who don't know any better? Hipsters will indeed be hipsters, won't they? One more thing, why are YOU not off playing those "better games"? Couldn't hack being around the Big Kids?

The game could use a more up to date or new game engine and investors and more developers and and and.

Don't think its going to happen.

I guess it will more or less continue on the same foot as long as there are people buying zen.

Or until someone buys out the right company and takes the game in a completely different direction it's been going. At that point I'd think you'd see a shutdown and whole new game.

This was point out at before the Lunch of the game Yes game engine was problem !!
1# The biggest problem with game is speed at witch ships move on map it's game breaking!!
mainly escorts speed are jacked to OP levels. This why PVP fails in that part
2# Not properly fitting the ship before release with basic gear / basic gear like tractor beams are locked be hide crew skills
    this was a mistake!
furthermore ship class are broken aka escorts class stop with flipping jacked OP escorts!
when developers removed ships crew count It maid all escorts OP thus u can't scratch escorts...
3# PVP is KING we waited far too long for PVP to be properly fixed I blame the developers from day one for this Problem
whales spend money for PVP not for 3ed rate TRIBBLE missions that waste are time.

The game is so water down a 6 year old can play it

I feel for my money spent on this game I been swindled robbed and taken advantage of mainly gambling lock boxes.
