there is NOTHING wrong with devs doing cool stuff in game that we cant do!

***see update at bottom of post***

so some guy posted a video of a dev in game flying a scimitar that had special pilot manuvers, then some guy started flipping out about how it wasnt fair for a dev to be able to do something if we couldnt do it and even accusing the dev of breaking rules and TOS and stuff.

https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/5shu13/spartan_and_his_crazy_scimitar_and_friends/

people, get real: there is NOTHING wrong with devs doing cool stuff in game that we cant do!

****updated informations****

well spartan decided to post an explanation/apology over on reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/5shu13/spartan_and_his_crazy_scimitar_and_friends/ddg9zmh/

and it makes me so MAD that this awesome dude felt like he needed to explain himself/apologize because one crybaby threw a hissyfit.

i want to apologize to YOU spartan, for being treated that way. that one crybaby does NOT represent this community!

They should do this more often. Would make interesting enemies in some sort of event.

And besides, by doing this, Spartan has given me some hope that, one day, we will get something like a Vonph or a Voth Citadel with pilot escorts :)

Uh, hate to break it to that guy, but devs in almost any MMO you can think of, pull that kind of stuff constantly.

Like, that's a developer. It's their wont to do such things as they are running the game with the game editor going.

Usually, my mentality is, when a dev starts pulling crazy junk in a game, best to sit back and take plenty of pics or vids, as you won't see that kinda silliness too often.

I'd love to see maybe a once a year event where, maybe the Beta Quadrant, were turned into a huge PvP zone pitting the Players against the Devs with the Devs being able to use the most ridiculous and OP stuff they can, that would literally take every player to take them down. :D

That. . .That is a PvP I would gladly line up for. Have the devs running their 'still out their' villians for us to team up on.

I kinda miss the old days when DStahl (the second STO EP) would show up as an enemy type on Tribble (usually on ESD, SFA, or the Klingon first city zone) - and cause havoc until we all 'killed' him a few times. (And yes, he had a shipload of HP and his weapons were WAY more powerful then allowed in the game proper.)

could be an amusing event... just one potential problem... the way they equip ships they let us fly.... the dps elites might still kick their asses

I had some hope they would do this during the Iconian War.

It would be great fun indeed, a galaxy and zone wide event where all players are needed. Something with several devs attacking key worlds and that it's up to us to coordinate the defence.

Now I want to PvP a dev, any dev, see how long I last... Lol

That could make an interesting event:
Hordes of players against one OP-as-hell enemy controlled by a dev. Imagine a Borg Tac Cube with pilot maneuvers, molecular reconstruction, sensor analysis, 3 hangar bays full of Romulan Drone Ships and 2-second thalaron pulse ; all justified by a little in-game description: "A Borg cube has assimilated a squad of overconfident captains and is now about to transmit all its assimilated data to the Collective! Stop it at all costs!"

And this is exactly why I love Sparty so much. Unlike every other Cryptic staff member (I'm really sorry if I'm unfair to someone else in the devteam, but Spartan is the only one I've actively seen) he actually engages with players, chats with us, links crazy looking items and has good time - all that makes players feel more welcome and gives us feeling that staff notices and cares about us. If someone has problem with him using small devhax in the process... well, they're just silly.

Why would that be a conundrum? He's a developer, he is making the game. Of course he can and must be able to do things that players can't!

he's not breaking the ToS. Because he ISNT bound by it. he isn't a player...he's a DEV.
    he isn't playing the game.

I remember in early Ultima Online, when enemy hordes took over towns and GM-controlled bosses would lead them.
    it was..so ...much..fun!
The guy complaining is just jealous because someone has something he can't get and he's MAAAAAAAAD!

I remember seeing a vid made by Bort, where he had all Command abilities enabled.

The thread topic almost feels made-up, though, as I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would have a problem with Devs having special ingame powers. As far as we're concerned, they're ingame gods, and can do as they see fit (and fit as they do).

P.S. Yeah, FFS, what are these naysayers thinking will happen?! A Dev will enter CCA, get 1st place, and rake in the Fleet Marks?!? LOL. I don't think they really understand how it works then: If a Dev wants the marks, he just open a database edit window, and suddenly he has 10 million FM!

Go, @crypticspartan#0627 , go!, I hope that the devs can release more pilot ships, the mechanics are great, but besides the D4, cant stand the looks of them

Oh wow. I just finished reading the Reddit post. What a child! Seriously? "I want it, but can't have it, so a dev shouldn't be allowed, and by the way, the game must be rigged because dev magic!" WTH? Get over yourself, dude.

Lol Spartan always does amusing things when hes around. Its harmless fun and more importantly he has access to the tools to do so, so no its not ok for players to follow suit via some kind of exploit
  • saber1973asaber1973a Member Posts: 1,225 Arc User
.. and it's not only fun, but also testing the game for some unusual scenarios to find where will be bugs...
If normal player want to do some crazy OP stuf... well on Tribble the Devs added Omega Tech Upgrades to Drozana Testing Console >:)

Lol, what a huge fuss over a bit of fun.

Spartan is the one Dev i've had more interaction than any others in game and he's always entertaining to have about. I particularly like his trolling of the channels with uber-elite gear he's made up, the sort of stuff most players would sell their own mothers for! :D

Honestly this is just a bit of fun, not like he's trying to exploit the game for financial gain or something. People need to lighten the hell up. Geez....

Development requires them to have stuff that can exceed the rules. How else can they even begin to tell what is too much and what isn't? Players have rules, and developers are not players.

Developers are players too, at least some of them play the game.

Storm in a teacup, why deny the Dev's a bit of fun now and then? Make it a random thing where a Dev (or Devs) appears and livens things up a bit - broadcast a message that there is a disturbance in system x and all available captains are to investigate. When we arrive a few Devs are lying in wait and let the bun fight commence. Completely random to break the routine of heading off to dil mine, slotting doff assignments, waiting for queues etc. Might also be good for the Dev's as well, give them a 10-15 minute "break" to clear their heads and maybe generate ideas that would otherwise be lost.

Let's hope this doesn't discourage the Devs from participating in their game - even if it means that some people perceive it as unfair because they're toying a bit while on a work account.

We want to see more participation of the Devs, definitely not less.

Why does lootcritter have to be an TRIBBLE$ sometimes? Not the first time a dev uses his "special" powers and not the last I hope. Someone take the stick out of his TRIBBLE$. Having spent ridiculous amounts of $$$ in this game does not give him special powers to mess with devs even if he's met them.

@crypticspartan#0627 - No need to apologize you did nothing wrong.
