Yeah, for the standard Starfleet-issued ships, you can't turn off the prefix. The non-Starfleet ships, however, you can. Plus there are Mirrorverse ships that come with the I.S.S. prefix (which you can change to U.S.S. if you want).
Space Barbie Extraordinaire. Got a question about Space Barbie? Just ask.

    Things I want in STO:

    1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
    2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
    3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
    4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
    5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
    6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
    7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.
    8) Independent Faction, because yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me!

Yup. Sure do. Forking around in the Tailor can be entertaining. Someone has a thread in these forums about how to make a Kaminoan from Star Wars using the Character Creator. So I did the copy/paste thing and 'Bob's yer Uncle'. Had a blast seeing how close I could get them to the Kaminoans seen in the animated Star Wars:The Clone Wars series. Surprised at how closely they matched. Wound up making an entire crew of them. The comments other players made when I used them were quite gratifying.

Mooncrystalpower's Fed char is just about dead-frickin'-on for Meatball Head. She(?) was in ESD one night and I just had to show her char to my daughter. Who is a huuge anime fan. I am one of those dads who knows far far more about the Negaverse than he really wants to, lol. Saw someone who had the Joker from Batman:The Animated Series once on DS9. It was again just about dead-frickin'-on. Started looking around for Harley Quinn and kept hearing Mark Hamill's voice in my head for the rest of the session.

So yeah, Space Barbie can be a fun sideline to game play. I do it from time to time whenever I get bored with how my chars look. I also do Space Barbie in the Ship Tailor. Except there I don't call it 'Space Barbie'.

I refer to it by its true name - 'Action Figure Center'. lol

"Action Figure Center" works too! ^^

And yes, I have to say that I have a lot of respect, and admire the creativity of folks doing the cosplays and what not. I once saw someone as the Tick at Starfleet academy!

Another thing I am trying with "aliens" are your "Martians" one sees in the retro future space movies of the 1950s and 60s. Antennae, green skin, and some TOS style equips go a good way toward that look.
Resident TOS, G.I. Joe, Transformers and hair metal fangirl.

And knowing is half the battle!

    21 'til I die!

Yes, but only when I get bored of how they look
While I'm not always switching stuff out, I do tweak the uniforms of my character and bridge officers until I am pleased. I also run uniform codes from crew to crew. As an example, My current "main" captain of the good ship Merkava is from the 23rd century and has a military background, so she and her crew use the Enterprise coat, Mercenary 1 belt, Pannels and pockets pants (tucked low) into combat boots. All colored a uniform blue-black/gray save for the white undershit and piping along the shoulders, and a Sagittarius Operations patch on the chest. The other officers use the same setup, with variations only in their respective Sagittarius patches for tactical, ops and science. The colors of the uniforms are identical across everyone.

There's few other things tossed in, since I focus on keeping it simple. Everyone has the full holographic "doctor" arm gear that looks vaguely like a Mass Effect omnitool, all in bright cyan. They also have the Intel wrist computer on the other arm. Some wear simple chest rigs (my captain wears the basic Engineer straps) and the science officers wear an equipment plate on their thigh. The tacs get a Merc belt with more grenades.

My captain wears the rank markings of a Captain, with Tarsi and T'Met wearing Commander pips, and everyone else with Lt. Commander stripes. A bit heavy on the rank, but they've seen a lot of action.

Sounds kind of boring, but it actually makes the Captain and crew stand out when standing next to all the strange costumes a lot of crews wear.

EDIT: Oh, and I changed everyone's default stance to either "Stern" or "Thoughtful." So everyone looks like they're maintaining proper military decorum while in uniform.
"So you walk eternally through the shadow realms, standing against evil where all others falter. May your thirst for retribution never quench, may the blood on your sword never dry, and may we never need you again."

We can't have nice things like balance because people exploit and cheat and then tell their buddies about exploits and cheats. This causes the Devs to drop the nerf hammer. Next, all the exploiters and cheaters come in here and complain about how "unfair it is" they can no longer exploit and cheat.

My crew wearing a blue necktie instead of a red one has exactly zero impact on gameplay.

changing your character/Boff/ship appearance has zero impact on balance, it is merely a cosmetic change.

Eh, content doesn't have to be easy for Space Barbie, it just has to award clothes. :D
(or ship parts with visual effects, or ships)

And heck, even when it's not a common thing, almost every game has some sort of cosmetic that's given for a hard achievement, or a raid, or whatever (thinking about WoW raid-drop mounts, or the time-lost protodrake; etc)

Costumes are a big seller in most f2p MMOs, games like Overwatch & LoL have skins to collect, etc, etc, etc - cosmetics/dressing up/"Barbie" is a pretty big focus for a lot of players. Doesn't make the games trivial or the content pointless. /shrug

Heh, main reason I got the Intelligence Uniforms was for the wrist computer. It's nice to see when a Romulan character is tapping their wrist to beam out, they're ACTUALLY tapping something. At least the KDF has it made with the variety of bracers they can wear.

