Benefits to Creating Temporal Agent?

With AOY coming to consoles (PS4) on February 14th, we can now create temporal agents. Besides playing 7 new missions, in the 23rd century I believe, is there any other benefit over my 4 existing characters (2-Sci, Tac and Eng) that would give me enough reason to create another character? Or can my existing characters just obtain whatever is offered in the new content?

With my available gaming time, I find I am mainly just playing my Fed Sci main since starting in September. Others are mainly used to obtain additional resources.

Thanks!

dunno - depends if you get temporal recruitment event with it, or not - should be announced though

If you can create a Temporal Recruit... OMG do it, do it NOW! They unlock a bunch of good account wide benefits and one outrageously good benefit, namely all your reputation gear projects generate [ultra rare XIII] items instead of [rare XII]. That's just a ton less hassle to upgrade later. Plus a very useable ship trait, a decent space trait, superior specialization traits, a small mountain of dilithium, and a gold duty officer that grants extra XP.

The Temporal Recruit event is definitely worth it, even if only to unlock the account-wide rewards.

It's an event. Why wouldn't you want to participate?

The account unlocks are 1000% worth it.

Thanks all. This kind of information isn't explained in STO blogs posted. As I don't have lots of time to run many characters, I have to be selective in what characters I spend my time on for both building stuff and having fun.

Yes, you're right. The blogs are mostly a marketing tool, rather than a source of hard information. Happily, there do exist a few exceptions.

They're worth it for the upgrade to rep gear alone. Temporal Recruits get some really nice perks, definitely worth it.

It is not clear to me yet if the consoles also get the TEmporal Recruit event with Agents of yesterday, if they do, absolutely do it. If not - it depends if you're interest in some TOS aesthetics (UI sound effects and SFX stay with you even later) and a different tutorial/early game experience. I think it's worth checking out, but your mileage may vary.

Yea create one its worth it in the long run. And unlike Delta Rising you only need one Temporal recruit for everything. Just keep in mind that they want the Temporal recruit to be a long haul toon, so you have to do everything for everyunlock. Including maxing ALL available reps and Specs.

Looking through the news for the consoles there isn't much information regarding the rewards for creating an AoY Captain during the Temporal Recruitment Event which is only available to AoY Captains created and has completed the mission "The Battle For Caleb IV". Completing that mission propels the AoY captain into the 25th century within the first 6 weeks of the event will provide the temporal transponder. Only captains with the transponder can collect Temporal Recruit Rewards.

The rewards are not limited to only the 1st 6 weeks when the event launches. It is actually impossible to collect all the rewards in 6 weeks since there are rewards related to leveling up the crafting schools which takes a long time. As long as the AoY Captain has the temporal transponder you can level up that captain at your leisure to finally obtain all the rewards. You can immediately stop playing the AoY captain after getting the transponder wait one year before deciding to level up and claim the rewards if that is your wish.

The following link provides more details of the Temporal Agent Recruitment event for the PC back in June 2016. The rewards should be the same for the console.

    jaguarskx,

That link definitely shows these are long haul characters. Will likely become my second main character to focus on. Likely make a Tac captain for my science ships. Thanks for posting.

Indeed, all you have to do is create the character during the event and don't delete them (at least until you've gotten ALL the rewards). After that it is attached to that account forever more and all the benefits that you accrued pass to your other characters on that account 4-ever.

The most important thing to get from the Temporal toon is the unlock for Mk XIII UR Rep gear. That alone makes it worth making and leveling through the reps.

Now, is that unlock for Mk 13 UP rep gear an account-wide unlock? I already got it for my temporal character but I'd like to know if I can now claim it on my alts as well.

    Yes, it's account wide.

Have your other characters go to the Temporal Agent at your factions social hub and claim the reward. From then on, all gear that was normally Mark XII VR will be crafted at Mark XIII UR.

    It's fantastic! :)

Yes. After your temporal toon unlocks it, have your other characters see the temporal dude for the unlock. Quinn's desk at ESD for Fed, right hand side of the great hall for KDF, and the one guy at the Rom flotilla for Roms.

There's 2 main differences from a regular Fed toon compared to a AOY / TOS-origin Fed toon, outside of a few missions:

    1. TOS style captain icons.
    2. TOS style animations and effects (tricorder, communicator animation and sounds).

That's basically it. Once you get to modern STO era with the character, there is no other difference.

What really is nice is if you guys on consoles do get the AOY event with benefits to the character and entire account. If you guys do get the event, roll one AOY toon. If not, I wouldn't bother unless you simply want the TOS icons / visual / sound.

To those who answered my question above: Thank you so much! I'll definitely look do that and claim that unlock once I get my alts leveled up enough.

@azrael605 It only mentions unlocking server wide rewards, not the account rewards.

This was the PC announcement last year for the Temporal Recruit System:
    https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/10048913-temporal-agent-recruitment

You notice how it differs from the Event? The blog specifically explained the details of what a recruit would get. The console blog is "just" about the server event where participation in certain activity grants server-wide rewards. If there is a recruitment going on for consoles, it hasn't been formally announced yet, at least in my estimation.

Agreed. I see nothing referring to the Temporal Recruit System. We might not be getting those benefits so my new character may last the course of the event, then retire. Too bad as I already worked up an idea for a new character. :/

So without the temporal recruit event, I guess there not much point in buying zen for some extra character slots . Everyone will benifit from the server wide rewards regardless of having a temporal recruit on there account, right???
  • tiberious#6095 tiberious Member Posts: 183 Arc User
Seems like it though I'm waiting to see what STO posts in their console blogs today or tomorrow. See if the Recruit event is mentioned along with rewards for it.

It comes out on Valentine's Day so I'm not checking it out till Wednesday anyway so should know the status on the event by then. :)

I don't know about consoles, but on PC there were 2 Recruit Events up to now - both of them also included giving all players additional one character slot, so maybe on consoles it would be the same... if there will be Recruitment Event...
