I am mostly waiting for a new ship release right now. It feels like t has been forever. Of course, it's probably all in the AOY pack and it might not be all that commercially succesful to release new ships so soon after a big pack. But still. I want something new, like a Nova, Sovereign, Vor'cha, AOY KDF/RR models becoming playable, Dyson Destroyers, Vesta... Whatever. Something.
And I can't even read that leaks website anymore to look forward to something.

I see a few AOY running around. Even today during my limited amount of playing. Would I like to see more original missions like they did with LOR. But for what it was I liked it. I went from not wanting to play with mine much after Lv10, and now she is Lv30.
If I had to guess, and if the Delta recruitment as well as my own behaviour and that of a lot of my fleet and channel mates are indicators, a lot of those AOY characters are going to be disappearing when the ultimate account unlocks have been reached. Commendation, Reputation, Specialization and Admiralty, which do have good rewards, take a bit more time to unlock compared to what we had last time, so we'll probably see AOY recruits for a longer period of time than Deltas until they're retired.
What seemed a bit strange to me was the decision to add temporal marks and tokens to the "old" mirror space battlezone. It was the first time I can remember that any old and existing content made newly released queued events completely redundant right from the start.
That could be very true. I rarely see a Delta running around. After they completed the specials they came with. However I'm still working on mine unlocking new stuff. Same goes with my AOY.
However the AOY does have more unique things about them. Like the beam out effect and couple other stuff. So that may make them last a while longer. That alone made me decide to keep going with mine. As for RPing it was perfect.

They just did 15 ships in 4 distinct styles!
If that didn't give you a full stomach for new ships for a little while, nothing will. Ever.

Which is good news for Cryptic! They can still sell ships.
At least to me.

This is really annoying. People made it a sport to get the leaking sites to shut down and it really blows. Knowing what content we can expect a few weeks in advance is a good thing, makes you stock up and prepare to buy something. Cryptic's "tomorrow there's going to be a new ship" policy is one of the things that makes me angry.

No way I am getting rid of a TOS Character after all unlocks unlocked. Too much invested. That Character is one of my top three now. I could never delete a character anyway. How can you look a Character in the eye that has been through thick and thin for you and tell them they are going to the Solyent Green tanks?
Still the entire Iconian Arc to go through for my TOS. I believe I also have one replay of 'Step Between the Stars' to also do.
Have no problem playing some of these Missions over again with that new Character. Been a bit of time since my Deltas went through them.

Now this, this is a guy with style! And panache as well. I like the way you think. I think the same way.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
The thing is, we've all spent the last five-ish weeks feverishly levelling, building, playing, speccing and grinding new toons. Not sure about anyone else but I'm feeling a good deal of fatigue at the moment, so I'm taking a few days off to recharge.
Not all of us.
Don't get me wrong, I did make an AoY character and leveled through all of the AoY content to get to the 25th century. Once there I got to lvl 11 to open up the DOff system and then that AoY toon went to Risa where they ran that content until the summer event ended. They then went back to Starfleet Academy and have been sitting there waiting to be called back into service.
And just so you can see how little I've actually played my AoY character, I created it on the day after AoY went live, got to 11 that very day since there wasn't much to do to get there and they haven't gotten a lick of XP since. And that won't change any time soon.
With prior commitments to other characters, it'll likely be sometime early next year before I get around to playing my single AoY character. And a lot of that will be due to the winter event coming up again and me not doing anything else but run winter event content until it ends.
The summer and winter events for me are times to cut back on the amount of time I play STO. Run the daily mission to get the special currency to earn the ship. Do some of the little side things, like the hoverboard race and hunt Horgans to get tags/eggs to raise pets to turn into marks. For the winter event it'll be even less time since all I'll be doing is the daily mission and DOffing, then likely logging for the day. I've never been able to complete the winter PvP race without getting DQ'd so I don't even bother. The Snorg and the other winter invasion thing they introduced last year are kind of boring so I won't be bothering with those either.
These "lulls" are usually when I'm most active and playing, it's usually during BIG events that I cut back my play time. I log in every day, I just do so for less time during those events.

Noticed the member lock (as in only member of said fleet can view content) as well. It's a pity since the leak site was a more reliable source of info than cryptic/pwe.

Will not delete the AoY character either. I always make it a point to create a completely unique character with its own unique style. Fed-Eng with space focus, Fed Rom Science etc.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Having Capt. Kevin Timeline (and he is a captain, with a starship of his very own and everything - I don't know why people keep calling him "admiral") running about, in his TOS uniform and TOS-styled ship wielding an old-fashioned-looking Type II phaser, has been so much fun for me I didn't even care about having to do the Nimbus III missions and "Of Bajor" again.
I'm leveling a second AoY now, mostly for the Dil bonuses - he just got his first T5 ship, so of course it's a Ranger-class battle cruiser. When he goes to DS9, I think I'll switch back to Kevin for a while and complete the Breen arc.
In short, if you haven't seen an AoY toon running around, it's because you haven't been anywhere near me.
I plan to slowly level up my main AoY character throughout the year. I finished with all the Nakhul nodes, so I really don't need much. I made another AoY just to hangout in the 23 Century. Most of my Fed/TOS alts end up becoming Contraband suppliers. I tend to keep on my mains after event like this. It will be interesting to see what comes next.