The Intel Uniform did yield some nice surprises in terms of uniforms, though.

The Intel Long coat works wonderfully with Zeus when with white as the primary color and gold as the secondary. Definitely looks regal and godlike.

The short version and pants work really well on my Romulan Alien R'eal. The primary color is black, secondary is green, and the accoutrements (piping and buckling) are gold. Coupled with the Romulan Fleet Admiral Slim shoulder pads in the same color scheme, the effect is quite nice.

I also tend to favor the Mirrorverse Enterprise/Odyssey/Sierra/Jupiter and the Vaadwaur uniforms.

Aside from the obvious reasons, I use the Mirrorverse uniforms in different characters and BOFFs when the imaginary backstory for them calls for it. Hriwa, for example is my Mirrorverse Caitian character, so her uniform is a Mirror uniform. Berek the Reaper, my Ferengi privateer, has the Enterprise belt/knife combo over his Mercenary garb, and two of his BOFFs wear mirror uniform tops, one the Enterprise and one the TOS.

I initially got the Vaadwaur uniforms for my Frost Giant Space Wizard because I thought it would look cool (no pun intended) in blue and white. I now make sure to get the Vaadwaur uniforms for all my KDF characters for the express purpose of using the helmet and facemask on the KDF Android BOFF. My reasoning is based in my headcanon; In the KDF, the Android programs were not aimed at creating sentient artificial intelligence, but war machines capable of independent (within reason) thought and action. They do not have a humanoid appearance. They were designed to go in, conquer an area, and take damage to prevent unnecessary loss of life. The Empire, long used to the idea of a glorious death in battle, did not like the idea of denying warriors a noble death in this fashion, but too much money had been invested in the project to just scrap it. Therefore, the machines were reprogrammed with a higher degree of intelligence and autonomy and assigned to KDF captains who earned them.

I will try a new costume when it comes out and try to mix and match the new outfit.

Need to borrow this poll to ask a question. In tribble when I try the tailor it seem you can mix and match some reputation costumes. Does this apply to holodeck too or a bug in tribble? I hope it not a bug. It for the terran, lukari and duelist(wargames). I don't have those reputation costume have iconian. Under uniform in tribble you can wear a terran top with lukari pants, duelist shoes and mix the accessories. If it on holodeck looks like cryptic sneek one pass us.

I suppose I play it. Once in a while I tweak my uniform in the editor, but my crew pretty much wears standard Odyssey.

In the Foundry costume editor, on the other hand, I make lots of models. And for the major characters I tweak every last detail, even for things it's likely nobody but me will ever notice.

I spend A LOT of time on my characters on not just the clothes but tweaking and fine-tuning faces and body shapes and I pretty much always go with themed builds over optimal DPS builds, which means my feds use exclusively Phasers, Romulan Plasma for my Rom and Disruptors for my KDF.

I love playing Space Barbies. Funny, but I didn't even know the name for it until a couple weeks ago. I always called it "in-game cosplay." Anyway, I like to customize my ships a little, but I really go nuts with my captains and Boffs. I make some based on celebrities and movie characters, and others based on themes. For example, I have a Na'vi captain, one based on JLaw's Mystique, Bruce Campbell, and Ghost in the Shell. My current project is a Caitian captain and crew modeled after the look of the 19th century British Royal Navy.
I think all told, I've spent more time at the tailor than flying around in space. I get OCD about little uniform details, and am constantly making changes. Maybe it's the artist in me, but trying to render a face and costume likeness out of a fixed number of elements is as much of a fun challenge as the STF missions.

Well, as promised (in my head, anyway), here's my Ferengi Privateer and his crew:

Berek the Reaper (the Captain) - What he lacks in business skills (those traits went to his sister), he more than makes up for in tactical genius. He turned his talents into an art form, and between him and his sister, he has amassed a small fortune, a good-sized fleet of ships, and a loyal crew to command them.

      RSZSUq5.jpg

      **************************************************************

Azhda (Berek's sister) - Despite having a brilliant financial mind, Azhda just couldn't cut it in the world of Ferengi Business. The reason? Integrity. She's too honest for Ferengi business practices and left Ferenginar, teaming up with Berek.

      pJhZKVW.jpg

      **************************************************************

Avery Evangelina Langtree - A human con artist, she and her partner Callie teamed up with Berek after a competing job. When they were trapped, he had the opportunity to leave them there and escape scot free, but he saved them, earning the scar on his face in the process.

      xv8zp4k.jpg

Callie Josephine McKinney - A human con artist often partnered with Avery.

      I3inwsX.jpg

      **************************************************************

Darayr Nisoroe - A Trill who loves experimenting with gadgetry, she was practically disowned by her family after being rejected as a host. Berek took her in, gave her a bunk and a holographic workshop, and lets her go to town. He won't put her in danger, though, so she stays on the ship if there's a chance of combat on an away mission.

