Disconnects, Crashes, Delayed Map Loads, Transfers & Character Changes..Oh my! Tkt#170220-001259

[BEGIN "NOTE:" ;]
NOTE: I'm a color blind user, please see "Advisory" at bottom if you'd like to learn more about Tritanopia and the reasons for some of my formatting that improves visibility for me on these forums that need a more Accessibility Compliant color scheme for the people of the color blind gaming community.

BE ADVISED; Most of the problems occurring on STO at this time need to be addressed by the SERVER TEAM, and are NOT Development related.

There are 2 pertinent Links on the STO Forum about these issues that are affecting ALL players, myself included, and below them I have included a "Temporary 'Potential' Solution" that will help stabilize many of the problems occurring with STO's Servers; however the solution involves using "Reduced File Streaming" that calls for more RAM from a user's system. Many older computers came with a limit of 4G/B of RAM; especially in the laptop market through the years of 2008 through even 2012, so those with older equipment may have other issues associated with this very same feature. Details below the links...

Link # 2 that has even more information that would be helpful to the SERVER TEAM in tracking the issues that have been happening courtesy of Scotslad that I had to include below the Advisory listed in "NOTE:" because of the way the forum here handles quotes:

arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1227723/frequent-disconnects?sso=eyJ1bmlxdWVpZCI6IjExNjQxNDA0OCIsIm5hbWUiOiJ0aGVjcnVzaGVyIzY2NDQiLCJlbWFpbCI6InN0by50aGVjcnVzaGVyQGhhbGJhaWxtYW4uY29tIiwicGhvdG91cmwiOiJodHRwOlwvXC9pbWFnZXMtY2RuLnBlcmZlY3R3b3JsZC5jb21cL2FyY1wvZmRcLzFkXC9mZDFkNDQzYjFhNjg1YjliYWNhODk4YjNkM2EwMWExZjE0NzgxOTA5NzQuanBnIiwicm9sZXMiOiJNZW1iZXIiLCJjbGllbnRfaWQiOiIxNDQzOTY4OTgxIn0%3D+31378d5a0f7b9aa4b327c699364fb2cc42346906+1487965599+hmacsha1

# 3 "Temporary 'Potential' Solution" that is Noted as "Potential" because it may not be right for all users depending on their equipment, and also is a clear indicator that the STO Server's are in fact facing a severe bottleneck as well just as Scotslad also discovered. Below is the link to the screen shot within STO that shows where the "Reduced File Streaming" feature may be enabled. Be advised that for PC's running any operating system equivalent to Windows 7 64-bit and above; especially UNIX OS'es with WINE, I do suggest having a minimum of 16G/B of RAM to run any game, and I've had less problems as well making use of "Reduced File Streaming" compared to when I wasn't with less of the problems listed in the subject line; although "Reduced File Streaming" is not 100% able to prevent the occurrences, it does significantly lessen them. I've not looked to see exactly how much more RAM "Reduced File Streaming" uses, but I also develop security software, so I've 128G/B of RAM to throw around, and understand many users do not. Here's the pic, hope it helps those that wish to give "Reduced File Streaming" a try to see if it also improves their experience.

BEGIN ADVISORY;
BE ADVISED THAT I'VE RARE HEREDITARY COLOR BLINDNESS KNOWN AS "Tritanopia" where there are two variants: the first variant being congenital and non-deteriorating as a problem with the yellow iris that limits the perception of contrasting colors and the perception of the color blue (i.e. "normal vision" may see 5000 shades of blue, I will see 50 to 100 shades of blue), and the second variant (I do not have this variant) is a deteriorating variant often brought on by other conditions and is NEVER hereditary. The way I type and format, such as using CAPS for certain items is strictly "for 'emphasis' ONLY" and to improve on the visibility of information due to all portions of the arcgames.com site NOT using contrasting colors.

NEEDED IMPROVEMENTS TO Arcgames.com to support those with limited vision: I strongly suggest the arcgames.com website developers take a lesson from sites like Origin.com, EA.com, and Bioware.com to follow their examples of contrasting color use on websites since some of their games such as Titanfall, directly support those with limited vision with a mode for those with color blindness including conditions such as mine that are extremely rare, but can occur in both women and men, in my case known as "Mild Congenital (a.k.a. "Heriditary") Tritanopia"
;END ADVISORY

Here's the valuable information from Scotslad that I give a shout out of big time Kudos for having posted and that is going to be super helpful for the server team :D ...
I'm the same, major rubber banding, random disconnects, maps not loading, not being able to beam up or start anything. I have done a trace and packet loss trace.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

The value after the ip address is the amount of data lost in a percentage, after doing a whois 198.49.243.252 is cryptic with 92% packet loss. The problem isn't the game server but just before that, the whois for the ip comes back with something interesting, the naming.

Anyway, there is what looks like a bottleneck and it's between washington 38.111.40.114 and cryptic 198.49.243.252. Either way, the flow into the servers can't cope with the data.

    Seems to be same here in Australia on Optus network

    Indeed barehere.

    These issues become part of any gaming experience that is online-based when there's a central point of failure, and at this point, it's undoubtedly clear that Cryptic's/Arc's/PWE's/Blacklight Retribution's hosting solution choice of servers are the actual bottleneck regardless of where people are connecting from. These kind of of problems drain all the joy from the gaming experience with all the frustration they cause. Hope the Server Team starts to bring its A-Game from here on out and that posts these and comments from other users in the community having the same problems helps things along by getting the valuable information they need out in the open. :D