I've never deleted a character, and I'm not starting now. I am quite enjoying my AoY character.
The only one I deleted was my AOY, but I re rolled them and now they are Lv32. I did that cause of the 23c stuff I didn't buy from the vendors before I left the 23c.

'Lack of Content'.....'Only 6 missions'......Hmmm, think I'm gonna do my 'Ya wrong' dance here!
OP, there's not a lull, it's only been what, 5 weeks since AoY launched. With 11 missions, new STF's etc, that's not lack of. That's more than a standard season's release! To be honest I prefer the new episode or 2 per month approach, but hey, you got spoiled, and as such are immediately shouting that it's not enough! Shame of Cryptic for not dropping everything to pander to your requests and shame on them for opening STO up to the console market too!
Sheeeesh!

This game is what you make of it. In my experience there's always something to do in the game; you just have to go out there and find it. And don't be afraid to ask questions. You never know who you might meet out there (for better or for worse! haha). And if you no longer enjoy it, do something else. Pretty simple, really.
Oh man some players seem to be really good. I didn’t even manage to complete the new reputation on my toons yet, not to mention all the tasks of my AoY recruit.
Personally I would not mind to have a few weeks without any event but knowing cryptic the date for the next do-the-same-map-14-times-event is already set. With threads like these they basically have no other choice…

Yeah, actual content for AoY expansion was a bit light, but Cryptic also needed to create new art and sound assets to give STO that TOS feel for the new missions. I am sure if Cryptic decided to charge for expansions then there would have been more content. However, since STO is a F2P game, I would say that it is understandable that content would be light.
Sure Cryptic gets some money from people purchasing ships and other things from the C-Store, but a lot of people also grind Dil to get those ships. Thus, those players are reliant on other players that actually purchased Zen with real money and place them on the Dil Exchange. That is opposed to charging cash for the expansion itself for anyone what wants to play the expansion.
Since the AoY Expansion was free and there are still things in the game that I need to focus on, then it is not a big deal that the content was rather light. If I had to pay for the AoY Expansion, then naturally my expectations with regards to the content would be much higher.
'Lack of Content'.....'Only 6 missions'......Hmmm, think I'm gonna do my 'Ya wrong' dance here!
6 missions hastily done do not constitute an expansion. Now if there are 6 new FEs with 6 missions in each thats a different story.
You must be new around here since the past few years Cryptic has done its very least to keep players motivated in STO. This was NOT an expansion and yes it is boring already...if memory serves me well and IMHO this was worst than even DR...at least there was much more to keep players active there with the zombie battlezone, recruiting event, FEs and great ship boxes. My fleet has gone from 30-35 actives to about 2-5 per day....same as pre AOY already. Not a great metrics but at least useful to me

I really wonder why should Cryptic listen to people that insult their work?
The missions might be not enough to satisfy our expectations from an expansion, but they weren't "hastily done". There was a lot of attention to detail on those missions. Just think of something beautiful as the Galandon Core map!

The issue here is that Cryptic pushed AoY during an event, which many players were forced to rush through the content so that they could either return to the event or have their characters benefit from the event. Once everyone went through the content in a week, loop grinding began, and thus, we have the boredom that exists today. I think Cryptic should have extended the Summer event to cover the entire AoY event, so that there wouldn't need to rush through all the new contents in a short period of time. This is something the Devs and Marketing need to re-evaluate if they want to see less of a drop at the end of the events.
Given that our characters end up being similar to the standard Federation faction, I think it's kinda logical that we didn't get many separate episodes like during LOR.
There's not much point in creating mulitple faction-unique episodes arc if their background won't make much difference in the end.
Personally, I hope they do away with the faction thing entirely. Just remove the restrictions, and have all the current species as playable species of the same faction. We're supposed to form an alliance after all so there's really no reason to keep separate factions. Instead, turn them all into one big faction with different species. Some species like the Klingons would then have access to different stories but ultimately there would be no big difference.
This would also make it possible to create new playable species without a need to create an entirely different faction. Just a few special episodes to explain the background of the character and how they ended up serving the Alliance. We could have more different species then, even some exotic ones like the Undine, Voth and Heralds and they could focus entirely on creating different experiences at the species, rather than the faction level.
Of course the species would have to be really different, and not just 23rd century versions of already playable ones. I hope that AoY sets the stage for future additions: a handful of episodes to explain why you are in the Alliance, and then you get access to the cross-faction content (which would have to be lowered in level of course, but this is another advantage as the latest episode arcs are generally more worth it to play than some of the earliest ones).
The factions are split early on so there it makes sense, but I do agree that by lvl60+ it makes no difference. I just don't know how they would handle it in the social areas. Make us invisible to anyone <60 in social areas? Otherwise you end up with Klingons running around on ESD....Although, that also means Orion females running around on ESD as well..
