Wow, is this real? So, will there be an ELO/Glicko based matchmaking thing, or is it based on equipment ratings or individual performance metrics? Can we see other player’s ratings? Really interested to learn all the details about this.
@redwren89 I have seen so many players who are absolutely horrible despite having upgraded all of their gear to epic mk XIV. STO is not really pay to win, as your skills matter much more than the gear/ship you own.
You will probably get items for the Elachi and Shuttle Weekend Events. Now that we have these 'Weekend' Event Vouchers expect more of these Weekend Queue Events to add them for a special Account unlock. We are getting a variation of that theme for the First Contact Weeklong Event.

What do you mean we only got two Featured Episodes in Season 12, more importantly we got TWO LOCKBOXES, an Infinity R&D Promotion Box, a new R&D Promotion, and TWO Phoenix Prize Pack Events. All that other stuff had the Developers dripping sweat off their brows.
They didn't have enough time for new Episodes. Are you guys slavedrivers or something?

That may be true for PvE but not for PvP. Here your gear, traits and consoles matter VERY much. And traits in particular are very expensive to get.
Where is my Dominion faction? Where is the Dominion Rep even? 6 episodes that have more to do with the Bajorans than the Dominion is not enough to satisfy me.
Okay so I think it's appropriate to break down Season 13 based on what I see. My guess is that Season 13 started off as season 12.5 as a mid season update. However, because of the fact that what they wanted to accomplish was going to be bigger than what a .5 update usually is, they decided to scrap it and make it a whole season. Look at what we get now:
- New Featured Episode: We continue the storyline Echoes of Light started with the fact the Tzenkethi are protomatter bombing any world that has the crystal formations on them. Hopefully we will learn why these crystals are such a threat.
- Space Balance: We know that this is coming with Season 13 now and why they decided to do it.
- New Reputation: A reputation system where the gear is based on class and not strictly focusing on a particular build is a welcome change in my opinion. It means that for the first time, exploring the reputation will matter on each character, rather than certain sets only good on one or two characters.
- Player Potential system: To me, this system sounds like it's trying to accomplish two things. One, if players are trying to queue up for PvP, it'll only match them to people that are using similar gear in regards to where they are at with their characters, so that they're not a fresh level 50 or 60 character with little to no endgame gear vs. someone who has everything maxed. For PvE, I see this as helping the queue situation where Pugs are no longer being grouped with people who do high damage and people who are doing low damage. It may go to revive the queues.
- War Games: I see potential in this if they have some good rewards. Otherwise, I don't know if people will bother playing them.
I'll be looking forward on hopping on the tribble test server once these start becoming available for players.
The War Games are going to be the marks-yielding queues for the new rep.
Oh man, I hope you're wrong about that. Or that if you are correct, there will be other ways to earn those marks because some people will not take part in anything that even remotely smells of PvP.
I'm willing to give it a shot just to see how it goes, but if it ends up becoming a nacelle measuring contest, I'll quietly leave and wait to get marks for that rep through events.
Hello. My name is iamynaught and I am an altaholic.
Unfortunately, I am really starting to feel as if I am being ripped off in a lot of ways. After seeing the reports that people are putting up on youtube, the so called "balancing changes" in the coding for weapons and such for the most part, are really not balanced, other then bringing the engineer back up to a competitive scale. And to top it off, a new season when you have episodes with major major bugs in them that are still not fixed, and with at least one of them the episode cannot even be completed...and yet you are dishing out new seasons and trying to make things "balanced," yet ignoring these major bugs that a player like myself do consider important.
The grinds are bad, as some have posted, and I never played a game with grinds that take so long and are the worst, that come out from any other game company I have seen, especially for reputation. Your competitors have realized this and most have either changed or came out with whole new venues to change such things. It is no wonder after coming back after two years, I see less people playing this then ever. Not because the game is old, because it seems to me that your not making changes that are keeping up with your competitors in the way you are doing things. It feels like a "job" or me "going to work" and will still be that way.
Getting back to the so called balance issue. "Balanced" to me would be like taking them all the beams, and making sure that they are all equal in one form or other. For instance, a plasma beam might do more damage then a antiproton, but an antiproton could be given a higher chance in critical damage chance. To me that is balanced. Or someone coming into a Borg Red Alert and killing all the cubes by firing one shot and killing all the cubes, that is not balanced. (I actually was involved in a red alert like that, and its not funny because marks are rewarded by damage given not by just doing mission, and I have no issue with that.) I almost quit right then and there. What is worse is, I really don't see any of your "balance" fixing that type of situation happening again.
And for me, this is pretty much the last straw is this:
"War Games: The War Games queues will put players in head-to-head competitive PvE scenarios. These new queues split ten players into two teams of five, who must race to complete objectives before the other team succeeds."
I have to agree with some others, that is a form of PVP and not PVE, but the sense that I am really getting is, just like a recognized two years ago, your still stuck in the frame of mind that you, as developers are developing the game instead of what the players want. If I wanted something like that, I would go play another very well known space game that is PVP. Only difference is, they advertise it as such. That is so old school and there were a lot of good games in the past that had a lot of good potential but died for that very reason. Sad to say this will end up being one of them.
Anyways, I know others will enjoy the game, unfortunately not me, especially with the major bugs not being fixed the way they should be, and the so called "balancing issues" which I do admit some will be good but will cause more harm then good. For that reason I just have to say "I am out."
Most people here complaining about there being just one episode with season 12 probably weren't here for the great and long episode drought that we had before LoR dropped. I started playing around when the game went F2P and the PvP revamp was promised way before that so we've been patient. You'll get plenty of episodes once they're done with all these changes.
So the season will be here quick and you'll gt an episode. Frankly, the stuff that I hate about this game lately is the never ending event grinds.

