The Phoenix Prize Pack.....

This isnt me griping, just putting a little info out there for anyone thats curious. 114 Phoenix packs opened. 78 uncommons, 21 rares, 15 very rares. Like with all boxes with this game, theyre just another scam. The upgrades are nice though. Got my sci alt nicely upgraded.

Uh guys... you DO know that they're naturally not going to make it easy to get ULTRA RARE and EPIC quality tokens right? Of course they will be rarer than the others.

Not complaining here. Just reporting so others get a sense of gambling even if a few people aren't representative samples in the least.

I was only after the Corvette, and now get to decide which other UR ship to get. Already had all the epic ships too.

We still get a good bunch of free chances all week, account-wide times however many toons you have. "the ability to claim a free Phoenix Prize Pack once per account."

Well I was expecting epic to be extremely rate but I was not expecting ultra rate to also has that extremely low chance of dropping see how it rewards old T5 ships. I wanted them because I missed the both summer events and the Risian Cruiser looks visually nice but didn't plan on using any ship, since I have the Elachi dread plus all the epic ones. I'm a bit sad I guess, I was expecting UR to have something like 5-10% chance with epic being 1%.

You dont say?!?!?!? After almost 9k hours played, had absolutely NO idea that getting ultra/epic drops from any box was statically less likely than hitting the actual lottery. Please, tell me more.......

All jokes aside, this thread was just more to inform the community of our drop rates. Some people just reserve their right to be grumpy about it, whereas some people (you) reserve your right to jump in threads and needlessly inform people of information that they, most likely, know (Assuming theyve been playing the game for longer than a week). But that 1 guy in the community that has never opened a reward box, and lives under a rock, thanks you for that timely piece of information.

Edit: That came out harsher than I intended. I was actually just poking fun at ya. Sorry if I came across as rude or mean.

When Cryptic was sold to the Chinese company, Perfect World, they switched from a model that relied on everyone to pay their share with extra revenue from cosmetic items to a model that relies heavily on people who are addicted to the game (some surely to the point that it is a mental illness) who gamble away huge sums of money on the chance for a payoff.

I haven't played this game in two years or more years. I recently started again, and it is largely the same. The 10,000 points I had banked was nice though. I only wish there was some way for the game to make money that does not involve exploiting people with gambling addictions or similar mental illnesses.

I bought 100, so 400,000 dil, plus the freebee daily box and got:
    13 very rare
    30 rare
    58 uncommon

Overall I'm pretty satisfied. I would have liked some ultra rare to pick up the Risan ships I wasn't interested in back when they were offered for their admiralty cards. But I can now have the Tanius on all my characters. I can pick up the shotgun, antiproton torp, and Absorption Matrix console for the delta recruit I kept and my TOS character. And I now have 58 Phoenix tech upgrades waiting for the next upgrade weekend.

These lock box key equivalents cost, what, 11 cents worth of dil? Compared to a $1 lock box key where the epic item has 250 to 1 odds those results seem fine.

Pretty much my feelings on it. I'd like to have gotten one epic so I could get the Kobali warp core I missed but as it stands the character I use AP weapons on has a nice new torp and console, I have a cool shotgun on my tac character, all my alts now have the V.S.S. Tanius and RMC, and I've got upgrades for days when I finally get them all the rep sets I want for their builds. (Only thing I really want now is a Sheshar so hopefully I can find someone in game to trade me one for EC+keys) Would I have liked to get the Kobali ship? Obviously, but I have a week of free boxes to cross my fingers and hope my notoriously bad luck finally doesn't happen. Getting free upgrades to catch myself up to older players who didn't take long breaks is more than enough for me in addition to getting some really nice free goodies I otherwise wouldn't have.

Did you talk to the contact twice? The first time gives you the mission to get the box and the second time completes the mission granting the box.

Opened 500 boxes, ruined all my characters, got 1 ultra-rare token.

    Am I happy I got 1? Yes.
Am I unhappy it took so long? Yes.
Was i expecting such a huge number to be necessary? After various experiments on Tribble with hundreds of character copies with various lockboxes and promo packs, yes.
Do I have regrets? A bit, of course, but that's the game. I knew exactly what to expect since it was a gamble. If you were expecting otherwise, then you need to understand what gambling is and when to stop.

At least, the rest of my characters have all the other items, now, and that's very welcome. It's just too bad I can't keep the rewards safe somewhere for future characters.

I think you can. I'm pretty sure they said you can use the tokens after the event ends. Using will open up the 'token store.'

