Still fly the Vorgon Heavy Destroyer sometimes and my Tal'Shiar Adapted Destroyer is my main's main. 4/3 + heavy slot will rock on toast.

I would like to see a universal slot, so I can have an extra slot fore or aft. I also would like to be able to fire torps and mines together. No shared cooldown. As if there is only one tube or one crew to fire it.

Torpedoes are already intensely spikey. They're not ever going to let you pile spike on top of spike. Especially since they're going to the trouble of getting rid of Torpedo ability double-tapping.

Used to primarily fly Escorts, and then got into Cruisers when the meta went away from cannon boats.

From testing on Tribble, I am already working on my Escort build. This new heavy weapon business is the icing on the cake, that could mean the meta heads back to Escorts Online, again.

    Salivating at the prospect, personally!

I thought of this as I read the stats of the new escorts today. They look like fine ships, but I have trouble wanting to go from 4/3 to 5/2.
Anyone else feel this way, or am I crazy?
Only 5/2 ship I have is the Temporal T'liss.

Other characters use the Phantom and the Tal'Shiar Adapted Destroyer (4/3). My Phantom frequently outperforms my Temporal T'liss. I'm assuming the [T6] TSAD will outperform the Temporal T'liss as well, but we'll see.

One of my favorites is still the patrol escort, which i am hoping we see a tier six update to in time. Though i will say if it keeps the tempest rear tail cannon, than the trait that it would come with should be based around the idea of a hit and run style of combat. Such as that it gives you a stacking buff to your forward weapons so long as your rear weapons are the only weapons firing on a target, even without a internal cd I think such a trait could be quite fun an balanced to use.

My others would be the Dhelan, Faeht, Kolasi Siege Destroyer, Jhu'ael Tactical Carrier Warbird. While the other non-faction specific ships I quite enjoy flying would be Vorgon heavy escort, and the Hazari Destroyer which is my favorite non-faction specific ship with 4/3 set-up.

The ship and quality of your build is much more important than whether it's a 5/2 or 4/3 configuration. My bug ship is a 4/3 and it's far superior to my pilot or vaadwaur manasa which are 5/2. Your boff layout, abilities, and gear are much more important.

I don't use them exclusively but I do have a sentimental attachment to my FT6 Defiants and vet destroyers. *shrug*

I own the Manticore and some 5/2 ships on my federation toons aka the Pilot Ships.
But I like the Manticore more....
The Rising of the Delta is the best expansion ever, and people love it to death because it is a good day to die in the endless struggle for supremacy of your own conviction. (A spin off of the Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and all the players love it.)

I got the new escorts today, and finding them quite good, alittle heavy tactical leaning on the boff layout for my taste, but still quite good. Also the fact that the Rail/Gauss/Coil-gun is not merely a white quality, but actually epic quality is quite nice. I do love the look of these ones, wish I could alter the looks of the Ferasan and Caitian ships maybe with parts from the other if you own both, since I love the fact I can use the Dehlan parts on the romulan/reman vessel (the Dehlan is one of my favorite designs on romulan side).

The layouts I do not like are 4/2 (raiders), and maybe also 5/1 (Baltim).

I have also used tactical ships with 5/2 (Pilot Escorts), 5/3 (Imperium), 4/4 (Chell Boalg), and 4/3, but I have grown maybe a little tired of the typical 4/3.

    My order of favorites is: 5/3, 5/2, 4/4, 4/3, 5/1, and 4/2.

Depends on my mood and which character I am on. For the foreseeable future, especially with if the new heavy slots work out t, 5/1 D4x on my main kdf char all day. The issue is otherwise personal preference because numbers wise you can statistically do more weapon damage in a 5/2 than a 4/3 simply because the choices up front can have higher core numbers. I fully support flying all variants (5/1 5/2 4/3 4/2) because fun and you should fly what ship happens to look good to you, otherwise it's like dating a 50 year old escort (see what I did there :) ) just cuz she performs slightly better than the better looking 25 year old version. I still crack out the ol Mobius every once in a while just cuz I like how it looks.

    In a word: yes.

