I fully expect with the increase in threads like this for the price to bottom out and the market for this "silly" ship to crash. People need to scramble now and sell em while they have em before they get hosed by the lack of popularity that this tragic anachronism represents.
I kind of agree with you on the promo not being as successful as previously imagined, but the price on the ship won't drop. Why? Because the demand is still there, people WANT the ship, they just aren't willing to gamble for it. There will be a lot of people looking to buy for EC so demand and price should stay high since only a small number of people appear to be actually opening packs. I think a limited supply will keep the price right near that 1Billion mark. They are extremely hard to get right now, and they'll only become more rare once the promo ends.
I can't imagine any scenario where the EC value of the ship will bottom out.
Here it is the 31st and the T6 TOS ships still aren't on the exchange yet.
Anyone know the current asking price?
How does this compare to previous ships after the first week?
1. I personally don't expect the 23c Connie to be listed on the exchange [with its 750m EC cap], all the threads discouraging people to open R&D boxes might have played a part. Only those with large amounts of disposable income or vast EC reserves seem to be buying and opening the boxes and with the low drop rate you would need a larger cross-section of players opening boxes for there to be a surplus which would then be sold on exchange. Otherwise they can make more in the Trade channels.
2. The 23c Connie is unlike any other promotional ship ever offered, it is litteraly the late-game playable starship that started a 50 year franchise. If you grew up on TOS or enjoyed it you would have a natural connection to the ship and a desire to obtain it.
Personally i would love to have one but only as an account unlock, I have too many alts to decide which was the "Chosen One" who received the ship. So i settle for past event ships or the c-store ships that I have acquired and they work fine. 23c Connie is a desire but never a need.
I traded 910mil credits for one the other day, unfortunately I want 4 more for my alts.
Interesting, those ships are basically around for a week now but prices keep sticking to ~0,9b. Game wide announcements are rare and fairly behind current lockbox winnings.
Are too few peeps willing to open those promo packs?

I think maybe "too few" are opening them with the intent of selling the contents to other people not willing to take the risk.
I'm still very on the fence what to do with mine, but I believe the price will go UP, not down, after the promo ends, so I'm in no rush to make a decision.

Given the few things one can witness the current promo seems not to be very successful at all for cryptic. This would make a rerun unlikely and ensure rising prices.
… on the other hand I could imagine some kind of infinity promo box in the long run. Same we got for lock boxes. That could resupply the market.

Huh?
The promo had been madness so far!
I'm not sure what is going on to be honest. The price is basically unchanged a week later.
But is it the case that demand is still higher than supply (i.e. all offered packs are selling for the 900-1000 million asking price). If so, I would expect the price to rise and its not (but see my comment below).
Or is it the case that those who have them aren't selling currently, but still refusing to lower the price in the hope that it will go higher still.
I don't see many people flying these. Normally I almost immediately see the latest lockbox and promo ships flying the day of release. Of course the Connie is tiny, and thus not easy to see at any distance. Are people hoarding them for later sale?
It's a pity that the Exchange has a 750 million cap, that moved this entire market off into the 'black' where it can't be viewed objectively. This may be hurting buyers (because there is effectively no market competition other than word of mouth) or it may be hurting sellers (because there's little pressure for demand to cause raising prices).
Compared to most of you playing, I'm an old man. At nearly 57 I was a kid when TOS was aired originally, but became a devoted fan of Star Trek quickly and embraced every spinoff and movie. I always loved the original Constitution ship, but hell, I quickly saw it as limited by the special effects for TV of the day.
I bought the T1 Connie in my first month of playing the game and kept it around since. That's over 5 years ago. I play it for it's nostalgia and don't miss at all that I can't play it in STFs. They happen so fast with so much action that you can't really enjoy a ship anyway.
I thought when the T6 version was announced that it would reach a couple hundred million EC because of its redundancy. Same ship with higher stats. I wondered if Cryptic would put the already built 23rd Century bridge on it and avoid the 2,000 ZEN charge for it. I thought that might make it worth it.
When it didn't show up on the Exchange I instead saved to buy the Kelvin ships. I don't spend dollars on the game anymore. Did in the first year for some ship, but then realized that just about anything could be earned in the game, and yes, it is a game. Part of the fun for me was earning the Zen or EC to buy stuff. My luck with lockboxes is no better than anyone's, and you rarely win anything opening only 40-50 boxes per season. Some lobi is fun to use, so my lifetime lockbox use is probably under 150, but always bought with Dilithium converted to ZEN or EC on the exchange.
I've had pretty good success with my approach, and fun. I earned the Kelvin Connie in a weekend and the Dreadnaught the following weekend. The T6 Connie lockbox was announced, and I decided to complete my Tholian shipset, instead buying the Tarantula for a measly 120 mil.
I was slow to realize the sale of the promo Connie had gone offline because of its price. I still have my T1, my Kelvin ships, and nearly every ship in the game. I really find it silly that anyone would spend 1 billion EC for playable stats on an existing ship design, but oh well.
Honestly, I agree with the criticism of Cryptic. They took the original ship that launched a massive franchise, tweaked some settings in its stats, and put it out there in such a way that maybe 1% of the players of this game can realistically get and play. I also agree that it's pretty silly that you'd see that ship competing in battle with ships hundreds of years more advanced.
Sure it's a money maker, but there are some things that shouldn't be about money.
I also agree that it's pretty silly that you'd see that ship competing in battle with ships hundreds of years more advanced.
All the ships do that. I recall wrecking opposing ships by the dozens from hundreds of years in advance of my Tactical Command Battlercruiser. And having nearly an equal 'challenge' from 23rd century D7s during other time travel adventures.
Face it, technology in STO is stagnant from the 22nd century until the 31st. All that changes is the fluff. This is STO, not a real world.
I also agree that it's pretty silly that you'd see that ship competing in battle with ships hundreds of years more advanced.
The server is called Holodeck. That's only half a joke.
The Constellation, a ship shown on screen as being too old to be effective, can be flown at T5U
The Kelvin Timeline Constitution is just as old.
I can fly a T6 Daedalus
I can fly a T6 Xindi ship
I can fly a T5 D'Kyr
I can fly a T6 T'Varo
The list of things that breaks the so-called logic you are espousing is massive. The only real conclusion we can draw is that the logic of age doesn't exist in Star Trek Online. The rule you are putting forth doesn't exist. And has never existed. It's time to let that go. Because this ship isn't the straw that broke that camel's back.
My T6 Daedalus is an absolute BEAST. It melts anything and everything in its path. There are threads out there about how OP EPG is right now and the T6 Deedz can abuse that statistic and the temporal powers and can really just burn a hole in time and space.
But people are still on about the much more recent Constitution class being competitive?
It's silly.
And if you want to respond to the concept of a T6 Daedalus with something along the lines of "But it's actually a modern ship ..." or "But it's just a Nautilus in disguise ..." or any other mental gymnastics that underscore the plot of HOW I can fly a T6 Daedalus ... then you need to apply all of that same set of plot and excuses to a T6 Constitution.
TLDR: The T6 Constitution is a-OK being competitive end-game because it fits in with all of the other hundreds of year old ships this game has sold to the playerbase.

Why in the world is there an Exchange Cap?
