My personal limit is 30 of each colour of trace, any more than that and I start thinking to myself that however many of one I get, I'm going to have to do the same thing twice more. That some days the Omega game works perfectly and others it ends after a few seconds doesn't help matters either.
i've been near 1k but alot of the time the timer seems glitch a lot, especially round about the 10-12sec mark where it will go straight to zero, i'm only doing it basically for the ship and the anniversary packs b/c you occasionally get marks from them.

You don't actually have to play it. Just start it and leave it alone until the countdown reaches zero. You still get the credit.
Yeah, but you just get one trace of that color. If you play it, you get a green every time and have a shot at Blue and Purple. Playing it that way is pointless, you would have to do it hundreds of times per color just for a minimal return.
As for me, I have a TV in my computer room so I keep STO full screen and I just mute it while I play the Omega Game. I usually put something on TV that's entertaining that I don't need to concentrate on.. usually something I have seen before. I did some farming today and I just muted the game and streamed Season 4 of Archer from my Plex Server.
I actually kinda like the Omega Game, though I admit.. after a few hundred rounds it gets kinda old.
i'm playing on console, they didn't bother optimizing for the console controls, so if i get really lucky i might get two green shards, never a chance at blue or purple.
OK, playing this on the xbox seems seriously more complicated than the PC. I would love to be able to even use my Dpad vs the analog stick. The stick can't respond fast enough or accurately enough to quickly snap back and forth. I think the best i have done is 1100 and on hovering near 800, while 900 is what you need to get 2 pieces - i dont see how to get enough to get an upgraded part...not without maybe rebinding keys with an Xbox Elite controller - which i haven't tried.
This. the best ive gotten is 850. nice to see them optimize for platform
I've tried all of the various techniques others have suggested, but I'm still lucky if I break the 1300 mark. I think it's just that my dexterity isn't that great, but I don't mind much. I usually try to keep around 40-50 each and pass them from toon to toon to have them start processing then farm to make up for the loss and move to the next one.
As far as what I do to pass the time, I tend to sing varations of "Tiny Bubbles."
I don't do the Omega very much, just enough to get the ship and a few extra. But, if I ever were to get into a monotonous routine with it, I would park the catcher, come to the Forums, read the new Posts, and realize that relatively the Omega Mini-game is not that monotonous at all.

Simple, I do my 1 scan per area, get all 3 done and turned in the daily.
Seriously, the grind is pointless to me. I'd rather just wait for the next Phoenix box event to get a boatload of tech upgrades for much less effort. You know they are gonna re-run it, people always have dilithium to burn on something and Phoenix packs give great rewards considering. I will see if I can get an upgrade or two from my 1000 voucher collection, but won't be sitting there all day, no frelling way.

I believe he was referring to what do you get out of doing more than just parking the catcher and getting your one particle. You can get more if you hop around like a frog on a hotplate, but since I can never usually get above 495 I never sweat it.

The highest I've ever got using the XboxOne controller was 710 -and since I only received ONE Omega Trace. I just skip it.
Would sort of be easier, well to me anyway, if we'd be able to use the D-pad.
Generally speaking, you get better rewards with higher scores. For example, with a score of at least 2,300 you will get 3 traces and 1 sliver which is the best guaranteed reward. Additionally, with high scores (roughly 1500 or higher; which rewards you with 3 traces) there is a very small chance you can also get a shard or even rarer a fragment.
Yeah, I would be really frustrated with the mini-game if I had to use a controller or keyboard. The particles move too fast after a while. Using a mouse to move the scoop is much easier, but there are times when I have experienced mouse lag.
I completely burned myself out on Omega grinding the first year. Since then I just go to the location, find a scan point, start the scan and let it finish on its own. Still sitting on 80+ of the Omega upgrades from that first year.
Anyway, while that's going on, I look at my inventory. Or start DOff/Admiralty missions. Or look to see if I can donate to my fleet. The game is so buggy anyway, a lot of the time (likely more than half the time, for me) the game ends early, sometimes before the first particle even crosses the 'finish line'. Which I kind of like, since it means I get finished faster.
As for using mouse or keyboard, I absolutely had to use the keyboard. I could get 2000+ scores easily with the keyboard and never broke 800 using the mouse. With the mouse I just kept moving just too much out of the row that I kept missing. Keyboard is just tap 1-3 times and things were solid.
Hello. My name is iamynaught and I am an altaholic.
Heh, I just buy up omega fragments when they're cheaper during the event (as in, half price). Keep half for me, sell the rest later. Get my EC back and a tonne of Omega Tech. No effort or grinding.
Now, the event is over, so I need you chumps to get back to work on other things. kthxbye.
