If I can't figure out a twitter feed outburst, I'll ignore it. Short Attention span guarantees that people will move onto something else the next day.

Scrolling back a day or so, it looks like someone said he was an anti-vaxxer and he was trying to convince others the opposite.

The vaccines that are a problem are the ones that use toxic heavy metals such as mercury as preservatives.

vaccines are both good and necessary...as for causing autism, that one's very possible - a lot of substances, chemicals and other things negatively affect mental growth and development

That might seem like a possibility at first glance, but it's been essentially disproved by a 2002 study in Denmark that looked at nearly all the children born in Denmark between 1991 and 1998 and found no evidence that the vaccine of interest increased risk of autism. In fact, the risk of autism was slightly less among vaccinated children, though the difference is small enough that it may be a statistical anomaly.

all that means is the vaccine used in the study had none of the substances that negatively affect mental development - but considering there are dozens if not hundreds of different vaccines out there, all using different chemicals, at least one probably DOES use such a chemical

that doesn't, of course, mean that you shouldn't get vaccinations for a child (or yourself) in everything you can possibly get/afford, because whatever drawbacks there might be are FAR outweighed by the benefits

The study that came to the conclusion that one kind of vaccine lead to autism in 1998 was a fake and has been falsified. However, the "truth" it told is still alive in the heads of tinfoil heads and hysteric parents and the damage done by "anti-vaxxers" far outweighs the risk of any vaccination. I really didn't think I would start a discussion about the topic with my remark since arguing wether or not vaccination is necessary is arguing wether or not the earth is round(-ish, potatoe-esque). And people arguing vccinations cause autism probably also argue wether or not homosexuality can be "cured".

Enh, the most salient point against use of mercury compounds is that it isn't really needed. At least not if you keep the vaccine refrigerated.

Also saying ethylmercury doesn't bioaccumulate... well it's technically true, but only as long as it stays ethyl and doesn't decompose.

Ive handled mercury and seen people not experianced enough with and or around it get damn sick because of it, even seen one man die because even though warned not to burn mercury..he did and inhaled the smoke.

If your gonna handle it wear rubber gloves an apron and a plastic see through face mask, and dont ever get comfetable with it , cause one mistep can make you sick.

but yes there are different types of mercury medical mercury is safe but the stuff that goes in thermomaters is most definatly harmfull, anyways thats enough from me and the peanut gallery.

Enh, the most salient point against use of mercury compounds is that it isn't really needed. At least not if you keep the vaccine refrigerated.

Which is not always possible, especially in the developing world. Adding Thiomersal means you can store the vaccines anywhere you want. It also means they can be stored in the developed world in places and you don't have to worry about a power cut making them unsuitable for use.
Also saying ethylmercury doesn't bioaccumulate... well it's technically true, but only as long as it stays ethyl and doesn't decompose.

Even if it did there is no problem. The levels are significantly lower than heavy metal accumulation from every day life, the often quoted tuna is a good example.

This also works for other scary sounding chemicals like formaldehyde...

Tuna was picked as an example because they have higher mercury levels than most things we eat. Most things we eat have negligible amounts.

    According to this website: http://dietgrail.com/mercury-in-food/
Tuna has 17.7, and pears have 0. Salmon ranges from 4.7 to 3. Beets, beef, pork, wheat, lettuce, potatoes, tomatoes.... 0. His example is more useful as a way of showing that tuna isn't safe to eat daily than to say mercury preserved vaccines are safe.

it is safe; the thing says the level of thimerosal used in vaccines decays into ethylmercury levels thousands of times below the amount needed to cause harm

Heh, I notice you didn't compare the level of mercury in the pear to the vaccine...

Why would I? I compared the levels of mercury in tuna to those in vaccines, not pears. But you seemed scared of other things you didn't understand and not just mercury so I gave another example in a nice easy to read picture.

So, just for you I opened Google and got this..
...According to FDA analysis in 2005, tuna fish contains 0.64 micrograms of mercury for each gram of tuna. A 60 gram portion would contain 38.4 micrograms of mercury. By contrast, vaccine manufacturers using thimerosal (a mercury containing compound) as the preservative are adding between 12.5 and 25 micrograms of mercury per dose of vaccine.

I can't find the original 2005 study but it is referenced here. I'm sure I could track it down eventually but I don't really see the point.

There is nothing in vaccines that is not found elsewhere else in greater quantities that are consumed in greater levels and with more regularity.

Also remeber, these chemicals cost money, there are no unnecessary ingredients in vaccines because that would be a stupid waste of money. Of all the scientific industries pharmacy is the one that controls their spending the most (except possible particle physics). If it is in there then the benefits outweigh the risks because, as I'm sure you'll notice, nobody is claiming vaccines are health foods or that their component chemicals are good for you (in significant doses obviously), they're claiming that ~20ug of Hg that's gone in 50 or so days every five years or so is better than being dead.
probably because no one actually bothered to check the mercury levels in pears - at least, no one who did posted the results on bing

Wojciechowska-Mazurek. M, et al., 1995 would disagree. The paper is Polish specific but it has been done. It is difficult to find any information on Google (TRIBBLE Bing) because punching in 'mercury levels in pears' just brings up a load of noise from vaccine sites discussing mercury separate from formaldehyde in pears.

If it wasn't for the fact we cant externally publish data I could run it myself at work plugging a pear into an ICPMS. It still would't really do anything as there would likely be only ~0.00-0.01 ug in there unless the fruit was grown close to a motorway or industrial works.

Except your post wasn't there when I was writing and neither was shadowfang240's reply.

And you missed my point again. I needn't claim the levels of mercury (there's a scary word) in vaccines is a safe level for several reasons (cost, various medical establishments worldwide's regulations, necessity) just that you come across more heavy metals (even more scary words) in your everyday life (in food, in a car, in big cities) and nobody kicks up a fuss about it (well environmentalists do but who the hell listens to us?)

Adverts advertising tuna for Omega-3 have never had OFCOM complaints because tuna contains mercury but people will TRIBBLE and moan about vaccines containing it because they have had their pathetic autism bollocks debunked and now they've moved on to more science they cannot understand.

Any Facebook mums group out there campaigning to have Tuna removed from the shelves to protect their delicate snowflakes? Or decrying Thiomersal and also campaigning to ban diesel cars?

Someday people will grasp that non-bioaccumulative metals every five or so years in near trace amounts is nothing compared to the amount they get whilst sat in a car and grow the hell up and stop trying to give other peoples children chickenpox.

Vaccines are safe and have been declared safe across the entire planet by multiple different organisation with no relation to each other and all their ingredients are necessary and far better for humans than being dead. There's not really anymore to it than that.
