There is one ship I always wanted to have, the Keldon class Cardassian cruiser.
i had assumed if I waited long enough, they'd introduce a Cardassian faction and the ship would be made available as one of the many Cardassian ships offered.
But now that I've seen it's a Lockbox only ship, I am understandably concerned that this means there will be no Cardassian faction.
I've already seen that two of the four playable races I wanted were not offered (they should have been made available ages ago!), the fourth was always a remote possibility.
But I'd hoped the third (Cardassian) would still be the most likely to be released.
Before anyone says it, a custom alien imitation is no substitute for Species Specific Traits, Cardassian BOFFs/DOFFs, Cardassian Ships and whatever else can only come with a real playable species/faction.
So, in conclusion, should we still expect a Cardassian faction?

Nope.
Long version:
Cryptic has said in the past that they would never put a faction's iconic ship in a lockbox if there were plans to make that faction. They admitted years ago that they shot themselves in the foot with the Galor. And with pretty much every Dominion ship in a lockbox, that rules out a Dominion faction as well. Releasing a faction with ships that were previously in a lockbox now would be a mistake because that would mean the people who won or bought the lockbox ships would now view it as a waste of resources when there's now a free version of said ship.

I don't see how a Cardassian faction is possible at this point. Especially considering the position of the Cardassian fleet (reduced to nothing more than a Self Defense Force by treaty). Who are their enemies? How do you make it NOT a carbon copy of the Romulan experience?

We're never getting more than mini-factions from now on. Even Romulan half-factions are too expensive and shared endgame content makes too much business sense.
Personally I detest the idea that the Cardassian are even thought of as viable for full faction status, as per reason above. The Dominion is the only current available option......
and no, the Borg aren't an option. Flying around in a cube would be too much messing around having to zoom right out, and people would freak if it didn't have 10/10 weapons and 5 million HP and didn't let you steal (assimilate) player's ships in PvP.
Too much want and take from players. Cryptic needs to refocus, get tough and put their foot down!
Most likely, no. And personally, gods I hope not...
That said, the new cardi ship in the box for consoles means you'll likely get access to that ship via a lockbox or promo event on pc later.
No
I can't afford to be choosy at this point, even if they have only a tutorial before saying, join Starfleet or KDF, it will do.
And please, no mandatory undismissable BOFF this time!
*cough* Tovan Skev *cough*
Dominion was actually my fourth option, because I wanted to have a playable Jem'Hadar and a Vorta Science BOFF, plus the Jem'Hadar ships. The Dominion Dreadnaught Carrier is the Dominion vessel I have always wanted.
But if they couldn't even make the primary DS9 antagonist faction, I didn't want to get my hopes up for the secondary antagonist faction.
As regards endgame, I find that of little value now.
Doing the same content 4 times over (the number of primary characters I have) lost it's appeal about two releases ago.
I play it once on one character only to experience the story and that's it.
This temporal operative release failed to interest me in the least.
I have little interest in anything from the TOS era (besides Hortas, I like them).
So I didn't create a new character to play that content.
From my point of view, it was just wasted Development time that could have been dedicated to either the Cardassian or Dominion factions.

Its like this the keldon was the only ship that gave us a slight hope for a cardi faction now its been boxed that in itself is the final nail in the coffin for the cardi faction, only thing of cards we could hope for is a playable race like the caits and ferasans and the like.
This is why Cryptic should just give up on the idea of new factions. TOS characters were a bit of an embarrassment, especially now that the event is over.
If Cryptic cannot give a new faction the time and experience like the Romulan's got, then just leave well alone and concentrate on the three they already have.
Replying to the bold part. How? I have a Galor and once they decide to let everyone have the new lockbox I'll be getting a Keldon class for the same character. That character being my Klingon aligned Cardassian character. IF ever introduce a new faction (I don't count the 23rd century Feds, they were just a gimmick) I doubt it'll be a half-faction like the Romulan faction was. I wouldn't consider the money put into acquiring both ships as a waste as they are on a character that I couldn't have even if they made a Cardassian faction. I wouldn't remake him for 2 reasons. Reason 1 is that the story just wouldn't be the same. Reason 2 is that I've invested a bunch of time into him and by remaking him, I've lost that time, I've lost all the effort that went into tier 5 in the reputations, I've lost all the items he's acquired from sources no longer available (from the MU event and Crystalline Entity event). Same goes for the Romulan character I made many years ago before LoR was a thought in the devs minds. He's a Romulan that joined the Federation. His story just wouldn't be the same if I remade him as a Fed-Allied Romulan character with LoR. I WISH I could get him some Romulan ships (not counting the adapted ship that's a universal) to use but I can't. I'm still happy with him and enjoy playing him from time to time.
Cardassian/Dominion race as an alien option = yes
Cardassian/Dominion race as a playable stand alone race = maybe, as a zen store unlock.
What I think he means is that now that the event is over, there really is no point to making a TOS character. It's a whole 10 levels that can be completed in a matter of an hour. After that there is no benefit or anything unique to making a TOS character. Correct me if I'm wrong.
You're reasonable. Most people on these forums are not.
If they released a Cardi faction, with their two iconic ships having already been in lockboxes... It would be Delta Rising level rage all over again over the "ripoff", calls for refunds, and general chaos and ranting over double dipping and anything else the ragers can think of to rail agianst Cryptic for doing something in the game.