I don't think so, at least based on what the blog says:
The Phoenix Prize Pack will be available for a limited time only, so act fast if you wish to make the best use of this promotion before these limited-access items are once again sent into retirement. The Phoenix will return to retirement on December 8th, 2016, giving players just ONE WEEK to obtain these prizes before they fade away!

There's no indiciation the Phoenix Pack will be different from previous limited time releases. The item will vanish from drop tables/stores/availability, but what's in your inventory isn't going to disappear.

I still have glossy photos of Q on one character, and those have been useless for a full year.

Yes, but since all items are bound to character, that doesn't invalidate what I said about future characters.

That's different for the tokens, though, assuming they still stay valid and there'll be another Phoenix event. And based on what we have seen from the devs, both cases are possible (whether there'll be another event or not, and whether the tokens will still be valid if another event happens).

I wouldn't be surprised if a Phoenix Pack release became a regular yearly release (or maybe three times a year in line with the Anniversary, Summer, and Winter events).

So my situation; from 330 pheonix boxes and over 500 lock boxes opened since i started playing the game i never, never ever got anything good. I see how others get good stuff from 50-100 boxes constantly and whithout trubble. I am now suspecting that this random is not quite random and involves additional factors or variables that are NOT mentioned by Cryptic. This is not only about luck or chances imo.

@minidari this is exactly what chance means...

ok, i got 1 free and pick up 10 for Dils, my results are 8 uncommons, 2 rares, and 1 very rare. just disappointing, since i nearly has most, only 4 items that i dont have, the rest are easy to get. if you had all those retired items, only what worth to get is that research bonus cards for upgrades.

i am not willing to blow all my Dils for those pheonix boxes, just one time for 10 pack was enough for me, good enough for once a year event.

didnt like PWE/Cryptic gambling tactics, since thier RNG had made this game no longer as rpg format, and turning into "casino online" format.

I normally stay away from these types of RNG promotions as I usually only get junk when I have open lockboxes just for lobi. But I said you know what the worst thing I could get is those really good Phoenix Upgrades. So I moved around dil from all my characters and had more then I thought I had. I was able to buy 200 boxes in addition to the free one you get per day. I have to say I was going for the upgrades and hoping to get a VR to get the a Red Matter Capacitor for my main character.

So I started opening them and with some luck I got a VR within the first 10 I opened. Mission accomplished I got my Red Matter Capacitor everything else is icing on the cake. So luck was good I got 27 VR tokens so  Red Matter Capacitors for all my characters. Over 50 Rare tokens and well over 100 Uncommon tokens so many upgrades  . So as I came to the end of the boxes I figured that is all she wrote for getting anything high level. Then on my Very Last Phoenix Box I got a Epic Token  I nearly fell out of my computer chair. I have all the epic ships so I am getting 2 Ultra rare ships I would have never been able to get otherwise. The Voth Bulwark and the Jem'Hadar Attack ship. So I finally get the Voth Cloak as I own the Bastion and will have Attack ship Hanger pets for my Jem'Hadar Dread Carrier. I will get all the emotes and small items I never had before on main character. Then some items for my alts they were not around for and the rest will be upgrades.

All in all for me Christmas came early  and the best part of it all I did not spend a dime. All done with in game resources. Thank you Cryptic for the opportunity to win these past items and thank what little luck I do have for coming through for me today. Good luck to all those who invests in this event!

I was lucky (And thats really rare, more than the prize), buyed 35 in total, more rares and very rares, i think i got, like 20 uncommons, and one ultra rare, so, an Attack ship is ready for one of my chars  , in the end i have 36 upgrades, 3 very rares for the capacitor and i'm happy, moslty because i fell in love with the upgrades, and that was my real objective, whatever comes better, its great!

492 opened, 291 uncommon, 140 rare, 60 very rare, 0 UR, 1 Epic. So my guess is about 1:500 odds at a ship... now im out of Dil but atleast i got my breen carrier... shame no UR token for the breen fork for the hanger pets.

My feelings on it is this, its nice it gives us a chance at old things, but with the drop rate so low, they cant be traded, why not let us trade UP tokens say 10:1 UC to Rare, 5:1 Rare to VR, 5:1 VR to UR, 5:1 UR to Epic. After all they arent account wide unlocks and they cant be traded.
  • officerbatman81officerbatman81 Member Posts: 2,761 Arc User
Congrats on the couple of people who got UR and Epic tokens! I think thats great. I have to wait a few hours before i can play the slots, wish me luck. I would love to get one UR for a bug ship.