Except for the fact that one of those lockboxes, one of those Phoenix Pack events and the Infnity R&D Pack were all before Season 12, then sure.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
War Games: The War Games queues will put players in head-to-head competitive PvE scenarios. These new queues split ten players into two teams of five, who must race to complete objectives before the other team succeeds.

Then I'd recommend you to voice your feedback on the Tribble forums - the changes are not finalized yet! Of course, the more specific you can be, the better.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
hmm I guess after thinking on it I'm ambivalent about wargames. Everything queued here is going to be a rush rush rush anyway so this will be no different. So why not - let's have at it.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."

@redwren89 I have seen so many players who are absolutely horrible despite having upgraded all of their gear to epic mk XIV. STO is not really pay to win, as your skills matter much more than the gear/ship you own.
+1 its how you go about the situation and besides all the stuff is obtainable apart from zen..Zen to an extent is cash pay for faster access but if you grind out a decent amont of dil and play with the exchange smartly you can churn out a TRIBBLE load of Zen and get stuff unlocked..Note micro transactions in an MMO also contribute to a game..
Example of P2W is SWTOR which is God awful for F2P..You can only play till level 50, the remaining 20 is out of bounds for F2P also everything else is ultra limited in that being you have to purchase weekly passes with cartel coins (Real cash)..Also 99% of prurple gear of really worthy value is out of reach (P2W wall) end gear is also behind a wall which is again expensive..The limitations on F2P accounts is laughable also 75% of the player base is foul..Also you cant use the mail system, you cant use chat more then once a minute..They call this system a free trial..
STO is far better in terms of account restrictions..It gives you freedom unlike SWTOR..STO is light years away from P2W currently..Its just the you need to be smart about playing..Having the best ship with all maxed out gear doesnt make you good its how you use them in conjnction with your skill set you selected in the tree..
Um..Holy ****! ANOTHER season!! I feel like this one is coming out a bit fast...Am I wrong?
Yesh, I quite agree. Normally, I don't post comments on forum threads anymore, due to some grueling business on another game forum I used to comment on, but rolling out another season so shortly doesn't seem like the best idea. Still...The next Featured Episode: In Mirrors and Smoke sounds awesome as usual. We don't need yet another reputation system so soon, though. Apart from this, the next set of major content seems to be borderline epic!
There are other games that do pvp so well, and we are so far from that why can't we (sto) stick with what we are good at, story content instead of some half attempt at half pvp, pve?

Im kinda hoping to rest some as (a fan and player contributing to the Sto wiki) the wiki hasn't quite got all of season 12's little stuffs yet.. Im dreading all the changes (and another Rep so soon) that are gonna have to be made once the balance pass goes live...Oh well..
Ohhhh yaaaaaaaayyy just what everyone needs, more single episodes for three to five weeks every time straight. I love falling asleep doing the same thing over and over again with missions.
Just one featured episode - again? I know there are a lot of other changes, but that sounds like a lot of repetition in the story part to me. Last season I finished the featured episode almost without watching the screen several times, because there were so many reruns required, that I simply knew each script.... that's boring.
Competitive PvE is just PvP with a paper bag on it's head.
Not doubt those obssessed with winning will work out strategies, builds and practice the map until it's pointless even trying to compete with them!
The competitive race in Winter Wonderland irked me enough to the point I didn't do it ever and the idea of seeing more content along those lines is distasteful to me.
PvP, honestly, that's less then irrevalant to me.
I just hope they don't tie epic awesome sauce gear to it.
Because incentivizing players who dislike PvP to do it just for the gear is bad form.
Because either denying the gear to those players or forcing them to do something they find unpleasant is not acceptable from my point of view.
As for the new Reputation, I am reserving judgement on that until I see what item rewards are available for the Tier Progression and the queues needed to acquire the relevant marks.
There have been Reputations I just didn't bother advancing at all because the gear provided wasn't suitable for one reason or another. For example, a Reputation focussed on phasers/disrupters and torpedos when I use none of those wasn't useful to me.
Given the premise of this expansion, I am hoping the relevant queue for marks reward isn't Competitive PvE or PvP based.
And if it is (I hope it isn't!), I am hoping the Choice of Marks missions may provide an alternative source of the requisite marks so those activities aren't mandatory to work on the new Reputation.
Where is my Dominion faction? Where is the Dominion Rep even?
Actually, that's one of the first thoughts that crosses my mind each new expansion announcement.
The other one is where is our Cardassian faction?
And I'm still cranky because Delta Rising didn't bother giving us all the major DQ species as playable Captain options.
From my point of view, all new Expansions need to put aside until all three of those changes have been implemented. Just giving out new Reputations all the time isn't really a good update at all.
