I guess this explains why it became so important that subnucleonic beam be removed from Science captains. Granted, its replacement does almost nothing for Sci captains piloting escorts. But if the goal was to make Sci caps less powerful in PVP, I at least understand why it had to be moved to Sci ships (which any player could select).
I still think the primary reason was that SNB is mostly useless in PvE. Turning it into a lT.Cmdr science ability creates more problems for PvP then it solves, since now you can combine SNB with Attack Pattern Alpha on one ship, and it's hard to think of builds that wouldn't try to integrate the two for maximal effectiveness.
A reason - other than pure habit, which is also a big reason, admittedly - why I don't like the change. (Other reasons would be that I think Deflector Overcharge narrows the Science Captain into playing Science Vessels, since only those can really fully benefit from it.)
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Does this mean we're getting some sort of "gear rating" system? And if so, does it mean we may soon be limited in what queues/battlezones characters may be limited to? (I have a bad feeling about this)
It does seem a bit soon for a new rep, especially since I haven't even finished the Lukari rep yet. Oh well, more content is good so I won't complain. And the fact there will be different sets depending on class sounds interesting, to say the least.
Also it does seem like the Featured Episodes have been sorta slow coming down the pipe. It seems like there used to be a few more missions per season than what we've been getting recently, but maybe that's just my own perception of things.
Competitive PvE queues? Still sounds like PvP to me, though not quite. PvP lite? PvEvP? I might try them, but I generally dislike any form of PvP, even if the players aren't actually fighting each other. I don't care to know who is better than who, although I won't stand in the way of players who do.
Perhaps this was originally supposed to be season 12.5 but they added so many new things to it that giving it its own season made more sense.
Less than a month until it hits, I guess the flood of new info will be hitting us starting next week. Although I guess with the new Heavy Weapons slots being added to (essentially) Escort ships, we've already seen the beginning of that information river.
Hello. My name is iamynaught and I am an altaholic.
Wow, PvP content *rubs eyes* am I reading this right?
Serious note, happy to finally see some PvP content added, and the devs paying attention to it. Only took 6+ years. Not happy about the new grinds though. Lately Cryptic has been spreading players too thin with grinds, promo packs, C Store ships, and more grinds. My stuff isn't selling on the exchange even at deep discounts and deep undercuts... players in general have less EC and less spare game time to buy my stuff. All of this is hurting my bottom line, lets try to slow down a bit on the grind, EC sucking and event layering please, it's bad for my Ferengi's exchange sales.
I care more for episodic content than PvP. New system doesn't interest me at all. Sorry Cryptic, I shall not be taking part in ego stroking or troll breeding.
The most important thing is, I, as many others, would like some sort of explanation of what happened to Season 12!?
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
I too feel season 12 felt really short. I know I'm a bit behind some, but my alts are only about halfway through their Lukari reps (after my main bought sponsorship tokens). I feel I'm not really going to have much chance to try out the new space set before another rep is ready to go...am I off on my timing here? Season 13 seems really sudden.
Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

Yup, it does. I rarely get annoyed at Cryptic, but my 'inner nerd rage o'meter' is brimming right now!!

