If you got that code on a different mail/account, you can only use it on the one you received it on.
I tried the same (cant be blamed can i?) and got the same problem, seems the codes are bound by email/account.

I believe the only thing you can say for sure is that you are signed up to play sto, allow cryptic to send you advertisement emails in your account settings and if you got the email it was totally random regardless of any other defining factor.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

What can we do if we already have the ship & got the code? I sent one to a friend last night but I don't know if it'll work for him or not?
Except claiming the spec points yourself, nothing. According to various people it really only works with the account that's linked to the mail adress you got the code sent to.
Real bummer because a lot of people who recieved the code already had the ship.

I got the e-mail already finished mastery and put it to mothballs, tbh crash you will be disappointed mostly by the boff seating and 3 tac consoles on an assault cruiser
But oh well it was free and the trait is handy for sure