The Akira is probably my favorite Starfleet design and likely plays some part in why I tend to keep coming back to it(or rather, the Alita) on my various characters. Plus, my torpedo specialist is more or less married to it because of the torpedo point defense console. Torp Spread 3 + TPDS + usual damage buffs = up to 68 torpedos fired in a single volley = I'm the Oprah of torpedos, lag(thanks Kemocite), and explosions for everyone. The Akira chasis just so versatile.

I also enjoy taking the Elachi Escort for a spin on one of my Sci captains fairly regularly. More of a fun-ship with the Graviton Pulse Generator and Elachi Crescent Wave Cannon combo, but GravWell + CSV'd DHCs still works just fine for most encounters.

I use my Hestia, as a Cannon-Torp Hybrid build.
I also just got the Qin Flight Deck Raptor yesterday, and I am enjoying it.

    I have the Mat'Ha Raptor though, and it's 5/2 And a Beast.

I really think they should re-tool the game, and make all or most escorts 5/2 and change science to 4:3

    So yeah, I use 4:3s

No we do not need Sci ships being made into an escort. 3/3 is plenty for them and my Vesta will back that statement up.

I could not see them adding/changing some science ships to having a 4/3 weapon layout, but I could see them maybe doing a reverse of that in having some science ships with a 3/4 weapon layout. Though even a 3/4 weapon layout is something I don't think would happen still, and would most likely be for a different raider/escort/destroyer type ship line that play different than the rest of these ships.

I'm assuming you're going to get the T6 TSAD when it comes out. Out of curiosity, do you plan on going for cannons with rapid fire for the mastery trait? Or do you plan on sticking with beams?

For a pure escort 5:2 is clearly better than 4:3, its why they were able to dangle the bug ship as a great prize for years.

Yeah... you don't actually have one, do you?! LOL. Bug ships are 4:3, all of them, not 5:2.

The bug ship was the first ship with 5 tac consoles. The Andorian Kumari was the first 5:2 weapon setup and the Scimitar was the first 5:3.

There; had to fix that for you. Doesn't change the fact that it (like most escorts) is very fun to fly; Timberwolf has a nice basic loadout for it that's a good starting point. Hopefully, the upcoming summer event will give us the actual destroyer/cruiser, imagery of which can be had here (a bit further down on that page is imgaery of the Arbarel-class BB - which might come from the summer event after that). One does wonder, though, what special console it will have; the NPC examples encountered to date share the Xyfius' harasser probes.

Given that S'golths are at (relatively) bargain-basement prices with the introduction of their bigger sibling, I'm tempted to experiment with that, but uising the Disruption Pulse Emitter instead. A shame the plasma-disruptor hybrids from 'Past Imperfect' only come in array form...

Now, since we're talking about ships made for turning and burning, I offer as consideration for dogfight music the Sky Rogue original soundtrack.

While the Mat'Ha is still my favorite ship Cryptic has designed, to the point that it is the only ship I let myself use on my numerous KDF characters. (Other than for learning traits I restrict my characters to using different ships).

So I use plenty of 4/3 ships, T'Varo, all the vet ships, Mogai, MVAE, JEM HEC, TSAD, Faeht, ect...

Now 5/2 & 5/3 ships, I like putting two Torpedoes forward, but that is just me.

I too like the Akira class on my main as it feels like it is a jack of all trades ship, it can hit hard, it can tank a decently, and it can fill the carrier role.

    Other escorts that I like:
    Jhu'ael Tactical Carrier Warbird

What dmg difference would be between the new catscorts with a DHC build (a standard non stealth 4/3 escort) and a 5/2 ship after the heavy weapon is given to all escorts and raiders. I would like to know if I would miss to mutch dmg...or what should I put in the aft slots other then a turret to mitigate the difference. I`m a "noob" that whants to buy a new ship or to..and needs some help with the numbers.

If out of my 13 characters, I had more than 2 Feds and one AoY, I'd pick up the T6 Akira, especially if they add a 360 Torpedo Launcher as a future heavy Weapon. That or the Hestia. Just holding out for the next recruitment event, to make a Catian, to move into the Cat Escort I just bought, then have my AoY using a Yamato and Alita with Yellowstone pets.
