Are youkidding me here?
You release a game in the EU/UK and you decide to do maintenance when these people get home from school/work?
Well, at least now i definitely know i won't be buying a life time sub! Thanks for helping me make the right choice PWE!

But yeah the maintenance is on now... which again sucks for us here .
There would be, but that'd dip into the US peak hours, even though the US is underrepresented in the overall player base here.
It's about catering to ALL your customers, not just one side of the pond.
Blizzard is one of few exceptions in the mmorpg industry, since they actually care. After a lot of feedback from the betas etc, they split their server park into Europe and the US, and have separate maintenance windows.
This^^
Yes it is a bit unfair, but there will always be someone affected by maintenance. The time chosen is the quietest time of the server as stated numerous times.
That can turn into 3hrs, 4hrs, 5++hrs.
A regular maintenance usually last longer than 2hrs.
For updating with new content, it'll take much longer, in most cases.
Most people in Europe finish work at around 4pm. The UK is 1hr ahead of most of Europe. For most, school ends at 3pm here in Europe, which was 1hr 40min ago.
Hah, no not really. The European player base outnumbers the US player base by far. Meaning that at 4pm CET, it would be the most busy time on the server.
Heck, this game even broke sales records in the UK alone.
In the US, this game really isn't as popular as some people want you to believe.
"Player Base".
Yes, they are.
Not with travel time. And only if games were instantaneous log in/refine dilithium/log out events.
Travel time has absolutely nothing to do with this whatsoever, so i'm not sure where you're trying to go with that comment.
Numbers?

PC maintenance is every Thursday between 14:30 and 16:30 UTC, so I would imagine that since the console maintenance was posted to facebook today that console maintenance will take place on Tuesdays at this time.
Oh please..
You're telling me that i'm toxic? You tell me not to be toxic, yet you're as toxic in your reply as anyone i've ever seen so far..
You're just a hypocrite and a whiteknight.
If they had released the game in the US alone, there wouldn't be a problem, but they released it to Europe as well. They have to make it fair for both sides. We all pay money for their stuff, heck, we pay more for it here in Europe than what the US players pay for their cosmetics and whatnot.
Heck someone has to make a living to keep on feeding Cryptic's children
Perhaps an adjustment of the maintenance better suited for European players is advisable.
It is often said that the US player base is by far the largest, second only to the Germans, but perhaps with the introduction of the consoles this balance has shifted towards Europe.
1. That's shooting yourself in the foot (ie. basically shouting "yeah, I'm a raving loon. But so are you! (says the self-described loon who we have no reason to take as a greater authority)" You might want to focus less on pointless attitude and think more about what it is you're actually complaining about. It needs work.
2. In the North America there are people who, because of their work or class schedule, could have been playing during downtime. They had to wait. They (in the US) share the same national identity as Cryptic but low and behold they didn't get things entirely their own way. It's conceivable that Cryptic could schedule their downtime for 3am EST (to interfere only with those in the US working on a night shift rotation or Mountain Dew fueled power-binge) but they choose instead to run it during their normal business hours. What audacity!
Here's the basic reaction to this situation: we deal with minor inconveniences and don't demand that the world changes to accommodate what we have going on right now (because no one outside our immediate circle really cares.) Not everyone has had that life lesson but it's never too late it pick it up.

Yawns goes back to maintenance napping
It's quite possible that the large majority of console players is located outside the US. Time will have to tell that one.
They treat the PC playerbase (their current biggest playerbase) the same way - as do most MMO developers, eg. They patch during the home companies main network engineering team is in the office and on the clock from 8-5 PM PST (Cryptic is in San Jose California.)
And FYI - since the game is played worldwide, no matter when they patch, it's going to be 'prime playtime for someone.
PWE ARC Drone says: "Your STO forum community as you have known it is ended...Display names are irrelevant...Any further sense of community is irrelevant...Resistance is futile...You will be assimilated..."
Didn't you know? Senior management of PWE is sort of like the Sith who holds great power and pull strings from the shadows. Their influence on world governments would make Emperor Palpatine very proud (perhaps envious) since PWE's senior management can dictate all nations' tax rates
