Any Admins out there want to explain to me how it is that I opened 900 Phoenix boxes and didn't get one single Epic Token..Wasted real money and tons of dilithium.. Thanks....for nothing..
Doesn't require an admin for explanation. It's called random chance.
Every box has a small (extremely small) percentage chance of granting an ultra. If the odds are 1:100, every box you open has a 1% chance of granting an ultra. Whether the contents are fixed upon creation of the box, or upon opening, who knows, it doesn't change the odds. Whether you buy one box, or 1,000,000 boxes, you still only have a 1% chance of getting an ultra when you open it. (I don't know what the odds actually are, I'm just with 1% for the heck of it)
It's not like lottery scratch tickets, where 1% of tickets printed will be a winner, so if they print 1,000,000 tickets, 100,000 of them will be winners.
Each and every box, whether it's upon creation or upon opening (again, who knows) has a 1% chance. It is theoretically possible, but not likely, for every single box to grant an ultra. It is also theoretically possible, and much more likely, for no boxes to grant an ultra.
An example that has been given time and again in these forums, as the exact same "question" happens with every new lock box release, is flipping a coin.
Having only two sides, a coin has a 50% chance of landing on heads when you flip it. This does not mean that if you flip it 100 times, it will land on heads 50 times. It only means that each individual time you flip it, there's a 50% chance it will land on heads. It is possible for a coin to be flipped 100 times and land on heads every single time.
So, you made the exact same gamble 900 times, and 900 times you got the 99% chance, and not the 1%.
@arionisa explained it well, that is how chance works. It's not Cryptic's fault for deciding to gamble and not winning. On the other hoof though I would personally like to see Cryptic stating the odds for an event. I mean they know, they program it this way - it's not random how the drop chance of these boxes will be. A lottery has to disclose the odds, these events and lockboxes don't as they circumvent the gambling definition - but it would be a gesture of common courtesy on Cryptic's end.