Perhaps I am. I just don't see the complaint, but I do understand why it would happen. I was actually the reverse, I was annoyed that we might never get a Kheldon or T6 Cardassian ship and my Cardie would be trapped in a T5 ship forever.
As I said, for a whole of an hour. Really, I didn't see them as anything special. Now that the event is over, the only reason I can see myself making another TOS character is if I want to acquire some of the TOS era weapons or ship equipment.
but what I want more than playable Dominion is the ability to explore the Gamma Quadrant.
My character Tsin'xing
Actually... you can replay any mission that takes place in the 23rd Century for a chance at TOS gear dropping as loot. Not as effective as a mission reward, but they are in the loot table.

But that requires a faction, since a playable race on it's own cannot be a Liberated Borg of their species.
Also, you need the faction for the Cardassian BOFFs as well.
What would it achieve to be just a Cardassian on their own?
Congratulations, you are a Cardassian with a Starfleet crew flying Starfleet ships.
Sorry, your species specific ships (all two of them!) are locked away in a gamblebox, so you can't have them.
While not an obsessive lockbox opener, I am using my lifer stipend to open them occasionally.
I'm currently targeting the Xindi Aquatic Dreadnaught and I still haven't gotten that one!
After that, I'm moving onto the Tholian Tarantula and then if those two unlikely targets are met, the Keldon.
I've given up hope of ever acquiring the Voth Bulwark, but as my Voth specific captain's species (Hirogen, species 2 on my priority list) was removed from consideration, I don't think it matters anymore.
No captain=no ship box unpacking.
And I imagine the complaints about the Cardassian ships are nothing to what we'd hear if the Jem'Hadar bugship was made freely available!
Basically, at the point, I'd say the Cardassian and Dominion factions are the only pratical ways to obtain the Galor, Keldon and bugship vessels.
I would have thought the Dominon Faction is the best way to explore the Gamma Quadrant.
After all, they have to start there don't they?
So they'd have to come up with a hubworld, planets specifically for the Gamma Quadrant just to accommodate the basic needs of a Dominion faction.
Plus, I'd be really miffed if we got to explore the Gamma Quadrant and no playable Gamma Quadrant species were included!
It would be Delta Rising all over again!
Numbers 1-2 on my playable species wishlist are Delta Quadrant species.

Well, if Cryptic gave the Liberated Borg the same options as the alien generator, tgen it would be possible to get a Cardassian look...
By that logic, there is no point to making a Starfleet, KDF, or Romulan Republic character. Just wait until the next Recruitment event starts. TOS Starfleet just means that there is another starting point for players that don't care about Recruitment events and just want to create a new character to play with.
So no. Making a playing a Romulan character is still something that's useful. And playing base, well, if you don't play base then you aren't playing the game.
From my point of view developing Cardis would be a complete waste of developer time and effort. Dominion, if done right could be cool, but cryptic won't do it right so again, wasted effort. Keep in mind, when yer all 'this would be so cool' there are at least as many people that thinks its as waste of time. I enjoyed AoY, it was too damned brief and lacked TOS Rom/Klinks, but what was there is really cool. You hate it, now we flip it around, you want spoonheads, I think that would be a ridiculous waste of time and would likely hate it(since I hate the race and their ships).
But the problem remains... The Galor and Keldon are in lockboxes. I doubt Cryptic is going to do anything that would jeopardize lockbox key sales.
The only option I can see them doing now is allow them as an unlockable race for Fed and KDF purchased through the C-store.
