Stuck in Cover Shield

My character gets stuck in the cover shield deployed by my BOFF.
This has happened several times already.
Cannot get out until shield disappears or if BOFF dies

Have you tried /stuck or /unstick? That usually takes care of the problem.

yes. not at that time (when I got the screenshot) but have tried that before in another time I was stuck in the covershield but didn't work (and its /unstuck I tried, not /unstick - will also try that next time)

It can happen when the shield spawns on top of you, I've done it couple times on myself (my main is an engineer), I think the best way to avoid it is to not stand in from of the boff with ability to make the shield (as the shield can only be made directly in front of the character making it or at least that's how the player version works).

I can understand that is a workaround - but it is still a glitch/bug. I submitted this report to arc support - and they told me to submit it here. At least, I'm hoping this is the https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline/#/categories they mean.

I don’t give Boffs that ability for that reason. It’s not like they actually use it for cover anyway. My away team consists of all engineers except one science and they all have fabrications and mines.

All my away teams have two Eng, and none of them have cover shield, the main reason being that it is a worthless skill for a BoFF. They spam it at random and never use it for taking cover.

If you decide to leave cover shield on your BoFFs, they will spawn it in places where it's not only not needed/wanted, but can be a real pain. If /stuck doesn't work, wait for the cooldown and manually have your BoFF spawn a new one, the old one disappears and you are no longer stuck in it.

Yea I get a boff with covershield and I go straight to pick up a training manual to get rid of it. Do what arionisa said, wait for the cooldown to go off on it and set it manually I even go so far as to set that boff a rally point away from me before I drop the shield. The second it spawns the one your stuck in disappears and your good to go.

thanks for the hints - so it seems cover shield really is glitchy. I also use 3 ENG 1 SCI (healbot) but maybe should train my ENG boffs on something other than cover shield. Yeah it doesn't seem to be a great skill (when I do use it as cover - I can't fire over/through it).

Yeah, I was advised never to give the Cover Shield ability to BOFFs when I started playing. I thought it was info passed along to everyone.

might be good advise. However, not giving it to BOFFs, that doesn't change the fact that the skill IS glitchy. and after submitting my ticket, support asked me to post here.

Thanks for the help though - Imma bringing my BOFFs to a trainer LOL

If you play as an Eng, cover shield does come in handy sometimes. For example, the last boss fight in the mission where you rescue Martok. I got tired of it after numerous runs so I would drop a turret and mortar, back into the space between some boxes and drop a cover shield, then just kick back and relax. Even without firing a shot, the boss always aggroed on me so he would stand there beating on my cover shield while my away team and the NPCs wasted him. Once he died, I'd just turn around and drop another so I could go collect the drops.....of course that only works if your BoFFs can handle the enemy without you

Another cover shield use, there is a Doff you can get that adds resistance to cover shield so anyone within a certain distance of it gets a resistance. Drop the shield and crouch in front of it instead of behind it, you can still fight but you are also getting the buff from the cover shield.

Of course that's ways that you can use it, BoFFs and cover shield are never a good combo.

Well, I was told BOFFs tend to spawn cover shields without rhyme or reason....it is just another skill that triggers on a timer when attacked. So...cover shield can end up anywhere and block, trap or hem in you or your crew or...anything, really.
