New Discovery ships to be super OP?

So if ST:D bombs as many think it will, will the ships in STO be made ridiculously OP to sell better? Assuming we get them, which I think is likely.

Canon ships are often slightly under powered or feature awkward BOFF set-ups that are difficult to leverage. Deliberately, I would assume, so people don't just grab an on-screen favorite and never even look at purchasing any of the other ships Cryptic is trying to sell. I don't see that pattern changing, regardless of Discovery's level of first-season success.

Eh. They'd likely make the ships a lobi or lockbox thing, and an okay one at that, like the Kelvin Dread or the Constitution. It's not on the level of recognition that the Constitution has, but it's still new and on tv right now, so it'll likely be put into a hard to obtain place as it will inevitably be popular.

I doubt it will be any more or less powerful than what we already have, however.

If they happen to come out in Cryptic's "Miracle Worker" ship phase, I don't see how they could be OP. ;)

The Shenzou doesn't look too bad, but Discovery is hideous.

Shenzhou was completely outmatched from the start, pretty much confirms a t2 to t4 appearance and maybe a t6 cryptic look on the ship. It was noted during the episode when the ship was attacked that a secondary tactical station was damaged, it suggests the Shenzhou has at least 2 tactical stations, possibly an escort.

i saw a few Klingon raiders as well, they look a bit like those Goa'uld death gliders from certain angles.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

I really won't be looking forward to the Discovery ship as it looks absolutely awful, but I won't be buying it all the same.

Well, as a counterpoint to that, the T6 Vengeance utterly trashed the T6 Kelvin Enterprise and only failed to win thanks to BOff Scotty's unique Engi Viral Matrix IV and Spock's unique (and haaaaaaaxed) Transport Warhead IV Command version ability that was so OP it crippled the Vengeance in one activation.
All despite both ships being T6 and with competent captains.

Marcus and Khan were so enraged by both hax Khan perma-banned Marcus for not having any Engi, Tac or Sci Team to counter them, and screamed bloody murder before going for Ramming Speed.

The USS Shenzhou was considered old by 2249. Discovery starts off in 2256.

We will see with the Discovery Lockbox and Lobi Store additions on October 3rd. ;)

All I have to say to this and the fact that ST:D is prequel. If they put the ships in, then all we're looking at is...

Nah. They'll be rubbish. If The Shenzou is anything to go by, they still haven't fixed critical bridge consoles blowing up and taking the faces off the officers using them when the ship takes damage elsewhere. Get in a fight? Console blows up, highly trained bridge officer loses their face. Have a power fluctuation due to tribbles/warp core/plasma conduits/Q being mean? Console blows up, highly trained bridge officer loses their face. Captain is bored because no-one lost their face recently? Presses a button, console blows up, highly trained bridge officer loses their face.

I have concluded Star Trek has a problem with faces and that all highly trained bridge officers should be wearing kevlar balaclavas.

I don't think the ships will be OP. I think the Doffs will be OP if/when they release them. Maybe even Boffs.

The pilot maneuvers and Vulcan traits could be introduced. Possibly, even more EV suits for solo space missions. Who knows?

Nothing in STO has ever been (intentionally) "super OP" and the last season with its "balance pass" made very clear Cryptic is committed to everything being equally good.

Now, whether something will turn out OP by accident, is of course impossible to guess.

If Star Trek Online catches more of an TRIBBLE than the chlamydia of the uniforms, I will avoid it like the plague.

but the ships & weapons are the best part of it all

Actually, the Romulans were initially designed to be OP, as a means of drawing attention to them. So yes, they have, and still can design things to be intentionally OP at first.

Untrue. Some things are neither particularly good nor bad; in fact, I'd say most ships fall into that category.

Everything is good and bad. This really depends what setup you're running. Or if you're willing to see what you can come up with build wise. Sometimes, you have to go, "Hmm.. that's not bad. Now.. what can I do to make it work?"

The thing here, depending on the build, some can be more PvP oriented than PvE, and vice versa.