Well. There goes all interest for the upcoming big update.
The only positives I have with Season 13 is a new FE and the balance changes. I couldn't care less about PvP, and I couldn't care less for Competitive PvE either, as you can buff a useless person to massive gear spec, but their powerset and skill set will still be totally useless. Also, ANOTHER new Reputation? We only just had one! Maybe if we could convert marks from any reputation to another (at a 2:1 Ratio for balance) it wouldn't be so bad, but I, like many others, don't feel like grinding ANOTHER reputation up.
As long as this "Player Potential" thing doesn't leech into normal PvE and stays confined to PvP and CPvE, it won't be a nuisance. If it does, it will pretty much ruin PvE and cut profit margins as nobody will see the point in upgrading anything past Mk X White if they are gonna be boosted up.
The only glimmer of hope is that April 1st is just around the corner, and this may be an early joke, but it doesn't quite seem obvious enough for a STO April Fools joke.
Season 12 was downright dismal as a season. We had ONE, yes ONE!, FE, a new rep to grind, a new enemy faction that's barely been utilised at all for ground, and that's about it. Can we go back to having FE's every month, rather than a FE that drags on for 4 weeks, has a week's gap, then instantly a 3 week event (or longer in the case of Summer and Winter) that stops any new FE for another 4 weeks (with the week's gap at the end).
Looks like Season 13 is going to be bad as well, especially with the looming threat of escorts being given overpowered 360 degree weapons.
Can we have another season like Season 10? Where FE's were monthly, and there was only one relevant Reputation to grind (that just so happened to have some of the best equipment).
If you can't solve it logically, solve it like a moron.
51 + 1 Foundry Character Slots is NOT enough. Some of us love our characters. If I want to buy more character slots, why can't I? I couldn't experience the entire Delta Recruitment event without deleting a character.
The Iconians themselves can't time travel because their memories revert, but there is nothing to say an Iconian couldn't write everything she needed to do on a PADD, pin it to herself, travel back, read the PADD, do the tasks and return. Or just get one of her Non-Herald underlings to go back in time for her.
Oh yeah, I do Foundry missions for both KDFs and Feds. Just search KSTF (Short for Kinas Special Task Force, where Kinas is the name of the Admiral you will be serving under). The earlier ones are less story based and more combat based, while the later ones have a much heavier story element, but keep the large battles.
Wow, is this real? So, will there be an ELO/Glicko based matchmaking thing, or is it based on equipment ratings or individual performance metrics? Can we see other player’s ratings? Really interested to learn all the details about this.

I'm actually excited about this Player Potential system. The longstanding question will be answered for a lot of players. That question being whether they are a good, smart player or if they just outclass the competition with gear and upgrades
Depends on how the player potential is measured. Chances are the latter will be more important.
Wow so much complaining about a new season when new content is usually released that often. Why is it a new season? Space balance pass (took most of the time probably), new PvE, new rep, and new PvP matchmaking. We got 1 episode which is more than what we got for all of 2012 and part of 2013. They changed the season, case closed.
My problem with these wargames is that they will be rush rush rush. We are rushing enough already. Kill it faster faster faster! It's exhausting to me. And irritating.
I have no interest anymore whatsoever in pvp. End comment.

"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
(With this Player Potential thingy, it might even do so in such a way that I can play with people on my own level instead of consistently getting steamrolled...)
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
We all know that the new sets based on class is going to provide such bonuses to tacticals that they're not going to feel nerfed by this rebalance. Not to mention the class based science and engineering sets where dps isn't either of our class specific focus. Then they're going to bring out war games where completing objectives faster than the other team will probably mean killing things faster which of course means more dps, more people using tactical classes. Usually in this kind of scenario (Terran Invasion), getting things done at higher speeds means a change of ship class, not a change of career class.
What can I say, more tacticals online coming soon!
Calling this a PVP expansion is grossly overstating the information we have so far. I think we can infer some sort of leaderboard for PVP to make player skill matching possible. The Quasar PVP mode will probably be added. That's all we can be confident in.
Very pumped for leader boards if that's a part of this.
Teaming up players based on their skill measured by system will fail horribly, no doubt. Can't wait to see expert players being teamed up with failpugs, just because everyone has mk XIV epic equipment and similar traits.
Also, I feel like this needs to be said again: I wouldn't play STO if I cared about PvP.
As a matter of fact, having similar traits and epic mk 14 will not result in failed pugs, because such quality of equipment is paid for, and this game is pay to win.
WOOHOO!!!!! Pvp and Class Reputation!?!? My brain is swimming with endorphins about this.
Not quite, since most of the newer reps (after the switch to modular kits) have had stuff separate for each career. Here's hoping that your reading of it comes to pass, but it seems like a good bit of work to create multiple sets of rep gear. I think what they're referring to with talk about 'classes' is the balance changes currently being iterated on Tribble.

Remember when a season had half a dozen or more episodes? Now seasons just bring another grind. Yay. So excited.
Yep your wrong it feels really slow before we use to get an Episode once a mouth with a new season.
