With all the focus on DSP around here I'm surprised so many use shooter mode, when they revamped the skills they added a bonus to Aim mode, on top of that you have several options in the spec trees that also boost aim mode.
None of these work in shooter mode, only in Aim mode or Sniper mode (Shooter + Aim).

No idea what you're talking about, Aim mode works perfectly fine in Shooter Mode. I use it all the time.

Also a shooter mode user, because it's smoother in many ways and serves my own purposes in Ground combat better than the icon-clickfest RPG mode. But all things considered, things like this are a matter of personal preference; no need to belittle others for things such as those.

People don't use shooter mode? No wonder they think ground combat sucks.

Agreed, a little surprised that some people are so combative over this issue.

The game offers 2 ways to handle combat, just because someone else prefers a method different to yours doesn't mean they're wrong. It's just a matter of personal preference, I'm surprised it seems to mean so much to some people, it's not even that big of a deal.

Well, the one time RPG mode is better in my opinion is when an enemy is deliberately circling at point blank range (some PvPers) or the instance is too laggy for you to get a good shot.

That being said, we're straying off-topic, and the topic was 'what the hell did they do to the camera?!'

You need to reconfig thekeybind a little to make it like a normal shooter. I did and it worked just like CS. However, if the zoom out should be increased in order to have a better field of view. Atm it is too narrow. It's hard to see enemies in contrast to the rpg mode.

    People actually use shooter mode?

I remember back to the very first day I played this game, the day it went free to play. I accidentally entered shooter mode and the controls were so messed up and the interface was so slow that you could not even compare it to, say, a REAL first person shooter that it felt broken even then, and that was years ago. They did not break the shooter mode, it was broken upon its creation, it has never worked, even from day one. And those that use it, well, they are crippling themselves, fooling themselves by telling themselves that it is "okay".

    Blatantly false.

    1. Go on Tribble and take a look for yourself. Notice the difference between Holodeck shooter mode and Tribble shooter mode - if it's working as intended, then the intent needs to be revised.

    2. There are plenty of people who think otherwise, even in this thread. People who find RPG mode just as crippling as you find shooter mode. (I am one of them - although I'd probably manage to muddle through in RPG mode like I did in SWTOR, the fact is that this is a lot easier for some people to handle.)

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Without the shooter I most likely wouldn’t have played this game for more than four days.

Four years later I really hope they don’t mess it up.

I just tried the "new" shooter mode on New Romulus, and it's pretty bad. The targeting reticule does an outstanding job of obscuring potential targets, and in some cases it didn't even bother to fire the weapon for long periods of time. I'm already not a huge fan of ground combat in STO (because I like space combat better in principle), and that experience didn't make me want to spend more time on the ground. I bugged it.

Anya I am equally mystified that people would actually find shooter mode useful.

i actually wonder why people use RPG mode it just felt way to convoluted to me. While i use shooter mode it feels a little more natural to be being able to actually pick where things end up as well as shoot what i want to shoot never went back to RPG mode after the Crossfire update.

I use shooter mode for everything, I've got my key bindings all completely customized though. Takes me a couple of days to get it setup on a new character but once I get it right it makes my game experience really smooth, especially with interacting with objects or npc's. The new camera angle is definitely way to high. Since I like to run miniature alien characters they don't even show up on the screen most of the time as the targeting reticle hovers way up top on the screen.