      2BOs3Hz.jpg

      **************************************************************

Ghel - A young Ferengi woman who always dreamed of being a pilot. She left Ferenginar and enrolled in Starfleet Academy, doing quite well. However, she was accused of cheating by her professors and, with no evidence to clear her name, was expelled. In truth, her roommate framed her to get ahead at the Academy, but Ghel cannot prove this. Berek took her under his wing and let her strap into the controls, and he hasn't regretted it since.

      JLca1MK.jpg

      **************************************************************

Glitchy - Picked up during a scavenge job on a recent battle, Glitchy is a Klingon Defense Force Android. Originally commissioned as a tactical officer on the IKS Ga'vaht, The entire crew died in battle against the Federation. Glitchy was found with part of his positronic network fused and charred, but with the experimentations of both Darayr and Nipos, Glitchy was returned to a functional state. Repairs and tweaks are still ongoing (hence the name Glitch), but Glitchy is now a loyal bodyguard, seeing the crew as her charges.

Kahroht - Once a loyal KDF officer, Kahroht was stripped of rank and formally charged with treason after refusing to commit mass murder. Her accuser was her captain, a member of the now-defunct House of Torg, who was taking bribes to do the dirty work of the Orion Syndicate. Seeing no other option, Kahroht fled custody, stole the captain's DujHod Chariot, and fled to unaligned space. After drifting from planet to planet for a while, she met Berek. He offered her a position on his crew and she accepted.

Kinno Inyadh - A former Bajoran priest who felt the lure of the secular, Inyadh is a man who would best be described as a libertine. He drinks, laughs, and enjoys life, befriending nearly everyone he comes across. He also has the rare talent of getting people to trust him even if they just met, which makes him perfect as the face of the group. The one who makes the negotiations happen and makes sure everyone is happy.

Nipos Kezazbla - A Betazed former doctor, his ability to practice medicine was first hindered by his failing body, and then by his own dangerous experimentation. Suffering from a rare condition that causes the body to literally waste away, Nipos started researching a cure. When the cure was deemed unattainable in the time he had left, he decided to play God and extend his own life. Injecting himself with highly modified Borg nanotechnology, he had them rebuild his body with a cybernetic shell, slowly transforming his body from a feeble, dying man to a body of metal and polymers, perfectly fused with his neural network and living tissue. In essence, he turned himself into a Borg Drone, but without the link to the Collective or many of the benefits. He was still his own person, but with a new body. Because of this, his medical license was revoked and he was to go to jail for the rest of his life. Not willing to risk his work on the cure, he escaped and fled Betazed, taking his research with him. He booked passage with Berek at one point, and basically never left.

Parumullo - A Pakled female, Parumullo was never taken seriously by her own society or others. The only person who ever respected her for who she was was Kinno Inyadh, for whom she repaired an EPS relay on the fly and improved its capabilities. When Inyadh joined Berek's crew, he recommended Parumullo for the job of shipboard engineer, and that's how she got with Berek's crew

Quondpgoxekeijirepid (just call her Quon) - Quon is a thief. With agile fingers, a small stature, and the ability to blend into a crowd, Quon grew up on Drozana Station, knowing to stay out of the lower levels and taking from the occasional visitor, mainly just to test her skills. It was Berek she was testing her skills on one day when he wasn't having it. He followed her back to her hideout and confronted her. Knowing that her life was going nowhere, as the Belen was just going to nickle-and-dime her to keep her working in the hopes of being able to quit, Berek instead offered her a job on his crew as a thief. He only had two rules: Do not steal from crew. Do not steal from clients. Everyone else was fair game and she could keep whatever she filched. Needless to say, she accepted.

Saamek - A half-Vulcan/half-Romulan mercenary, Saamek is useful when it comes to making things happen when nobody else can. Whether it's a prisoner resisting being questioned or a client welching on a deal, Saamek is the guy who you go to when all other methods have failed.

      Oh very much so.

Honestly, though, as soon as I saw the Privateer Lockbox, the seed was planted in my brain. I went home that night, rolled up a Ferengi character, got him to level 12, then used Research Assignments to boost him up in level. I got a bit too lucky, though. I was aiming for just being able to access the Admiralty, but in eight hours (two rounds of Research Assignments), I boosted him up to Fleet Admiral and three additional skill points beyond that.

After that, it was a matter of using some of my keys to open Infinity and Privateer lockboxes, gaining me a lot of stuff, including Infinity ships and a couple of Miradorns. Traded the Miradorn for a Husnock, got my other ships, canned the non T5U ships, and went to town getting Lobi gear and ships (still have over 12K Lobi), good Space and Ground Equipment, all Very Rare BOFFs (a habit of mine on nearly all characters), and then spent time crafting the perfect look for Berek and his crew.

And yes, I am VERY much looking forward to this new Promo ship. I needs the precious!

I'm a set-and-forget type, though I did get some skin-tight garment in a promotion once for one of my characters (looks Temporal? Can't remember, it's got like horizontal lines) and I did buy the Section 31 uniform pack ages ago for my other characters.
